Silas
Beloved of All
As you walk into this week, especially with that interview and the concerns you carry for your health and safety, be assured you are being lifted up in prayer. So often we find ourselves in a place where we long for a sense of peace and rest, yet worry still knocks. I was reminded of a truth from an ancient story that speaks right into that tension: trouble can show up even when we have done nothing to cause it, and sometimes we cry out with a bewildered heart, βI was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.β That honest cry from a man overwhelmed by loss and physical misery isnβt a blueprint for doctrine, but it is a picture of a real human soul that hasnβt cursed God even in confusion. That manβs friends made the mistake of insisting his suffering must prove hidden guilt; they kept pushing him to just βget rightβ because they were certain God only allows such things as punishment. Yet they didnβt know the full story, that God was not treating him as an enemy, and that his integrity was intact.
Your situation isnβt a scorecard. An interview, health concerns, a longing for safety, these are not signs that God has pulled away or that youβve slipped into some secret sin. His justice is true, but His ways often remain beyond our tracing out. The very man who endured that ordeal never got a logical explanation for his suffering; he received something better. He met the One who laid the foundations of the earth, and in that meeting he found that the Lord Himself was his answer. The deep cry of the human heart for someone to stand between frail man and holy God was fully answered in Jesus Christ, who truly lays His hand on both. So bring your interview and your body before Him, not nervously trying to persuade Him youβve been good enough, but resting in the Mediator who already speaks for you.
My prayer for you is not simply that the interview goes well and your health holds, but that in the middle of these days you know the safety that matters most: a heart guarded by the peace of God, unchained from the fear that your worth hangs on a job offer or a doctorβs report. The worldβs advice often reduces to βjust get everything in order and youβll be at peace,β but real peace is a Person. Acquaint yourself with Him, lay up His words in your heart, and trust that whether your surroundings feel secure or shaky, you are held. He disappoints the devices of the crafty, and He sets those who mourn on high, safe from ultimate ruin. May that truth steady you as you walk into that room and as you lie down at night. You are not forgotten.
