Why do you tremble at the thought of bodily darkness? This fear is a mist that chokes the word. The Lord Himself met the women fleeing the tomb with terror and joy, and His first word was, β€œBe not afraid.” He casts out such fear to make room for faith. Do you think He cares less for the eyes in your head than for the eyes of your soul? When Ananias was sent to Saul, he was seized with dread because he had heard only of the man’s violence and his blindness. He cried out in fear, β€œHe is blind! Why bid me open his eyes?” Yet what did the Lord answer? β€œHe is a chosen vessel unto Me.” The scales that covered those natural eyes were the doorway to a greater sight. The very thing you dread may be the workshop where God fashions an instrument for His glory. A sword is terrible to the one who does evil, but it is the minister of God. So too, this ailment is not merely a thing to flee; it is a threshold upon which you stand, and Christ stands with you, saying, β€œBe not afraid; only believe.”

Cease this frantic enquiry that springs from cowardice. The one who with trembling demands to know if every morsel from the market is safe lives not by faith but by a slavish terror. Do you not know that your body, even with its faltering sight, is a more honorable vessel than any garment? If you would not defile a garment with filth, will you now stain your soul by distrusting the Craftsman who formed these eyes? The fear that befits you is not this cringing over physical ruin, but the holy fear of contradicting God, the fear of rebelling against His providence. You are tempted to act as if the executioner had already laid hold of you, yet the Lord’s yoke is easy. He does not deal with you as a taskmaster handing a burden too heavy to bear. He says, β€œLearn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart.” Take that yoke. The rest He promises is for the soul, even while the body endures the thorns of this present life.

Look beyond the eyes of flesh. If He has permitted this shadow to fall, it is that you might see Him more clearly. The rain has fallen on your ground often; do not let this trial become the sun that withers all moisture and leaves only thorns of care. Do not cling to the feet of bodily comfort, as if that were the substance of hope. The Lord has sent you this message through your fear, not to break you, but to draw you where He may be seen: in Galilee, in the ordinary ground of humble trust. I have prayed that the peace of Christ, which passes all medicine and all terror, would keep you. Stand still, and see the salvation of your God, whether He restores these eyes or gives you the unspeakable vision that saw the gates of brass broken, and the dead loosed, and the keepers of hell cowering in fear.

The fear you are feeling right now is real, and it is overwhelming. That kind of fear sets in when you face something completely beyond your control, and the darkness of "what if" presses in. But what Scripture shows us is that there is another kind of fear, a fear that is actually the beginning of wisdom. It is not a terror that God is going to hurt you. It is a reverential awe. It is a love that says, "I do not want to hurt Him; I want to please Him; I want to trust Him even when I cannot see."

Right now, your physical sight is dim or threatened, and it is easy to lean entirely on your own understanding of what that means. The natural mind races to desolation and distress. But the wisdom that comes from the fear of the Lord takes a different path. It starts here: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding." Your own understanding is telling you to panic. Faith, born out of reverence for who God is, tells you to acknowledge Him.

He is the God of all comfort. That is who He revealed Himself to be in the hardest places. When you are cast down, when you are in the dark night, He does not stand far off. He stands beside you. Perhaps He allows us to reach the absolute end of our own capacity specifically so that we stop trusting in ourselves. He brings us to the place where the sentence feels like death, where we despair even of life, so that we might learn to trust in the God who raises the dead. He delivers us, He is delivering us, and right in the middle of the storm where you cannot see the sun for fourteen days, He speaks comfort.

Your situation is not beyond His arm. Even if the heavens vanish away like smoke, His salvation endures forever. The fear of man, the fear of diagnosis, the fear of suffering brings a snare, but whoever puts their trust in the Lord shall be safe. You do not need to fear the reproach of the body's weakness. Let this trial produce in you that vehement desire to please Him, a zeal to do what is right in His eyes, and a deep sorrow that turns into trust. As you take that step of trusting Him with everything you have, He will direct your path. That is a promise: health to your spirit and marrow to your bones, regardless of what the physical eyes see. He will comfort Zion, and He will comfort you.

We want to thank you for trusting us with your prayer request and allowing us to stand in agreement with you before the Lord. It has been on our hearts to lift up your concern about your eyesight, and we have been praying that God would bring healing, comfort, and peace to you during this time of uncertainty. We know how frightening it can be to face challenges with our health, and we’ve asked the Lord to remind you of His presence and His promise to never leave you nor forsake you.

If God has answered this prayerβ€”whether through healing, a clear diagnosis, or simply the peace that surpasses all understandingβ€”we would love to rejoice with you. Please share a praise report so we can all give thanks together. If, however, your eyesight is still a concern and you’re feeling that same fear or uncertainty, we encourage you to post this request again. We are here to continue praying with you, believing that God hears and cares deeply about every detail of your life.

May the Lord bless you with His peace as you trust in Him. May He open your eyesβ€”not just physically, but spirituallyβ€”to see His faithfulness and love in every circumstance. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
