Faithful Servant
Yesterday morning, my father was coughing a lot and he almost seemed to choke while he was eating at one point. I notice he coughs a lot while he eats in general. I believe this may be due to dental problems. Please pray for him about this and also for his safety while my mother and I are out of the house and he is alone, especially when my mother and I go to church. He will not go to church with us. Thank you.

We are deeply concerned to hear about your father’s struggles with coughing, especially during meals, and we understand your worry for his health and safety. This is a matter that calls for our earnest prayers and attention before the Lord.

First, we want to lift your father’s physical health to God, asking for His healing touch. The Bible assures us in James 5:14-15, "Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up." We pray that the Lord would guide your father to seek the medical care he needs, whether it be dental or otherwise, and that He would grant wisdom to the professionals who may assist him. Father, we ask that You would ease his discomfort, strengthen his body, and restore his ability to eat and drink without distress. May Your healing hand be upon him, Lord, and may he experience Your peace and comfort in this time.

We also pray for his safety while he is alone, especially when you and your mother are at church. The Lord is our ever-present help in times of trouble, as Psalm 46:1 reminds us: "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." We ask that You would surround your father with Your angels, Lord, protecting him from harm and giving him the strength and alertness he needs. May he feel Your presence even in moments of solitude, and may he come to know the peace that surpasses all understanding, as Philippians 4:7 promises.

Now, we must also address the spiritual concern that weighs on our hearts. Your father’s refusal to attend church with you and your mother is a matter that requires gentle but firm attention. The Bible is clear that fellowship with other believers is not optional but essential for our spiritual growth and encouragement. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, "Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as you see the Day approaching." We pray that the Lord would soften your father’s heart and open his eyes to the importance of gathering with the body of Christ. May he come to understand that church is not just a place to go but a family to belong to, a family that loves and supports one another in Christ.

We also want to encourage you and your mother to continue praying for him and loving him unconditionally, even in his resistance. Your faithfulness in attending church and seeking the Lord is a powerful testimony, and we believe the Lord can use your example to draw your father closer to Him. In 1 Peter 3:1-2, wives are encouraged to win their husbands "without a word, by the behavior of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure behavior." While this passage is directed toward wives, the principle of living out your faith in a way that honors God can speak volumes to those who are resistant. We pray that your father would see Christ in you and be drawn to the truth of the Gospel.

Most importantly, we must emphasize that salvation and a relationship with God come only through Jesus Christ. Acts 4:12 declares, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." If your father has not placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, we urge you to pray fervently for his salvation. Share the Gospel with him in love, and trust that the Holy Spirit will work in his heart. Romans 10:9 says, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." We pray that your father would come to know Jesus personally and experience the transformative power of His love.

Let us now lift these concerns to the Lord in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear father who is struggling with his health and safety. Lord, we ask that You would heal his body and ease the discomfort he experiences, especially while eating. Give him the strength and wisdom to seek the care he needs, and guide the hands of those who may assist him. We also ask that You would protect him when he is alone, surrounding him with Your angels and filling him with Your peace. Lord, we pray for his spiritual condition as well. Soften his heart to the truth of Your Word and draw him into a relationship with You through Jesus Christ. Help him to see the importance of fellowship with other believers and the joy of worshiping You in spirit and in truth. Father, we trust in Your goodness and Your power to work in his life. May he come to know You as his Savior and Lord, and may his life be a testimony to Your grace. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to continue trusting in the Lord’s faithfulness, even in the midst of these concerns. Keep praying, keep loving your father, and keep shining the light of Christ in your home. The Lord is at work, even when we cannot see it, and His timing is perfect. May He bless you and your family abundantly as you seek Him together.

We’re so sorry to hear about your dad’s coughing spells, that sounds really worrying, especially when he’s alone. We’ll keep praying for healing in his body, that whatever’s causing this would be taken care of quickly. And we’d also ask God to watch over him when you’re not there, keeping him safe and peaceful in Your presence.

It’s tough when family doesn’t share the same faith, but we know God can soften hearts. We’ll pray that your dad would see the love of Christ in you and your mom, maybe even feeling drawn to faith through your example. Please don’t lose hope, God hears every prayer, and He’s at work even when we can’t see it yet.

Father, we lift this situation to You right now. Heal your servant, protect him, and draw him closer to You. Let Your peace guard his heart and mind. In Jesus’ name, amen.
