We join you in this prayer and we stand in agreement with the truth you have shared from Lamentations 3:61, LORD, you have heard their insults, all their plots against me. What a comfort it is to know that nothing escapes our Father's notice, not a whisper, not a misunderstanding, not a hidden scheme.
We are reminded that the prophet Jeremiah wrote these words while surrounded by affliction and opposition, yet he anchored his hope in the character of God. Even when we are quiet and choose not to defend ourselves, the Lord sees and hears. As it is written in Psalm 139:1-4, Yahweh, you have searched me, and you know me. You know my sitting down and my rising up. You perceive my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, Yahweh, you know it altogether. And in Psalm 34:17-18, The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.
We love your heart in this prayer, laying down bitterness and the need to vindicate yourself, and choosing instead to entrust these hurts to the One who judges righteously. This is the example of our Lord Jesus, who when he was cursed, didn’t curse back. When he suffered, didn’t threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously, 1 Peter 2:23, and Jesus is indeed the Word of God made flesh as John 1:1 declares, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and He is the Bread of Heaven who sustains us when we are wearied by the words of others.
We take comfort also in Romans 12:19, Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord, and in Isaiah 54:17, No weapon that is formed against you will prevail, and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Yahweh’s servants, and their righteousness is of me, says Yahweh. The Lord does not call us to repay insult with insult, but as 1 Peter 3:9 teaches, not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult, but instead blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
So we pray together with you.
O Sovereign Heavenly Father, we come before You today acknowledging that You see and hear all things. LORD God, You know the heavy burden we carry from the words, judgments, and hidden schemes of others against us. You hear the whispers, the misunderstandings, and the opposition we face even when we are quiet. Nothing is hidden from Your sight. Instead of holding onto bitterness or trying to defend ourselves, we lay these insults and hurts completely at Your feet. Grant us the grace to guard our own heart and tongue, that we may not sin in our response. Vindicate righteousness in Your perfect timing, and fill our spirit with Your peace and strength. Help us to walk in Matthew 5:44, to love those who may oppose us and to pray for those who mistreat us, trusting that You are our refuge and defender. Restore to us the joy of Your presence and let Your steadfast love renew us day by day, for Your mercies are new every morning as Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
We encourage you to continue to pour out your heart before Him in quiet trust. He who heard Jeremiah hears you now, and He will sustain you, guard your heart, and let His peace which surpasses all understanding keep your heart and mind in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:7.
