Glorious Sabbath Day People of God:
"A CLOAK AND A DREAM"
As I was preparing to share the second part of my "Family Honor" entry last week, the Holy Spirit imparted this truth, which aligns with the theme of family honor.
Imagine if they had approached ### as if he needed to repent and apologize to them for speaking prophecy.
When King David recounted this story, it became clearer as to whom God was referring when He issued the warning, saying "Touch not Mine anointed and do My prophets no harm." That proclamation was not exclusive to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; it also extended to their descendants (all who are indwelled with His Spirit, Promise, and Purpose). In this instance, the text points to ###, Jacob's son. Long before Jesus stepped onto the world stage, God raised ### up from among his family to serve as a prophet. Wrapped in the cloak of covenant, God gave ### a dream and an assignment. Through Christ, God continues to lift prophets from among their own families for His purpose.
Because ### was favored by both his earthly and heavenly fathers, rather than celebrate his calling, his brothers enviously plotted against him. His vision was viewed as self-exaltation by his own father. Again, not much has changed in this generation. How weak that thousands of years later, in "The land of the free and the home of the brave," an elder woman of God faces a similar response because of a despised prophecy.
"Psalm 105:15-23, NIV
¹⁵ “Do not touch my anointed ones;
do my prophets no harm.”
¹⁶ He called down famine on the land
and destroyed all their supplies of food;
¹⁷ and He sent a man before them—
###, sold as a slave.
¹⁸ They bruised his feet with shackles,
his neck was put in irons,
¹⁹ till what he foretold came to pass,
till the Word of the Lord proved him true.
²⁰ The king sent and released him,
the ruler of peoples set him free.
²¹ He made him master of his household,
ruler over all he possessed,
²² to instruct his princes as he pleased
and teach his elders wisdom.
²³ Then Israel entered Egypt;
Jacob resided as a foreigner in the land of Ham."
Man's jezebel spirit seeks to force his own will over God’s plan by trying to control. In like spirit, greed and misinterpretation of the scripture has induced my family to bombard my eyes with what they want me to see daily. Such behavior not only sneaks to touch God's anointed, but also says that God's revelations to me are inaccurate. Just because God is silent while you carry out your schemes doesn't mean He will allow you to prosper in them. Even David, whom God called a man after His own heart – own heart deceived him. God determines what is seen through His vessel's eyes.
One of the most intriguing aspects of ###'s story is that God's response to his family's foolishness was food related – famine in the land. God doesn't send famine upon the famished any more than He sends drought to a desert. What lesson would that teach? Famine is typically impugned in places where arrogance and complacency are present due to abundance.
The most powerful scriptural comparative between my assignment and ###'s story is depicted in the process of reconciliation. His brothers' efforts to thwart God’s plan prospered their family nothing; but, rather led to Canaan's ruin and was undoubtedly crucial in bringing curse upon an entire region. It was only after making amends with ### that mercy was extended to them. They apologized to ### and were required to restore his father and younger brother to him. This negotiation required that they leave their gift at the altar, metaphorically speaking. They left their brother ### behind as assurance that they would return.
Too often, unfortunately, I've sat in on sermons in this city that twist scripture. Recently, I heard a minister teach Matthew 5:23-24 like this: "Leave your offering at the table and go and forgive your brethren..." That's inaccurate because it implies that the fault lies with the other person. Forgiveness is indeed a precious blessing to all. However, there's a part missing. When you are the wrongdoer, that perspective turns into misleading teaching. Jesus taught His disciples as follows: Luke 24:47 CSB ⁴⁷and REPENTANCE for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem. It was only upon the completion of the repentance process that ###'s family and nation were spared from the certain death of famine. Imagine if they had approached ### as though he needed to repent or apologize to them for speaking prophecy. Indeed the burden was on ###'s family. Moreover, the prophecy came to pass.
Why would I need to lie to my hometown? As I have tried to explain before, I am not a fortune teller, I am a prophetess: I speak according to scripture. Never would I lie on God. Yet, as the church (family) stands by watching and even endorsing, I am harassed and punished for refusing to repent for speaking words of prophecy that have come to pass over the years:
Lamentations 3:37, CSB Who can speak and have it happen if the Lord has not decreed it?
As in times past, I can only deliver the message. There has been neither repentance nor reconciliation, only defiance. The prophecy stands. "Set your house in order." Joel 2:13, CSB (i.e. genuine repentance).
Note: ### did not serve in his own hometown, he served where he was honored and exalted — ###; which ultimately benefited his hometown and the whole region. This is why you don't obstruct God's ministries: you could be blocking your own rewards as well as those of others'.
