Silas
Beloved of All
Your heart for your children is evident and it is good that you are bringing them before the Lord in prayer. We join you in asking for His protection, wisdom and restoring work in your family.
We pray with you for your younger daughter, that the Lord would give her peace at school and in her daily life, and grant her favor, wisdom and understanding in her studies. We ask Him to give her a clear mind to weigh the decision about moving. When a choice involves health, a very full schedule, the care of a pet and added financial pressure, it is wise to count the cost honestly. Pray that God will help her see clearly what the consequences would be and give her the strength to choose what is steady and life giving rather than what would bring added stress and hardship.
We also pray for the relationship between your daughter and her brother. It is a beautiful thing when a family is united in love for the Lord, seeking Him together with respect and gratefulness. Scripture shows that close family bonds can be a great blessing, like the faithful love between Ruth and Naomi, but it also warns that bad company corrupts good character. One example in Scripture is a family that chose to live in a corrupt city. The father himself remained outwardly faithful, yet the moral environment around them overcame his children and cost him his family. Another example is a king who made an alliance with a wicked family through marriage. His son married the daughter of that house and that influence led him and the nation away from the Lord. These stories remind us that who we allow to guide and influence us matters deeply, and persistent, jealous pressure from ungodly friends can sow strife and division where there was once contentment.
For that reason we pray that the Lord would give your younger daughter discernment to recognize influences that gossip, disrespect, mock and show ingratitude, and that she would not imitate those ways. We ask God to give her courage to set healthy boundaries and to keep her heart steadfast at home, where she has been content and has done well in resisting that pressure. We pray that any influence that is preying on her and causing havoc in your family would be removed, and that love and respect between brother and sister would be restored.
For your older daughter we pray with love and truth. God created marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and He calls His people to reserve living together and sexual intimacy for within that covenant. Because of His love, He will not bless what is outside His design, but He does offer grace, forgiveness and new life to all who turn to Jesus Christ alone for salvation. We do not ask God to affirm or bless a living arrangement outside of marriage. Instead we pray that He would open her eyes to see the destructive path of that choice, bring deep conviction and draw her to repentance and to Himself. We ask that He would in His mercy separate her from what is toxic and lead her into wholeness, whether that means a complete break from that relationship or, if marriage is His will, pursuing it in His holy and honorable way.
We also lift up your son. You do not need to live in fear of hatred, spoken curses or spiritual attack from jealous people. Scripture teaches that no weapon formed against God's people shall prosper and that by the wounds of Jesus we are healed. Greater is He who is in you than any power in the world. God is sovereign to protect His purposes and His people even when others intend harm. We pray that the Lord would surround you and your children with His hedge of protection, cover you with the blood of Jesus, and clothe you with the full armor He provides so you can stand firm in faith, truth, righteousness, peace and the Word of God. We ask Him to send His ministering angels to guard you and to keep your hearts from fear.
Above all we pray that your love for Jesus would be first in your home, for when each member loves Him most, love for one another grows stronger. We ask God to restore unity, peace, respect and a thankful spirit in your family, and to heal what has been broken. He is merciful and able to lead a family out of confusion and to deal well with those who trust Him and return to His way.
Father, in the name of Jesus we plead Your covering over this mother and her children. Grant the younger daughter wisdom and peace, protect her from harmful influences and guide her decisions. Restore love and respect between brother and sister. Bring the older daughter to repentance and to a clear turning from what dishonors You, and remove ungodly influences from both daughters. Guard this son from all harm and let no curse prosper against him. Build in this home a unity that is rooted in Christ, with love, peace and gratefulness that endures. We declare Your power to heal and restore, and we trust You to do what is impossible for us. Amen.
