A prayer request for all children

Dear God we pray for all children, Amen.

We lift up all children to You, Father, with hearts full of love and concern. Your Word tells us in Matthew 19:14, "But Jesus said, 'Allow the little children, and don’t forbid them to come to me; for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to ones like these.'" Lord, we ask that You draw every child to Yourself, that they may know Your love, protection, and purpose for their lives.

We pray for the safety of children around the world, that You would shield them from harm, abuse, neglect, and the snares of the enemy. Guard their hearts and minds, and surround them with godly influences, parents, teachers, and mentors who will guide them in Your ways. Proverbs 22:6 reminds us, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

Lord, we also pray for children who are lost, confused, or far from You. Soften their hearts to receive the gospel and open their eyes to the truth of Your Word. May they grow in wisdom and stature, as Jesus did (Luke 2:52), and come to know Him as their Savior and Lord.

We rebuke the forces of darkness that seek to steal, kill, and destroy the innocence and future of children. In the name of Jesus, we declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We stand against the lies of the enemy that would lead them astray, and we proclaim Your truth over their lives.

For those children who do not yet know You, we ask that You reveal Yourself to them in powerful ways. Let them experience Your love through the body of Christ, and may they come to salvation early in life. We pray that they would grow up to be men and women of God, strong in faith and bold in their witness for You.

Father, we also lift up the parents and caregivers of these children. Give them wisdom, patience, and strength to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). Provide for their needs, both physical and spiritual, and help them to model Christ-like love and discipline.

Lord, we know that children are a heritage from You (Psalm 127:3), and we commit them into Your hands. May Your will be done in their lives, and may they grow to fulfill the purposes You have for them. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We love how this prayer for all children starts with the simple, open heart of "Dear God." It’s a beautiful reminder that we enter the kingdom like little ones, trusting and ready to receive.

When we lift all children before God, we’re also reminded that He invites us to carry the blessing further. In Scripture, the blessing wasn’t just a general wish, it was deeply personal. Parents and loved ones would speak value over a child, picturing a hopeful future, and making an active commitment to their wellbeing. So while we pray for every child, we might also ask: is there one child God is placing on our heart this week, a niece, a neighbor, a foster child in our community, a student we volunteer with, whom we could bless in a more specific, spoken way? Not just praying for them in private, but looking them in the eye and telling them something we see in them that God values and can use. That might be the very thing God uses to anchor them in His love through this season.

Even a simple, genuine word can carry far more weight than we know, especially for children who may not hear it anywhere else.

Lord Jesus, we join this heartfelt prayer and ask you to watch over every child. For those who feel unseen, give them the steady knowledge that you notice them. For those who are hungry, hurting, or afraid, raise up helpers and healers around them. And help us to not just offer a general prayer but to be people who speak real blessing and tangible care into the life of at least one child. In your name we pray, Amen.

Your prayer for the little ones is a sweet savour, yet let it not be a mere breath of words. True prayer must be fired with faith, for without faith it is impossible to please Him. The least faith in Jesus is true faith, a precious gift of God, and a grain of mustard seed can work wonders; but oh, let us not rest in little faith when strong faith brings such glory to our Father! When we treat Him as a Father with a childlike confidence, He is delighted, and the windows of heaven are thrown open.

Consider: if you had more faith, would not more children be brought to the Saviour from your very home and from the Sunday school? Unbelief dishonours God and breeds disobedience in the young, but strong faith treats Him as a faithful Father who hears and answers. All things are possible to him that believeth, yes, the conversion of multitudes of children, the quelling of every fiery dart the Wicked One hurls at their tender souls.

But let your faith be no fruitless thing, a mere creed that leaves the life untouched. Rahab’s faith sanctified her; true faith always produces holy works. So, while you pray, teach them, guide them with principles of self-denial and humility, avoid every evil path, and walk yourself in Christ Jesus the Lord. Take the shield of faith, and when you thus pray and thus live, you shall see the salvation of God among the children. Faith laughs at impossibility, and your petition shall not return void.

A prayer for all children is good, but it must be joined to action and right understanding. You ask God to bless them, yet do you not see the nets the devil spreads for their souls at every age? He is the ruler of this world, meaning he rules over those who give themselves to him, over the darkness of evil deeds. His desire is to scatter, not to gather. Do not merely pray, then, but fight.

Consider that the evil spirits, and the men doing the devil's works, are his goods, and Christ came to drive away all error and make his arts useless. A child is not born a child of the devil, but becomes one by doing his lusts, by envy and anger and the love of vain things. The prayer of the mouth must become the labor of the household. You would have God work special miracles for your children, yet do you not see from the Apostle that handkerchiefs and aprons from a holy body drove out diseases and demons? How much more shall your own life, made holy, touch your child. Do not let the vagabond spirit of this age, which trades in the Name for profit and show, deceive you. The true way is not a thing indifferent; swearing, wrath, and covetousness are its offspring, and they poison the young root.

Begin, then, the practice of virtue in your own life for their sake. Portion out the work. In this month, master unjust anger before them. In the next, school yourself in forbearance. Let them see you wrestle and fight with malicious demons, not with the sword, but with the will. This is a greater victory than any pagan general ever won. For when the fishermen, simple men, conquered the whole world of devilish error, they did it not by slaying their adversaries, but by converting and reforming them. You who pray, go and do likewise. Let Christ be formed in you, and you will know a joy greater than any monarch's crown when you see your children's souls make progress. Then your prayer will not be a bare word, but a bold speech in the presence of God, and your children, drawn by the power of a lived faith, will hear the word and be healed.

What a beautiful and necessary prayer. When you ask the Lord to watch over all children, you are echoing the tender heart of Jesus, who set a little child in the midst of his disciples and taught them that greatness in the kingdom belongs to such as these. He did not point to the strong or the ambitious, but to a child, so utterly dependent and trusting. That alone shows us how precious children are to God and how fiercely he guards the simple faith he plants in their hearts.

That faith can be so easily bruised. How terrible it is when an adult, whether through neglect, harsh words, or deliberate unbelief, tries to tear down what the Spirit has begun in a child. The Lord reserves some of his strongest warnings for those who cause a little one to stumble. A child’s trust in Jesus is not something to be outgrown or dissected by a cynical mind. It is a gift. And part of our prayer for all children must be that their faith would be protected, nurtured, and allowed to flourish as they are taught the Scriptures from the earliest age. All Scripture is breathed out by God, and there is no substitute for planting its truth in a young heart. A child who grows up knowing the sacred writings has a foundation that no emotional high or worldly philosophy can shake.

Yet we also know we live in perilous times, when natural affection is growing cold. The news is full of stories that break the heart: children abused, neglected, or treated as commodities. That is exactly why your prayer matters. We are asking God to intervene where human love has failed, to be a shield over the vulnerable, and to raise up men and women who will train children with patience and loving discipline. Training a child is not merely keeping him happy; it is a careful, consistent work of shaping his will, much like teaching him to walk. There will be stumbles. But a wise parent or guardian does not panic when a child falls. He encourages, steadies, and helps the child try again, always pointing him toward the Lord.

We also remember that a child’s eternal safety is far more important than his physical comfort. David, after pleading for his dying son, astonished his servants by rising up and eating once the child was gone. He understood, with a confidence that still speaks to us, that the child was in the Lord’s presence and that one day he would go to him. That is our hope for every child who departs this life in innocence. Because of Jesus, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. This does not lessen the tragedy of suffering, but it anchors our grief in a solid promise.

So when you pray for all children, you are standing in a long line of believers who have known the Lord from childhood, who have tasted his goodness early, and who have found that no pleasure this world offers can compare. Emotional thrills, entertainment, even the temporary satisfaction of a meal or a win at a game, all these fade and leave the soul thirsty again. But living water is given freely to the childlike heart. May that water be poured out on this generation, and may every child hear the call of the Savior who still says, “Let the little children come to me.”

With you, I pray: Father, for every child born and yet to be born, we ask your mercy and protection. Give them a heart to know you and a safe place to learn your ways. Deliver them from evil, and raise up a people who will receive them in your name. And we thank you for the glorious day when your Son returns and every tongue confesses that he is Lord, wiping away every tear and making all things new. Amen.
