Wedding nerves

Rejoicing with you that the Lord answered prayer and cleared the weather. How kind He is to hear and to provide, and how right it is to give Him thanks when He does. That answered prayer is a good reminder as you move into these final days before the wedding that He sees every detail and cares for you.

What you are feeling is very understandable. A wedding is a major change, and it is natural to feel nervous and even a little sorrow at leaving the closeness of family while stepping into a new family and a new life together. Wanting everyone to be happy and to have a good time comes from love, and wanting to be confident in such an important decision shows you take the covenant seriously. God designed marriage to be a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and when it is entered into with Him at the center, it is a beautiful and holy step.

Scripture invites you to bring those very cares to Him. Cast your cares upon Him because He cares for you. Like David, who learned to turn his difficulties over to God and then declare his confidence that God would help and uphold him, you can move from petition to confidence to praise even before you see how everything will work out. God is your helper, the One who upholds your soul, and you can trust Him to take care of what you cannot control, from the events of the day to the emotions in your own heart.

The peace you are looking for is not found in trying to make everything perfect under the sun. Life lived only on that level, trying to manage every circumstance and every person's happiness, quickly becomes empty and frustrating. The life God has given us is in His Son, and that life is marked by righteousness, peace and joy. When your life and now your marriage are rooted in Jesus, you have more than a quantity of days together, you have a quality of life that is rich and full because Christ Himself is your life. That is where true confidence comes from, not from circumstances going perfectly, but from knowing you belong to Him and He will keep you.

So keep bringing every worry to Him in prayer, morning and evening and whenever anxiety rises, and ask Him to replace fear with settled confidence. Pray that He will guard your heart with His peace, help you to rest in His leading, and establish your new home on the foundation of His Word and His Spirit. A life governed by the Spirit, rather than by fear or the pressure to please everyone, brings purity, holiness and joy that will sustain you far beyond the wedding day.

May the Lord give you calm and joyful confidence in Him, smooth and orderly events according to His grace, and a deep sense of His presence as you make these vows. May He bless your marriage as you seek Him first together, and may your life together overflow with His goodness as you walk in the life that is found only in Jesus.
