Bible Verse for Today

Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.

—Proverbs 3:27 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Rather than "looking out for" only "number 1" — for ourselves — God commands us to look out for those deserving of our goodness — whether that goodness is help, aid, praise, love, affection, attention, or affirmation. We should act decisively and give these deserving people what they need. We are to be a people, as Paul tells us...

For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

—Luke 19:10 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Jesus came so that the last could be first, the sick could be healed, the sinners could be saved, and the lost could be found. That was his purpose: to fix that which was broken — not just what is broken in us, but also all that is broken in our world, all humanity that is warped, and all that is lost that goes with this brokenness. So how can we wear the name of...

Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.

—Psalm 141:4 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

How important is it for you to be pure? How important is it for you to be righteous? For David, who had experienced the elation of sharing an intimate holy relationship with God and the utter pain of miserably failing God, guarding his heart was of ultimate importance. He didn't want to have any part...

Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you.

—2 Thessalonians 3:1 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

What can we do to help spread the good news of Jesus and help increase the number of those being saved each day? Actually, there are many things we can do. Here are a few:

• Put in a good word for Jesus in our daily routines.
• Share our faith with a friend.
• Go on a mission trip that focuses...

Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

—Psalm 141:3 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

How important is our speech? Jesus said it revealed what was going on in our hearts. Proverbs repeatedly tells us that our words can wound and destroy or heal and bring life. The apostle Paul commands us to speak only what will benefit those who hear us. In light of these Scriptures, David's prayer in today's verse is very appropriate. Only God can help us tame our...

A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.

—Proverbs 21:29 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

When we harbor wickedness in our hearts, there are all sorts of "fronts" we have to keep up so people won't know the truth about us. But if righteousness is our aim, we'll try to live up to that goal with honesty. When we blow it — we stumble, sin, and rebel — we'll be honest and penitent. We won't put up a facade and pretend we didn't sin or try to...

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

—2 Timothy 3:15 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

From infancy! If you had a godly mom or dad who brought you into the world surrounded by faith in Jesus, stories from the Bible, and lullabies of faith, praise God and thank them. If you didn't, then make a commitment that your children and grandchildren will be given this head...

And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost. So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in ### and ###.

—1 Thessalonians 1:6-7 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

The cycle of faithfulness is illustrated in this passage. The Lord is our great example. People of faith model the Lord's character and passion to us. We then live that life of faith as an example to others. In other words, the Gospel is...

I will praise thee, O LORD, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.

—Psalm 108:3 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Songs go where evangelism, witnessing, and planned outreach sometimes cannot go. Songs tell a story, offer praise, and deliver truth in a package that opens hearts and stirs emotions. Songs give life to our souls and stir something primal buried deep inside us by God. When you are around friends you are trying to reach with the...

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.

—Psalm 103:2-3 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Our God is incredible. He not only defines and defeats sin; he also delivers us from the deserved penalty for our sins by forgiving them and also purifying us of all unrighteousness. True healing means more than curing a sick body — and we praise God for the times he has given us physical healing. True...
