Bible Verse for Today

And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

—Acts 17:4 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Women have always played an essential role in the work of God. This was especially true in the first century in Macedonia and Achaia (Philippi, Thessalonica, Berea, Athens, and Corinth). In each of these places, the Gospel touched many of the leading women of the community. We know they played...

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things.

—Titus 2:3 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

"Teach... to teach!" We need faithful women who reverence God in Jesus' family. We need them to demonstrate how to reverence God in our daily lives through their Christ-like character. They need our encouragement "to teach what is good" for our coming generations. We should pray that...

Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not enquire wisely concerning this.

—Ecclesiastes 7:10 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Looking overly long in the rearview mirror, we only gain an oncoming disaster in our front windshield! Our best days as Christians are always ahead. Jesus has promised to return and take us home to be with God! What better future could there be? So let's not get distracted by a nostalgic...

Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

—1 Timothy 4:14 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Life is often busy, full of distractions and "to-do" lists. Let's not let our "busyness" keep us from our Father's "business" (Luke 2:49 NKJV). Let's find the ways God gifted us to serve him and his people (1 Peter 4:10-11); then, let's dedicate ourselves to doing our Father's work with all our heart...

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

—1 Peter 5:5 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

The word "submissive" is often viewed as positive or negative based on our personal experience. It is nice having someone serve us submissively, but serving someone else submissively is hard and sometimes imposing work. Unfortunately, we are...

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

—Isaiah 40:29 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Even the most pumped-up, excited, and optimistic among us can find ourselves broken, discouraged, and weary when facing challenging times in our lives. It isn't hard to believe and follow Jesus when we are soaring on eagles' wings or running and not growing weary in our walk with God. Often the most challenging time to keep our faith vibrant...

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.

—Ecclesiastes 12:1 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

When we are young, we can have many tasks that need doing. Many fun and exciting things can also distract us from doing what is essential. So, we should ask the LORD to help us manage our passions and responsibilities with grace. We should use the energy and excitement of...

Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.

—Psalm 71:9 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

We live in an age where those who are older are often shoved aside, ignored, and forgotten. This is true in the professional world with employees and advancement. This is also true in churches which often find themselves pandering to those who are younger or more financially powerful while forgetting the aging, widowed, and powerless. Let's remember...

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.

—Ephesians 4:15 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Our goal as believers is to mature into the loving presence of Christ Jesus as his unified bodily presence in our divided world. This challenging goal can only be accomplished if we speak the truth — God's Spirit-inspired message (2 Timothy 3:16-17) — with an attitude of love (Ephesians 4:29-32). How can we expect to convey the...

Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

—Proverbs 23:22 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

"Honor your father and mother..." (Exodus 20:12) is one of God's Ten Commandments. This is basic to God's plan for our lives. Families must be built on God's covenant of grace. Children learning to respect and obey their parents brings many blessings to the family, community, and culture. This early parental training helps children with...
