Marriage

Dear Lord,

Sometimes we lack self-discipline. We often say things we shouldn’t, look at things we shouldn’t, think things we shouldn’t, and even have wrong motives. We feel like Paul when he says in Romans 7 “For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate.” Help us to gain this powerful character trait. We want to have full control over our mouths, eyes, minds, and hearts.

In Jesus’ name, amen...

 

Dear Lord,

Thank you for your love for us and thank you for the calling You have placed on each one of us. Lord, we pray that we would seek You with everything we have. We pray that we would take every effort to add to our faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For we know if we possess these qualities in increasing...

 

Dear Lord,

Thank You for our family. We pray a blessing over our family and we also pray that You would protect us. This world is full of evil and every day there is something crazy happening. We pray that You would cover our family with Your hand of protection. Please give us peace and strength. Help us to be there for each other in any way that we can. We pray Your will is done in our lives and in our marriage.

A wife recently reached out to me about her struggling marriage, and in the course of our back-and-forth, I made this observation:

Lack of safety may be the #1 reason marriages dissolve. It could be emotional safety. Physical safety. Financial safety. Whatever. But when you no longer feel safe with someone, intimacy is simply not possible.

Dear Lord,

We need help focusing. There are so many distractions in this life and things that try and take our focus and attention away from You, each other and our kids. Lord, we know we have a lot of responsibilities, but we pray that Your spirit would guide us and show us when something needs to be cut out of our lives or when we need to say no to something. Show us how to use our time more effectively. Show us how to make time to be in Your word more regularly. We love you Lord and need...

 

Dear Lord,

Forgive us for our anger and frustration toward each other. We know that we were both overwhelmed and frustrated, but we should have had more self-control over our tongues. Lord, help us to not allow the sun to go down on our anger. Teach us how to be angry without sinning. Give us patience for one another. We want to be men and women who resemble Your Son, Lord.

Dear Lord,

We pray for husbands and wives today. May You fill them with Your strength as they endure today. We pray for Your peace to surround them. May Your will be done in them and through them as Your Holy Spirit guides their paths. We pray that they would not be so distracted with what they have to do that they neglect one another. Please help them to serve each other with all humility and selflessness. Help them to fulfill what needs of theirs they can and to not withhold because...​

 

Dear Lord,

We pray for spouses who are not walking with You daily. Spouses who don’t claim You as Lord and Savior. We pray for those who are not pursuing You daily or have yet to accept You into their hearts. Reveal Yourself to them in powerful ways and captivate them with Your love. We pray that spouses would burn with passion for You and each other, centering their marriage around YOU!
