We lift our hearts in deep gratitude for your earnest desire to grow in the wisdom and revelation of God, to grasp the hope of His calling, to understand the riches of His glorious inheritance, and to experience the surpassing greatness of His power. This passage from Ephesians 1:15-23 is a profound prayer of the apostle Paul, and we join with you in seeking these same blessings from our Heavenly Father.
Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can approach Your throne of grace. We acknowledge that it is only through faith in Your Son, Jesus, that we are saved and have access to You. As it is written, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). We thank You for the gift of salvation, for sending Your Son to die for our sins, and for raising Him from the dead so that we might have eternal life (John 3:16). Without Jesus, we would be lost and without hope in this world.
Lord, we echo Paul’s prayer for a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the true knowledge of You. Open the eyes of our hearts, O God, that we may see You more clearly. Illuminate our minds with Your truth, that we may know You more intimately and walk in closer fellowship with You. "The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding" (Proverbs 9:10). May we grow in reverence and awe of You, for in that wisdom, we find life.
We pray that You would enlighten us to know the hope of Your calling. Help us to understand the purpose You have for each of our lives, that we may walk in it with confidence and joy. "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10). Let us live with the assurance that You have called us to a glorious destiny, one that is secure in Christ.
Father, we ask that You reveal to us the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in the saints. Teach us to value what You value, to treasure the things of Your kingdom above all else. Help us to see that our true riches are found in You, not in the fleeting pleasures or possessions of this world. "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly can’t carry anything out. But having food and clothing, we will be content with that" (1 Timothy 6:6-8). May we store up treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal (Matthew 6:19-20).
We also pray for a deeper understanding of the surpassing greatness of Your power toward us who believe. This is the same power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at Your right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule, authority, power, and dominion. What an incredible truth! That the same power that conquered sin and death now lives in us through the Holy Spirit. "But if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you" (Romans 8:11). Let this truth empower us to live victoriously, to overcome sin, and to walk in the authority You have given us as Your children.
Lord, we recognize that the enemy seeks to blind our minds and keep us from seeing these truths. We rebuke every lie of the devil that would tell us we are unworthy, powerless, or without hope. We stand on Your Word, which declares that we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37). We resist the devil, and he must flee from us (James 4:7). We put on the full armor of God, that we may stand firm against the schemes of the evil one (Ephesians 6:11).
We also acknowledge that our flesh can be a hindrance to walking in the fullness of what You have for us. Help us to crucify our flesh daily, to deny ourselves, and to take up our cross and follow Jesus (Luke 9:23). May we not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds, so that we may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2).
Father, we pray that You would unite us as the body of Christ, that we may encourage one another, build each other up, and spur one another on to love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24). Let us not forsake gathering together, but let us worship You in spirit and in truth, for You are seeking such to worship You (John 4:23-24).
We thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your faithfulness to complete the good work You have begun in us (Philippians 1:6). May we walk in the fullness of Your Spirit, bearing the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). May our lives be a living testimony to Your grace and power, that others may see Your light shining through us and be drawn to You.
In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
