We hear your cry about feeling surrounded by foes in your neighborhood, workplace, family and even worldwide, with evil tongues and witchcraft and even animals sent against you, and we join with you to seek God's will together in Jesus' name for protection and deliverance.

We must lovingly rebuke and correct the way this request is framed. We understand the pain of feeling attacked and slandered, but we cannot pray for people to be killed, for their blood to be shed like an ocean, or for twelve plagues to destroy them. That desire for personal vengeance does not align with the teaching of Jesus. The plagues on Egypt in Exodus 7:14-24, Exodus 8, Exodus 9, Exodus 10, Exodus 11, Exodus 12 and the judgments in Joshua 11:11 and Genesis 19:24 were sovereign acts of God as Judge over nations, not a model for us to call down death on our neighbors. Scripture says plainly, Vengeance is mine, and I will repay, says the Lord in Romans 12:19 and also in Deuteronomy 32:35. We are commanded, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you in Matthew 5:44 and also in Luke 6:28. We are told not to be overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good in Romans 12:21. God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked but desires that they turn and live in Ezekiel 33:11 and that all should come to repentance in 2 Peter 3:9. Even the imprecatory psalms like Psalm 35 and Psalm 94 leave justice in God's hands, asking Him to contend and to judge righteously, not for us to shed blood.

We also want to help you understand spiritual warfare biblically. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places in Ephesians 6:12. People, even those with evil tongues, are not our ultimate enemy. Witchcraft, sorcery and fetish practices are real and are detestable to the Lord as written in Deuteronomy 18:10, and Exodus 22:18 shows God judges sorcery, but under the new covenant our weapon is not cursing people to death but preaching repentance and putting on the whole armor of God in Ephesians 6:11. Greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world in 1 John 4:4, and No weapon that is formed against you will prevail in Isaiah 54:17. The Lord says, Do not be afraid, for I am with you in Isaiah 41:10, and He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty in Psalm 91:1. Submitting ourselves to God and resisting the devil is what makes him flee in James 4:7. Many natural troubles like rats, cats, dogs, mosquitoes, cockroaches and geckos are part of living in a fallen world and are not always a spiritual attack, though God is still able to protect you from every real curse, for there is no sorcery against Jacob in Numbers 23:23 when we abide in Christ.

We also rejoice that you called on the name of Jesus, for it is only by that name that we have access to the Father. As Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. We encourage you to stay close to Jesus, confessing any hatred or desire for revenge, forgiving as you have been forgiven, and walking in love.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace. We ask You to forgive us where we have harbored hatred and desired the death of those who hurt us, and we ask You to create in us a clean heart. Lord, we ask for Your divine protection over this dear one who feels surrounded. Cover this person under Your wings, let no curse or spell or fetish or magic have any power, and burn up every work of darkness by Your holy fire, rendering it powerless and reduced to dust, not by our hand but by Your Spirit. We pray that every evil tongue that rises in judgment would be shown to be false, and that You would silence slander and gossip in the neighborhood, workplace and family. Where animals or pests cause distress, we ask for Your practical provision and peace in that home.

Lord, we do not ask for the blood of our enemies to be shed, we ask for their souls to be saved. Have mercy on those who may be practicing witchcraft or speaking evil, open their eyes to repent and turn to Jesus and be forgiven. We ask You to fight for us, for the battle is not ours but Yours as in 2 Chronicles 20:15, and we trust You to repay with perfect justice and perfect mercy. Fill this heart with love for enemies, with peace that passes understanding, and with courage, for God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control in 2 Timothy 1:7. Help this beloved one to put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is Your Word, and to pray continually. We declare that You are our refuge and fortress, and we rest in You. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We hear how overwhelmed and on edge you have been feeling, especially at home and with people around you. Feeling like you are surrounded or targeted in this way is exhausting, and we want you to know we are praying for you with care.

We understand you want justice and protection, and it makes sense to bring that ache to God. In our own walk we have learned that while the spiritual battle is real, God invites us to keep our eyes most firmly on Him, His nearness and His keeping power, rather than staying fixed on our foes. That focus brings more peace to our hearts than dwelling on those we fear.

One gentle next step that often helps when thoughts feel so heavy is to share them regularly with one trusted, steady pastor or mature believer in person who knows you, can pray with you face to face, and can walk with you over time. You do not have to carry this alone, and having that ongoing support can help you find rest and clearer perspective day by day.

Father, in Jesus name we bring our friend before You. We ask for Your protection over his home and mind, for quiet and safety where there has been fear, and for wisdom for every relationship that feels strained. Calm his heart, guard his nights and days, and lead him into Your peace and direction. Help him sense You close and faithful as he seeks You. Amen.

Your prayer has been heard, and the distress and fear that prompt it are not hidden from the Lord. The sense of being surrounded by foes, of being troubled in your neighborhood, in your workplace and even in your own household, is a heavy trial, and it is right to bring it to God who alone is our refuge.

Yet the Word of God directs us how we are to pray when we feel beset. Our Lord Jesus Christ himself preached love to our neighbour and forgiveness of our enemies, and we are called both to preach and to practise it. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and He has not given to His children the work of calling down scourges or bloodshed upon others. If God demands the penalty in justice, He himself supplies it in love through the Cross of Christ, and that Cross shows us a better way to pray.

There is forgiveness with God. That truth stands like a hammer to break the gates of despair. However sinful your own life may have been until now, however deep the fear or anger you now feel, there is forgiveness with Him through Jesus Christ His Son, and that forgiveness is complete and everlasting. He not only forgave at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive, for the act of forgiveness is continuous in Christ. It is surprising forgiveness, free grace love, love to the unworthy, love to enemies, love to those who had no life, no strength and no hope apart from Him.

Because there is forgiveness with God for us, we are to seek a living, loving, lasting union with Christ. Between the true believer and Christ there is a living union and a loving union, made sweet because its source is not in ourselves but in love eternal. By this loving union Christ brings us safely through all the temptations of life. When we rest most in Him, we work best and bear fruit unto God. This is God's work, and God's work can stand against all enemies, without our needing to invoke curses or to fear rats or cats or insects or any supposed power of witchcraft or magic. Those things have no power to separate us from the love of Christ, and Christ has already overcome all the powers of darkness.

Scripture therefore teaches us to pray not for the destruction of those who trouble us, but for our own protection, for peace, and for their good. We are to pray, as the psalmist did, that when we are afraid we will trust in God, for trusting and not fearing is the way of faith. It would be cheap faith to take Christ only as the saints Savior, but it is the faith of God's elect to take Him as the sinner's Savior, and that includes praying that sinners, even those we count as foes, might come to know that same mercy.

So let us pray together in a way that honors Christ and seeks His will.

We pray that the Lord would guard you and keep you in perfect peace, that He would deliver you from fear and from all oppression, and that He would give you a living, loving, lasting union with Christ by faith. We ask that He would cleanse you from all sin through the blood of Jesus Christ His dear Son, and that He would teach you to forgive as you have been forgiven, to do good unto all men for His glory and for Christ sake, and to leave all judgment in His righteous hands. We pray that those around you in your neighborhood, among friends and family and in the workplace, may be brought to the knowledge of the truth, that where there is enmity there may be reconciliation, and that no weapon formed against you may prosper, because you are kept in Christ.

If fear returns, go again to the Word and to prayer, seek fellowship with faithful believers who can walk with you, and remember this promise, there is forgiveness with God, and He never gives it and then regrets that He has done so. Trust Him now, believe in Jesus Christ God's Son, and you have forgiveness now, in a moment.

Your request has been heard and I understand the distress and fear you feel from conflict with neighbors, family, friends and coworkers, and the sense that evil is being sent against you. It is right to bring your troubles to God and to seek His protection and deliverance, and He hears those who call on Him through Jesus Christ.

I cannot join you in praying for your foes to be plagued, killed, or for their blood to be shed, or for curses to fall upon them. The Lord Jesus has commanded us to pray for our neighbors and even for our enemies, not against them, and to forgive as we have been forgiven. He said to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, and that if we forgive others, our Father will forgive us, but if we do not forgive, we will not be forgiven. A mouth that has been given the grace to pray and to partake of holy things is to be kept pure, and curses and prayers do not belong together. To ask God not to forgive or to do harm to another brings harm to our own soul and our prayers are not heard when offered with a polluted mouth, for revilers shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Vengeance belongs to the Lord alone. Scripture teaches that Christ sits at the right hand of God until His enemies are put under His feet, and that work is His to accomplish in His time and His way, not ours to call down. Our calling is to be kind and tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as God in Christ forgave us, and to walk in love as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. That love is shown not only in enduring injury but in blessing when we are persecuted.

So let me pray with you in the way Christ taught us:

Father in heaven, I thank You that through Jesus Christ alone there is salvation and refuge from all evil. I thank You that You are sovereign over all creation and that no power of witchcraft or darkness can overcome those who are in Christ. I ask You to guard this dear one from fear and from all harm, to give peace in the neighborhood and in the workplace and in the family, to turn hearts toward reconciliation where there is strife, and to bring conviction and salvation to those who do evil, that they may come to know Your mercy. Help this dear one to forgive as You have forgiven, to bless and not curse, and to rest in Your justice and Your protection. Keep this life pure and steadfast in love, and let every prayer be accompanied with thanksgiving. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.

If these conflicts continue, please seek wise pastoral counsel near you, pursue peace and reconciliation where you are able, and keep entrusting yourself to Christ who overcame the powers of darkness by His cross and resurrection.
