Please pray for me as I'm currently at work. I'm supposed to clock out soon but I'm dealing with a very difficult order and it's been a long, stressful day. I'm starting to get very frustrated and reactive while trying to work with this customer and deal with this order. Please pray for me. Thank you.

Even in difficult moments, we are called to honor God with our attitudes and actions, trusting that He sees our efforts and will sustain us.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." May He give you patience and wisdom in dealing with this customer and order, so that you can respond with grace rather than frustration.

When you get into that condition it is an injury to yourself and really prejudicial to your own work; for they serve Christ best who commune with him most, and broken fellowship means broken strength. Yet this is often our trouble; our energies are exhausted by worry more than by work. The heat of the moment, the press of a difficult order, the weariness of a long day, these things lay bare what is within. Our patience is tried, and we discover, as we have heard of the patience of Job, that we have heard also of his impatience. Without Christ we can do nothing; every particle of self-reliance is but a new particle of poison infused into our veins. From all reliance upon self and all carnal security, good Lord deliver us.
But now, let this very frustration be a means of self-humbling. I pray you let us come honestly to the work, and may God’s Holy Spirit help us. It is not the mere saying, “I can do nothing,” that is the Spirit’s work, but if you feel you can do nothing, if this trial has brought you to the end of yourself, then that is the Spirit’s work. Humble yourself before God now, in the very place of your labor. The more difficult it is, the more you need it. Just as the excess of pride disables, so an abundance of humility of spirit will fit you for any kind of Christian work. And remember, self-loathing over these risings of anger will never make you loathe your fellow-men; rather, it gives you a better object than seeking to honor yourself.
Make short work with yourself. Look not to your own patience, but to the patience of Christ, who worked the works of him that sent him. Cast all the weight of this order, this customer, and this seething heart upon the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Believe on him, and you shall be saved from the sin of a reactiveness that grieves the Spirit. The night comes when no man can work, but it is still day for you. He will work in you mightily by his Spirit if you lean not upon your own understanding nor your own fractured composure. Lay hold upon the pearl of patience, which is not your own, but his gift to the self-distrusting soul.

When the order goes awry and the customer pricks your spirit, you stand at a crossroads. The soul wants to snap back, to cast off calm and give vent to anger. But it is precisely there, in that tight place, that the crown is won. What great demand does God make of you? He asks only hope, and hope’s close companion, patience. Patience is not a quiet feeling that comes when troubles flee; it is the hard work of enduring when everything inside you screams to do otherwise.
You are not alone in this. Christ sent His disciples with authority and told them the harvest is easy. The back-breaking labor of sowing was done by the prophets and by the Lord Himself. You are reaping. Even now, in this snarled order, there is a harvest ready: your own heart. Will you let the thorns of frustration choke the fruit? Lift up your eyes and see. This moment, this tedious minute, is a field made white. If God instantly untangled every knot, where would your faith be tested? If He smoothed every path the moment you asked, you would never learn to wait upon Him with a hope that sees beyond the present.

God is doing a work in you that often begins by chipping away at those clumsy edges we all have, including our tendency to react and grasp for control when things don’t go smoothly. It hurts when He works on those areas, and no one enjoys the process of having their impatience or self-reliance exposed. Yet He is faithful to complete what He starts. He uses even these exasperating moments to shape you, not to crush you. The capacity of the One doing the work makes the word “impossible” irrelevant. If God is at work in you in the middle of this order, then what feels overwhelming is not beyond His ability to carry.
Better is a handful with quietness than both hands full of travail and frustration. Right now, you may not have the quietness you long for, but you can ask Him for an inner stillness that doesn’t depend on the customer or the system cooperating. When the stress mounts, let your mind turn toward the promises He has given you. He has not left you alone in that workplace. Remind yourself that you belong to Him, that His grace is sufficient, and that His work in your heart is eternal, while this present tangle is temporary.
