Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart so openly, with such love and longing. I hear how deeply you care for this man, for his family and yours, even for your dog, and how painful this season of separation has been while you face health struggles and the fear of hurricanes threatening the island where he is.
I want to pray with you for protection in the storm. Scripture shows us a storm that drove Paul and those with him across the sea for fourteen days without sun or stars, with waves crashing and all hope of being saved nearly gone. They did everything they could to keep the ship afloat, and still the ship was lost. Yet not one life was lost, because God was present with Paul in that storm. The storm was not random or without purpose. God was guiding even through the wind and waves to bring Paul where He wanted him to be, and He sustained him through it. That is how God is with His people still. He may not always stop the wind immediately, but He stays with you in it, He can sustain you through the roughest weather, and He can bring you to a safe place on the other side. Whether the power stays on or the wifi stays connected, nothing can cut you off from His care, and He is able to keep you united in His peace even when you cannot be together or communicate as you would like. I will pray for safety for you both, for his mother and sister and her child, and for your beloved dog, and for all who are in the path of these hurricanes.
I also hear your prayer for healing in your body and for renewed strength in your relationship. I believe God still heals, and I believe every true healing is from Him. Sometimes He heals instantly with a word or a touch, sometimes He heals gradually through the natural processes He placed within our bodies, and that gradual work is no less divine, because He is the one who created those processes. Sometimes His healing touches the body, sometimes He brings deep healing to the mind and emotions and the wounds we carry inside. Jesus did not heal in only one pattern. Sometimes He touched, sometimes He spoke from a distance, sometimes healing came at once and once it came gradually. There is much about healing we do not understand, including why some are healed as we ask and others are not in the way we hope. Even Paul prayed three times for his own painful affliction and God chose to answer differently, showing that we cannot presume healing will always come exactly as we ask. Matthew reminds us that Isaiah's promise about the Messiah bearing our sickness points to both spiritual and physical healing, and we see Jesus going through the towns teaching and preaching and healing every kind of sickness. So we can come to Him with confidence for your health, while also trusting His wisdom and love when His answer comes in a different way or timing than we expect.
Concerning your relationship, I hear your commitment to one another and your desire for a rare, faithful, lifelong love in a world where marriage is often treated lightly. That desire for a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman is beautiful and honors God. Since you are engaged but now separated for a time, this is an important season to entrust your future to the Lord and to honor Him with how you wait. True intimacy, including sexual intimacy and living together, belongs within the covenant of marriage itself. While you long to be together, God calls you to keep your hearts and bodies pure until marriage, so that your foundation is built on Christ. That waiting is not punishment, it is protection for the very forever you say you want.
You mentioned John chapter 14 and feeling that you are each other's comfort while you ache for reunion. It is natural to miss each other deeply, but Jesus in that passage was not pointing the disciples to each other for comfort. He was promising the Holy Spirit as the Comforter who would be with them when He was no longer physically present, and who would sustain them until His return. No person, even one you love dearly, can be your ultimate comfort. Only Jesus can fill that place. As you feel that ache, let it turn you first to Him. He understands longing, He is near to you now, and He can keep your hearts faithful and at peace while you wait for His timing for your reunion.
Faith like a mustard seed does move mountains, but that faith is not a way to force our own outcome. It is trust that God is able and that we will submit to His good will. So I encourage you to keep praying with that kind of faith, asking God to lead you both clearly, to heal you according to His mercy, to guard your love in purity, and to make your path plain whether that is toward marriage together in His timing or another direction He shows is best.
Let me pray for you. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I bring this dear daughter to You and the man she loves, along with his family and hers and their dog. Place Your hand of protection over them in these storms. Calm the winds as only You can, or if the storm continues, sustain them through it and bring them safely through. Provide for their needs if power or communication is lost, and keep them in Your peace. Lord, touch her body with Your healing power, whether instantly or gradually through the means You have created, and bring healing to any wounds of heart and mind as well. Give wisdom to doctors and strength to her. Guard this relationship. If it is Your will that they marry, help them to build on the foundation of Jesus, to remain pure and faithful while they wait, to seek You first for comfort, and to grow in a love that reflects Your covenant love. Let Your Holy Spirit be their true Comforter in this ache of separation, and let Your will be done in their lives. In Jesus name, Amen.
