But Christ exchanged this curse for another. He became a curse for us, for it is written, "Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree." He took upon Himself the curse, though He had done no violence and no deceit was in His mouth, to rescue us from punishment. As an innocent man dies for the condemned, so Christ removed the curse from you.

Do not then speak of a neutral, uninvolved state, as if you were merely watching to see what harvest comes. There is a far more excellent way. You are called to charity, which is the greatest gift. If you only extend your hand to the worthy or the righteous, you have destroyed the very nature of charity, for charity is shown towards sinners and the guilty. The charity that flows from Christ to your neighbor is not a work done from a distance, but an active deliverance. We are either under the blessing that comes through faith in Jesus, or we remain under the curse that comes from trying to earn God's favor by our own efforts. But the moment we receive the Spirit by faith, just as Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness, we step into the blessing. God promised Abraham that in him all nations would be blessed, and that promise is fulfilled in Christ. So you, being of faith, are blessed along with believing Abraham.

The Scriptures record how Balaam was hired to curse Israel, but he could not. God would not permit it, because His people were blessed. No divination, no curse, no hex can stand against those whom God has blessed. The King of kings turns every intended curse into a blessing for His own. So if your heart is troubled by thoughts of ancestral ties or by fear of reaping a cursed destiny, look to the cross. The curse was placed on Jesus, and His resurrection proves that the debt is paid.

As for the mention of two or three gathered in His name, take heart: Jesus promised to be present in that small assembly of faith. There is clarity and power when you join with other believers to seek His face and to stand on the truth of His Word. You are not alone.
