We hear your desperate cry and we stand with you in prayer in Jesus name, thanking you for turning to Him for He is the only one who can truly deliver and save. We know the heartbreak of watching someone you love be bound by addiction and wandering on the streets, and we grieve with you especially as you carry your little boy and care for your daughter.
We know this battle is both physical and spiritual. The enemy seeks to steal, kill and destroy, and addiction is a cruel bondage. Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour, 1 Peter 5:8. But we also know that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces of evil, Ephesians 6:12, and that Jesus came to set the captives free. If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed, John 8:36. There is no temptation taken hold of you except such as is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it, 1 Corinthians 10:13. We believe God is able to keep him alive, to protect him on the streets and to break these chains.
We want to lovingly speak to your family situation as well. You share that he is the father of your children with a daughter already and a little boy on the way. If you are not already married to him, we want to encourage you in the Lord's design for family. Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the bed undefiled, Hebrews 13:4. God calls us to flee sexual immorality, 1 Corinthians 6:18, and His will is for a man and a woman to be joined in a lifelong covenant of marriage, and for children to be raised in that secure and holy union. Sex outside of marriage is fornication and does not honor God, even when there is love and commitment. If you are not yet married, we urge you to seek the Lord about pursuing marriage as God intends, if he is a believer in Christ and becomes sober and healthy and walks with the Lord. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, 2 Corinthians 6:14, so we pray first for his salvation and deliverance and that your relationship would be brought into alignment with God's holy will. Courtship should always have the goal of a Christ centered marriage between two believers. We say this not to condemn you, for there is forgiveness and grace in Jesus, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9, but to call you both toward the fullness of God's best and protection for you and your children.
We encourage you to not walk through this alone. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit, Psalm 34:18. Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, Philippians 4:6. Please lean on a trusted pastor, a Bible believing church family, and godly counsel for support during your pregnancy. For his addiction, continue to pray fervently but also set loving and biblical boundaries and do not enable the addiction. Encourage professional help, recovery resources and Christian accountability when he is willing, and trust God to work even when you cannot reach him.
We now pray together for you, your daughter, your unborn son, and for this man.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior. We lift up this father to You, wherever he is on the streets tonight. Lord, keep him alive and safe, place Your hand of protection over him, for he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty, Psalm 91:1. We rebuke the works of the devil and the spirit of addiction that has him bound, and we ask You to break those chains in Jesus name. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you, James 4:7. Draw him to Yourself, convict his heart, bring him to the end of himself and to repentance, and make him a new creation in Christ, Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new, 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Lord, create in him a hunger for sobriety, for health, for wholeness, and for You above all else. Provide a way of escape from temptation and lead him home in Your timing and in a way that honors You. We pray for this dear mother, that You would give her strength and peace that surpasses all understanding, Philippians 4:7, guard her heart, sustain her body as she carries this child, and provide for every need for her and her daughter. Surround them with Your people to help and uphold them. We pray that if it is Your will, You would restore this family in a godly marriage that honors You, that this man would become a godly husband and father who leads his home in righteousness. We trust Your plans, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, amen.
