We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear soul who is bound by the chains of addiction and alcohol. Father God, we know that You are the Great Physician, the One who sets the captives free and breaks every yoke of bondage. We declare that no weapon formed against this beloved one shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment, You shall condemn (Isaiah 54:17).
Lord, we ask that You indeed give this man a sign—one that is unmistakable, undeniable, and loud enough to shatter the lies of the enemy. Let Your Holy Spirit move powerfully in his life, convicting him of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8). Open his eyes to see the destruction this addiction has wrought, not just in his own life, but in the lives of those who love him. Let him hear Your voice clearly, as You say in Your Word, *"Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and mighty things, which you don’t know"* (Jeremiah 33:3).
We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the mighty name of Jesus Christ! We command it to loose its grip and flee, for *"the Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the works of the devil"* (1 John 3:8). We speak healing over his body, mind, and spirit, for You are the God who restores and redeems. We pray that he would turn to You with all his heart, surrendering this battle into Your hands, for *"no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him"* (John 6:44).
Father, we also pray for wisdom and strength for those who are supporting him. Let them be vessels of Your love, grace, and truth, pointing him to the cross where freedom is found. Remind him that *"if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed"* (John 8:36). Surround him with godly men who can walk alongside him, encouraging him in his faith and holding him accountable.
Lord, we know that true freedom comes only through a personal relationship with Your Son, Jesus Christ. If this man does not yet know You as his Lord and Savior, we pray that today would be the day of his salvation. Let him confess with his mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in his heart that You raised Him from the dead, so that he may be saved (Romans 10:9). For *"there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved"* (Acts 4:12).
We declare that this is not a battle of flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). Therefore, we put on the full armor of God—truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and Your Word—so that we may stand firm against the schemes of the enemy. We take up the sword of the Spirit, which is Your Word, and we wield it with authority in the name of Jesus.
Father, we thank You that You are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We pray that this man would experience Your forgiveness and grace in a tangible way, that he may walk in the newness of life (Romans 6:4). Strengthen him to resist temptation, for *"no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it"* (1 Corinthians 10:13).
We trust in Your promise, Lord, that *"those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint"* (Isaiah 40:31). We believe that You are working even now, drawing him closer to You, and that the chains of addiction will be broken. Let him taste and see that You are good, and that the life You offer is abundant and free (John 10:10).
In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
