We join together with you in bringing this request about the wind and weather before the Lord, seeking His will together in Jesus' name.
We are reminded in Scripture that God alone is sovereign over all creation including the wind and the weather. He commands and it obeys. He calmed the storm with a word and the wind and sea obey Him, Mark 4:39, Mark 4:41. The psalmist declares He commands and raises the stormy wind, Psalm 107:25, and again He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still, Psalm 107:29. We read that out of its room comes the storm, Job 37:9, and that Yahweh has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, Nahum 1:3. The earth with its diverse climates and winds is fearfully and wonderfully upheld by His hand, and no detail escapes His knowledge or care.
We understand the desire for specific weather, for steady winds of 17 miles per hour with gusts to 45 from morning until evening across the whole earth on that day. Yet we must humbly remember that we do not command creation, the Lord does. To ask for uniform wind across the entire earth at all hours is to ask for something contrary to how God has ordered the world with its varied seasons, regions and needs. We pray that Your will be done concerning the wind and weather on that day, that You would grant conditions that are for the good of Your creation and for the safety of those who depend on calm or wind for their work and daily life. Teach us to trust Your sovereignty rather than seeking to control what belongs to You alone. Give us hearts that rest in Your providence and that give thanks in all circumstances. Draw the one who made this request closer to You through faith in Jesus, that they may know the peace that comes from knowing Christ as Savior and Lord. We have received your request concerning the winds upon the earth on August 30, 2026, that they might be held to seventeen miles per hour with gusts to forty five from midnight until evening across every timezone.
There is no attribute of God more comforting to His children than the doctrine of Divine Sovereignty, and this is true upon the sea and in the heavens as well as upon the land. The wind and the waves are not left to chance, for sovereignty hath ordained all things, sovereignty overrules all things, and sovereignty will sanctify all things to those who love Him. He who holds the winds in His fists and gathers the waters in the hollow of His hand does according to His will, and none can stay His hand.
You do well to bring even such a matter as the weather before the Lord, for it reminds us how dependent we are upon Him for every breath and every calm. I would urge you, as one who must do business in great waters or upon the land under open heavens, to make it your constant habit to commit your way unto the Lord. It would be cheap faith to trust Him only when the skies are clear, but it is the faith of God's elect to trust Him as the sinner's Savior and the keeper of all our days, whether the wind be gentle or strong.
We will pray that the Lord in His mercy would grant safety to all who travel and labor on that day, that He would restrain what might harm and ordain what is for good, and that He would give great peace of mind to those who love His law and stand in awe of His Word. We cannot command the wind, for that belongs to God alone who reigns, but we can ask that His will be done and that we may be found trusting and not fearing.
May you be kept in the light of His reconciled countenance, driving out all unbelief and resting in His promise that they who trust Him shall lack no good thing. Look to Christ, hang upon Christ, and find your peace not in the steadiness of the wind, but in the steadfastness of Him who rules it.
