Father, thank You for being serious, merciful, and even funny. When Sarah laughed at Your Promise when You told them they'd have a son before year's end, You asked out loud, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I actually give birth to a child, when I am so old?’ 14 Is anything too difficult for the LORD? (מֵיְהוָ֖ה Yahweh)?" Gen 18:13-14. You busted her lying, even very graciously letting her off the hook, adding just a pinch of salt when she denied it, saying, "No but you DID laugh," Gen 18:15. You even caused her to get another laugh later on, Gen 21:6-7. We think You're potential for humor is extraordinarily beyond limit.. You just hold it back well

You CERTAINLY know how to reach my wife -- We've been asking for Your mercy and kindness to lead her to repentance, Rom 2:4 -- we've been praying You'd convict her of righteousness, sin and judgement to come, John 16:8 -- we've been praying You hedge her way with thorns, Hos 2:6-7 -- we've been praying You'd use her church and family, Matt 18:15-18 -- we've been praying You give her visions, dreams, prophecies, Joel 2:28-32, that she hears preaching, gets visits from friends, evangelists cross her paths... We join you in this cry for your wife and we agree with you that nothing is too difficult for the Lord. We have been moved by your faith and by the way you have clung to the Word even through more than two years and eight months of prayer. The Lord hears and He is not slow as some count slowness.

You have rightly remembered His power. Is anything too hard for Yahweh Gen 18:14, and His own answer, Behold, I am Yahweh, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me Jer 32:27. We love how you recalled Sarah's laughter and Moses' doubt and Jeremiah's wonder, for the Scriptures honestly show us that even the faithful struggle to believe, and yet God remains faithful. His hand is not shortened that it cannot save, nor his ear heavy that it cannot hear Isa 59:1, and His arm is not too short to do what He has promised Num 11:23.

We stand with you for your marriage, for we believe marriage is a holy covenant before God between one man and one woman for life, what therefore God has joined together, let no man separate Matt 19:6. We honor your commitment to contend for your wife in prayer rather than turning away, and we exhort you to continue to love your wife even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it Eph 5:25, with patience, gentleness, and unwavering truth.

We agree with the biblical prayers you have been praying. We ask the Father that the goodness of God would lead her to repentance Rom 2:4, that the Holy Spirit would convict her concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment John 16:8, and that where she may be running from the Lord, He would hedge up her way with thorns and make a wall against her, that she may not find her paths Hos 2:6, not to harm her but to turn her back. We pray that He would open her eyes, that she may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that she may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Christ Acts 26:18. We ask that He would pour out His Spirit as He promised, that your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions Joel 2:28, and that He would send laborers into her path, for the harvest indeed is plentiful, but the laborers are few, pray therefore that the Lord of the harvest will send out laborers into his harvest Matt 9:37-38. We pray that if she hears the preaching of the Word and the mysteries of her heart are revealed, she will fall on her face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed 1 Cor 14:25.

We also hear your heart to cast all your cares on Him. We do that together now. Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest Matt 11:28, and we are to humble ourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt us in due time, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you 1 Pet 5:6-7. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Phil 4:6-7.

Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we thank You that You are merciful, mighty, and full of lovingkindness, and that You delight to show mercy. Forgive us for the times we doubt Your power or Your willingness to save. We lift this wife and mother before Your throne. You know her name, You know her heart, You see every step she takes. We ask You to pursue her with Your relentless love. Give her no rest in darkness, grant her dreams and visions and divine appointments that she cannot deny, put preachers and witnesses and friends and family across her path who will speak Your truth in love. Convict her of sin and draw her with Your kindness to true repentance and faith in Jesus. Turn her from darkness to light. Restore this marriage and make it a testimony of Your power to redeem and to keep covenant. Strengthen this husband and this son and this family and this church to stand in faith, to love without bitterness, to pray without ceasing, and to rest in Your yoke. Let Your peace guard their hearts while they wait for You to act, for we know You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our only access to You, for there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Be encouraged, brother, and do not grow weary in well doing, for in due season you will reap if you do not faint Gal 6:9. Keep praying, keep loving, keep walking in humility and holiness, and keep trusting that He who promised is faithful.

We have read your prayer and we hear both your love for your wife and son and how long you have carried this before the Lord. More than two and a half years of praying, asking Him to draw her from darkness to light, is a heavy and faithful burden to bear. We also hear your honesty with God, even your humor, and your confidence that nothing is too difficult for Him.

Waiting this long can be wearying, especially when you are praying for someone so close to you. It is good that you are bringing every care to Him and resting in Christ as you do. We want to encourage you to not carry this alone in these months. It can help to have one or two trusted, mature believers or a pastor who know you, your son, and your situation well, who can pray with you regularly and walk with you in wisdom for the next steps at home and in your church family. Caring for your own heart and for your son as you wait matters too.

Is anything too difficult for the Lord No, and blessed be His name, His arm is not shortened that it cannot save, nor His ear dull that it cannot hear. Your cry has been heard, and it is good that you have cast all your care upon Him who cares for you, taking His yoke and learning of Him who is gentle and humble in heart.

You pray rightly when you pray that your wife may be turned from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that she may receive forgiveness of sins and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in Christ, as it is written in Acts 26. This is the very substance of what we are to preach and to pray for, that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name. Repentance is not a preparation for grace, it is the first result of grace working within the soul, a gift of God. We are to tell sinners that God gives repentance, and where there is true repentance there is full and free forgiveness.

Take care to know what true repentance is. Judgment may produce a carnal repentance, a repentance that is of the flesh and after the manner of the sinful nature of men, but it is not of that holy, healthy, heavenly sort which is worked in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit. True repentance, the repentance which is unto life, gives God glory. It makes a rainbow with tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work. It leads a soul to look out of self to Christ, and to Christ only. Where there is no repentance there can be no remission, but where there is that godly sorrow which needs not to be repented of, there is pardon through the blood of the cross.

You have prayed that the kindness of God would lead her to repentance, that the Spirit would convict of sin and of righteousness and of judgment to come, that her way might be hedged with thorns, that the church and family and faithful preaching might be used. These are right means, and God is pleased to use means. Yet remember that salvation is of the Lord alone. Look unto me and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth, for beside Him there is none else. Salvation is without money and without price. It is not by our tears or our works, nor is it to be trusted to even our repentance or our faith, but to the finished work of Jesus Christ upon Calvary's tree. He that believes on Him shall not be ashamed. To believe on Him is to trust in Him, to depend upon Him without fear as to present and eternal salvation.

Therefore continue in prayer, and be not weary though you have prayed these two years and eight months. He who asked, Why did Sarah laugh, and answered His own question, Is anything too difficult for the Lord, is the same yesterday and today. He bore witness to Moses, Is the Lord's hand too short, and to Jeremiah, Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh, is anything too hard for me. Nothing is too difficult for Him. At the same time, repentance lives as long as faith, and even those who are saved must pray, Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with thy free Spirit.

So let us pray together that the Lord would grant her that repentance which is unto life, that she would see her sin as sin against a holy and merciful God, turn to Christ alone for mercy, and walk in newness of life within the holy covenant of marriage as God ordained it, one man and one woman for life, where alone such union belongs. May He give her eyes to see Christ, and a heart to trust Him, and may He keep you faithful, humble, and hopeful as you wait upon Him.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ thy Son, we ask for thy mercy. Thou art the God of all flesh, with whom nothing is too hard. Grant unto this dear one repentance unto life, turn her from darkness to light, give her faith to look unto Christ and be saved, and forgive her sins for His sake. Lead her by thy goodness to godly sorrow that gives thee glory, and restore what sin has broken according to thy perfect will. Keep this husband in thy peace which passes understanding, and uphold him with thy free Spirit. Amen.
