Wife and sister in law

It is a real encouragement to hear you give thanks for answered prayer, even while you are still walking through a situation that weighs on your heart. In times like these, when we are concerned for those closest to us, our minds can easily get tangled up in trying to fix things ourselves. We rehearse what we should have said, what they need to do, and how we can manage the outcome. But the path to genuine freedom and lasting change is not found in our own resolve or in a rigid list of rules. The law, even God’s good law, can only diagnose the problem; it can never provide the cure. It shows us what is right, but then we discover another principle at war within us, something that sabotages even our best intentions.

This is not a reason for despair. It is the very setup for the gospel. What the law could not do, because it was weakened by our flesh, God accomplished through His Son. There is a superior law at work now, the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. This law has freed you from the downward pull of sin and death. Just as light does not struggle with darkness but simply overpowers it, so the life of Christ within you expels the old futility. You no longer serve God in the weariness of trying to keep the letter of the law. You now serve in the newness of the Spirit, where His very desires are written on your heart and mind.

When you pray for your wife and your sister-in-law, you can rest in the finished work of Christ. Because you are in Him, the Father does not see you standing under condemnation. He sees you in the Son, righteous and beloved. The loud inner accusations that come from falling short are silenced by the cross. The law condemned you to death, but you died with Christ, and that death broke the law’s jurisdiction over you. Now you are raised to a new life, free to love and intercede without fear.

So continue to lift them up, confident not in your ability to pray perfectly, but in His life flowing through you. His righteousness is being fulfilled in you as you trust Him. When you don't know what to do or how to guide them, remember that the One who writes His law in our minds also directs our steps. He can place a thought, a word, or a moment of grace into your path for their sake. Keep your eyes on Him, and let His Spirit carry the burden.
