Bible Verse for Today

Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

—Hebrews 2:17 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

There are very few things the Bible says Jesus "had" to do. Becoming like us is a key he had to do things! Jesus had to be one of us, one with us, and one like us. Notice that Jesus did this so he could be like us in every...

I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs. The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.

—Psalm 69:30-32 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Our praise should not only please God; it should also produce joy and gladness in the streets among the poor! Why? Because praise invites us to not only applaud God for what he...

When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands.

—Deuteronomy 24:19 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Apparently, this is a passage Scrooge hadn't seen! Unfortunately, I fear this is also a passage many of the Father's children haven't taken very seriously. God set...

And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily. Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.

—Psalm 69:17-18 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Jesus came to show God's heart to us and to rescue us from our enemies. But today, in hostile parts of the world, as well as in the places many would least expect it, Christians are under daily attack. God sent Jesus not only to save us ultimately and totally from sin and its...

And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

—Daniel 12:3 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

God promised a sifting between the righteous and the unrighteous both in this life and before the life to come. Jesus repeated the same assurance of such a sifting in his parables. For God's people, however, promises to sift — to judge between righteous and unrighteous — are not fearful...

In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

—John 1:4-5 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Jesus provides life that brings us light. His life provides us with genuine, lasting, and inextinguishable light. Jesus brings us life that gives us light that Satan's darkness cannot steal away. God sent Jesus to shine into our darkness, and all of Satan's forces and all of Satan's demonic angels cannot put...

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

—2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Few other Scriptures have produced more difficulty for God's servants — ministers, pastors, elders — as they have sought to serve others. While not applying only to marriage, it almost certainly applies as a warning to a believer thinking about marrying an...

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

—John 3:20-21 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

What's the power behind your life? One straightforward way to find out is to come to Jesus and ask him to search you and reveal anything spiritually unhealthy or unholy in you. Opening ourselves up to the...

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

—1 Peter 2:9 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

We are chosen as a people with a purpose and for a mission. We are brought out of the darkness of sin and given the marvelous light of salvation to help others find his wonderful light of salvation. You see, we are blessed to be a blessing...

Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

—Psalm 112:4 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

What a powerful promise! Just as night passes into dawn for the gracious, compassionate, and righteous child of God, dawn comes even on the worst nights of deep spiritual darkness. The Holy Spirit is reminding us that even in those worst times of cultural decay and decadence, Satan's darkness will not rule forever. His...
