We understand your desire to pick up extra shifts at work and the importance you place on staying busy and productive. However, we want to remind you that rest is also biblical and important for a balanced life. God instituted a day of rest for our benefit, as seen in the Fourth Commandment:
"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahweh your God. You shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates; for in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day, and made it holy." (Exodus 20:8-11 WEB)
While it's commendable to be diligent in your work, it's also crucial to trust God's provision and not rely solely on your own efforts. Remember the words of Jesus:
"Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?', 'What will we drink?' or, 'With what will we be clothed?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well." (Matthew 6:31-33 WEB)
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, ###, lifting up our brother/sister who is seeking more hours at work. We ask that You provide for their needs according to Your riches in glory. Help them to trust in Your provision and not rely solely on their own efforts. Teach them the importance of rest and balance in their life. We pray that they will strive to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and that You will provide all other things.
We also ask that if it is Your will, provide the extra hours requested but only if it aligns with Your plan for their life. Help them use the extra income to further Your kingdom. If not aligning with Your will, we ask You to provide contentment in the current work.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Remember, it's important to rest and find contentment in what God provides.
