Bible Verse for Today

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

—Acts 2:17 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

As those living in the last days, each believer — young and old, male and female — must be Spirit-led and Spirit-empowered to give our personal testimony to the grace of God given us in Jesus Christ. As Jesus...

And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.

—Judges 2:7 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Each generation must have its own first-hand experience of God's power and presence to have enduring faith. This kind of faith takes more than receiving a godly heritage in faith and learning stories about the PAST deeds of God. Both are important, yet a...

Honour widows that are widows indeed.

—1 Timothy 5:3 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Practical loving concerns for the powerless and forgotten — widows, fatherless, and foreigners among us (Deuteronomy 10:18, 24:17-21; Psalm 146:9) — are rooted in the heart of God and championed in Old Testament Law. One of the first internal problems the early church urgently faced and handled positively was language prejudice toward some widows — Jewish but Greek-speaking widows in...

Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren.

—1 Timothy 5:1 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

There is an eagerness, passion, and a clear sense of purpose that can go with being young — being headstrong, untested, and quick to react is how some older people might describe it. There is a surety with age because of tried and true methods proven over time — staid, predictable, and unmovable is how younger people might describe it. These...

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

—1 Timothy 4:12 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

How do you command the respect of others when you are young? You don't! You earn that respect by the character and quality of your life. Those of us who are older must recognize and validate younger Christians who are people of character and faith. We need to encourage them and fuel their...

Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.

—Psalm 126:2 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

So many of us are so richly blessed — if not by physical and financial blessings, then most definitely by God's gracious spiritual blessings. And his promises for the future give our lives even more meaning. The LORD has done great things for us! Let's honor him with songs of praise and...

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

—Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Church worship is not the goal of our life here on earth. As important as corporate public worship and personal praise are, they are only part of our goal for worship. We are on earth to glorify God with our lips, lives, hearts, and hands. With the world around us caught up in Satan's traps, God wants us to hear...

Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

—Isaiah 6:6-7 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Isaiah's experience of God's presence brought him sacred cleansing necessary for his life of service to Israel. Similarly, when we put the bread and wine to our lips during the...

Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

—Isaiah 6:5 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

In a time when God's name is so readily taken in vain, this passage has a refreshing bite and warning: God is vastly superior and far more holy than we can ever be on our own merits. To come into his presence should shock us into the instant...

Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

—Isaiah 6:2-3 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Jesus taught us that worship is not about a place but about our Father (John 4:21-24). Knowing that the heavenly hosts worship our Father should inspire, humble, and...
