Prayer request

Zedekiah

Humble Servant of All
I worked several long and hard days with my dad before he passed. My parents strayed from faith and from prayer and from worship and from strict moral values and slid seamlessly into late nights drinking in the kitchen and garage for fun. They also took narcotics for fun. They raised me and my sister up loosely. Mom let is have cigarettes and supported our cigarette addiction before we were old enough to buy cigarettes. Dad let us drink alcohol in the house and get drunk with freinds as teens. Mom and dad also gave us party drugs for fun on occasion like Xanax and opiods. Also because I didnt work I supported my opiate habit by stealing them from my mom often. All this is really bad but it launched me into where my life is today. I was an avid conspiracy theorist as a teenager and pronounced ideas about how the government was into all kinds of stuff we didnt know about from my youth. I fell in love with a good hearted gentle woman online who was a long distance relationship for us and this impacted my decision to be sober and chaste. She still wont marry me until my heart has been fully converted to Christ. Im prayimg still my heart and my life can be converted completely to Christ so I can marry the woman i love with some old lingering new age beliefs still clinging onto me from the past. Thank you for praying for me. In Lord Yeshua name amen.

We have heard your request and we join with you in bringing it before the Lord, and we thank you for sharing so honestly about your past and your present hope.

We grieve with you over the loss of your dad and we honor those long hard days you worked at his side before he passed. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, for Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. We also grieve over how your parents strayed from faith and from prayer and from worship and from strict moral values. What you describe, late nights drinking and taking narcotics for fun and then giving cigarettes and alcohol and even Xanax and opioids to you and your sister while you were still teens, is a grave sin and a failure of their God given duty to protect and to raise you in the nurture and admonition of the Lord as taught in Ephesians 6:4. We must lovingly rebuke that pattern, and we also must rebuke your own past part in it, supporting an opiate habit by stealing from your mother, for Exodus 20:15 says You shall not steal and Ephesians 4:28 calls the thief to steal no more. We also rebuke the drunkenness and drug use itself, for Ephesians 5:18 says Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, and 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us that our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and we are to glorify God in our body. We say this not to condemn you, because we rejoice that you are turning from these things, but so that you may fully renounce them and walk in the light, for 1 John 1:9 promises If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We praise God that you have chosen to be sober and chaste, and we see the Lord's mercy in bringing into your life a good hearted gentle woman who loves you enough to wait and to call you to a higher standard. Her desire not to marry you until your heart has been fully converted to Christ is wise and biblical, for 2 Corinthians 6:14 says Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, and courtship should always be with the goal of marriage between a man and a woman who are both believers in Christ, a lifelong covenant that honors God as taught in Hebrews 13:4 which says Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled. We strongly endorse your desire for marriage rather than simply a relationship, and we encourage you to continue to pursue her in purity, for 1 Corinthians 6:18 says Flee sexual immorality, and to keep yourself chaste until that marriage covenant is made. Her standard is protecting you both.

We also hear that you are still wrestling with old lingering new age beliefs from the past and with an avid interest in conspiracy theories from your youth. We urge you to bring these fully under the lordship of Christ, for Colossians 2:8 warns See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ, and Deuteronomy 18:10-12 shows that the Lord forbids practices that seek hidden spiritual knowledge apart from Him. The new age offers a counterfeit spirituality that cannot save, and conspiracy thinking can consume the mind and steal peace that belongs to Christ. We encourage you to set your mind on what is true and holy, as Philippians 4:8 says Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things, and to be transformed by the renewing of your mind as Romans 12:2 teaches.

You prayed in the name of Lord Yeshua and we affirm with you that Yeshua is Jesus, and it is only by His name that we have access to God and are saved. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, and John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. A full conversion of the heart is not merely wanting to be a better man so you can marry the woman you love, though that desire is good, it is being made a new creation by faith in Jesus Christ who died for your sins and rose again. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. We encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, as Romans 10:9 teaches, to turn from all sin including the lingering new age ideas, to be baptized and to walk daily in His Word, in prayer, in worship, and in fellowship with a faithful Bible believing church where you can be discipled and held accountable in sobriety and purity.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord Yeshua, and we thank You for this dear brother who has come out of much darkness and who now seeks You with a sincere heart. We ask You to forgive him for every sin, for the drunkenness and drug use, for stealing, for every new age belief and every thought that has exalted itself against the knowledge of You, and to wash him clean by the blood of Jesus shed on the cross. Lord, comfort him in his grief for his father and bring healing where there has been wounding from his upbringing. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, renew his mind by Your Word, and make him a new creation, that the old things would pass away and all things would become new. Help him to renounce completely every new age practice and every fascination that distracts from Christ, and to fix his eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. Keep him sober and vigilant, for 1 Peter 5:8 says Be sober and self-controlled, and keep him chaste and holy as he waits for marriage. We pray for this courtship, that if it is Your will, You would lead it toward a godly marriage that honors You, a marriage between a man and a woman committed for life, and that both would be equally yoked in Christ and would build their home on Your Word. Give him brothers in Christ to walk beside him, give him hunger for Scripture and for prayer and for worship, and let his conversion be not for the sake of marriage alone but for the sake of knowing You and being saved. We ask that You would make his heart fully Yours, that he would love You first and above all, and that out of that love he would love his future wife well. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

We are grateful you shared your story so honestly, including the painful history with your parents and your dad's passing, and the hard road with substances that began so young. It takes courage to name those things, and we hear how much you want your heart and daily life to belong fully to Christ, and how you long to walk in sobriety and purity as you think about marriage.

What you describe about lingering new age ideas makes sense. When those ways of seeing the world shaped you for years, they do not leave all at once. Learning to trust Christ with your whole life is often a process of letting go of old patterns of control and fear and learning a new way of depending on Him day by day, not just agreeing in your mind.

We would encourage you to walk this out with others, not alone. If you have a trusted pastor or Christian counselor, consider meeting regularly to talk through both the faith questions and the history of opiate use. Alongside prayer, it is also wise to reach out to a medical professional for support with substance use.

Father, we lift this brother to You. Thank You for the work You have already begun in his heart and his desire to follow You. Bring healing from past wounds, freedom from cravings, clarity as old beliefs lose their hold, and wisdom for his relationship. Guide him to safe, steady support and draw him closer to You each day. In Jesus' name, amen.

Reaching out through prayer and with regular use of prayer and scripture resources and a lot of time in reflection and prayer and waiting is the only way to be completely converted. I also give thanks to God for all of my work which has sustained me thus far. Thank you God for work. Lord Yeshuas name. Amen.

We have received your honest confession with sorrow and with hope, for you have told the truth about your past and about the mercy you now seek, and God hears those who tell Him the truth.

You were raised without the guard of faith and prayer and strict holiness, and you have seen where that path leads, to late nights and strong drink and drugs taken for sport, and to the sorrow of a habit that made you steal even from your own mother. Do not make light of these things, nor despair on account of them. There is a pit into which sin brings a man, and you have looked over its edge. But God has invented a way of deliverance which no mind but His own would have conceived, and He has found a ransom. That ransom is the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ, who was bound that His people might be free, who was made sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. Look out of yourself and away from yourself, and look to Christ, not to forms or feelings or works, but to what Christ has done. In that looking there goes forth the word, Deliver him from going down to the pit, for I have found a ransom.

You ask now that your heart and life may be converted completely to Christ, and that you may be made sober and chaste, and this is the right prayer. Yet hear this, wholehearted religion is the opposite of a sad mixture. Sincerity does not open the front door to Christ and the back gate to the devil. If any man is in Christ he is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold all things are become new. It is not said that he has something new about him, but that he himself is new. No man becomes a new creature by any process apart from Christ. Therefore those lingering new age beliefs of which you speak must not be clung to ever so little. They are not harmless notions to be kept alongside faith in Jesus. Declare that you will serve Belial ever so little and your service to Christ is but a traitorous service. Your heart must be united for intensity of life. Where there is not a thorough separation from the world, there is cause to fear there is no close union to Christ. The best part of confession to Christ lies in practically giving up everything which Christ would not sanction, and following out whatever Christ would ordain.

You speak of a gentle woman whom you love at a distance, and that your love for her has helped to turn you toward sobriety and chastity. We thank God for every restraint of sin, and that you are now minded to keep yourself chaste until marriage, for sex and living together belong only within the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman in marriage, and to keep that boundary is good and right. Yet take heed that you love the creature in Christ and in subordination to Christ, for it is hard to love the creature much and yet not too much. You must not seek Christ chiefly that you may win a wife, but seek Christ that you may win Christ. If you seek Him only for the sake of marriage, your foundation will fail. Seek Him because you are lost without Him, because you need pardon and a new heart, because without being born again from above you will go below. He must be your all, and then all other mercies, including marriage if it be His will, will be added in their proper place. The wisdom which bids you wait until there is evidence of a true conversion is a kindness to you both.

We rejoice that you desire to be buried with Christ and to rise with Christ, to be a dead man to your old self and your old sin, and henceforth to live alone for Him. This is confession of Christ. Those who feed on Christ, the Bread of Heaven, are nourished and strong and preserved from a thousand ills. Therefore cast yourself upon God in Christ. Forsake utterly the opiates and the party drugs and the theft and the conspiracy speculations which once fed your mind. Put away every new age thought, for Christ is the Maker of all things new and He will not share His throne. Turn from them as you would turn from poison. Walk in the light, join yourself to a faithful church where Christ is preached, confess Him openly as He ordains, and bring forth fruits worthy of repentance, including, as you are able, confession and restitution where you have stolen.

Be not discouraged by the greatness of your need or by the memory of your father whom you have lost. Thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. If you seek Christ, this promise is yours. Take it home, suck the juice from this cluster of new wine. He who wrote your name in wounds upon His hands has not forgotten you, though you have had tribulation, for in the world ye shall have tribulation, and that proves His word is true. He makes deliverance effectual and He brings forth His people indeed when the Lamb is slain for them.

We will pray for you.

O Lord God, who hast found a ransom, look graciously upon this seeker. Forgive his sins of youth and his sins against his own body and against his mother and against Thee, for the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from all sin. Make him a new creature in Christ, let old things pass away and let all things become new. Break and bruise what must be broken, and put sweetness within, and develop that sweetness for Thy glory. Unite his heart to fear Thy name, make his religion wholehearted, and keep his feet in chastity and sobriety not for the praise of men but for love of Christ. If it be Thy will, prepare him to be a fit husband in a holy covenant of marriage, but first prepare him to be Thine. Deliver him from going down to the pit, and raise him up to sit in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. For Jesus sake, Amen.
