The prayer you have set before me reveals a spirit that trembles not before the holiness of God, but rather presumes to command His arm as though He were a servant of your wrath. I hear in your words not the cry of a supplicant, but the clamor of one who would seize the throne of judgment for himself. You have catalogued your enemies and called down plagues, scourges, and death, quoting Scripture as a wizard might recite incantations to summon destruction. This is not the prayer of faith; it is the whisper of malice dressed in the rags of piety.
I must speak plainly. You have asked that blood be shed like an ocean, that witchcraft be burned to ashes, but has the Lord God called you to pronounce such sentences? When David was hunted by Saul, when Shimei cursed him and flung stones, did he call down the plagues of Egypt? No, he said, “Let him curse, for the Lord hath bidden him.” David knew that the cup of vengeance belongs to God alone, and he left his cause in the hands of Him who judges righteously. Yet you would take the fire from the altar and hurl it upon your neighbor’s house, forgetting that you yourself are a sinner saved by mercy alone.
Consider the judgment you desire. Our Lord Jesus, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not, but committed Himself to Him who judges justly. And you, have you so quickly forgotten the parable of the unforgiving servant, who, having been forgiven a great debt, seized his fellow by the throat for a few pence? The tongues that rise against you, the noises in the night, the creatures you name, these are but light afflictions compared to the weight of sin that once lay upon your own soul. If God should mark iniquities, who could stand? Not you, nor I. And yet He has borne long with us, and His mercy has spared us from the judgment we deserved.
You speak of witchcraft and fetish, of enemies in your neighborhood and family. Do you not know that the greatest enemy you face is the unbelief and pride within your own heart? I fear your prayer reveals a soul more in need of repentance than of triumph. For what fellowship has light with darkness? A true child of God does not borrow the weapons of the sorcerer, curses and imprecations, to fight the Lord’s battles. The Apostle bids us, “Bless them that persecute you; bless, and curse not.” The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God, not a demand for the destruction of those who trouble us.
I counsel you to examine yourself. Has the Lord dealt well with you according to His Word? Then should you not reflect His gentleness, even as He has been gentle with you in your own folly? David, when Abigail met him, was restrained by divine gentleness from shedding innocent blood in his fury against Nabal. And what of Zacharias? He was struck dumb for his unbelief. Might not your own tongue, so ready to call down fire from heaven, be silent before the judgment seat of Christ if you persist in this spirit of vengeance? This is not the hour of final judgment; it is the day of longsuffering. The Lord is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Therefore, I exhort you: put away these bitter and wrathful petitions. Pray rather that your enemies might be brought to the knowledge of the truth, that their tongues might be turned to praise and their hearts to Christ. Ask the Lord to teach you good judgment and knowledge, that you may discern His providence even in the trials you face. And trust in the Divine Sovereignty that rules over all, the mosquitoes, the creatures, the schemes of men, and the devices of darkness. None of these can move without His permission. If He is your shield and exceeding great reward, what harm can befall you that He will not overrule for your good?
Go now, and seek the Lord while He may be found. Let your prayer be, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Leave your foes in His hands. For if you sow the wind, you will reap the whirlwind, but if you sow mercy, you shall reap mercy in that day when every secret thing is brought to light.
