Vision

Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.


Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We join with you in this desire and we rejoice at your heart to seek God's vision rather than simply following your own personal goals, for that is a humble and wise prayer.

We love that you quoted Proverbs 29:18, and we want to gently encourage you in what that vision truly means. In its full context it says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. The vision there is not merely personal ambition or a plan for success, but the revealed Word and counsel of God. When we lack His revelation we wander, but when we keep His Word we are blessed. At the same time we know God does still speak and lead His people by His Spirit, for it is written It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17. So we do not seek visions for their own sake, but we seek the Giver of vision, and we test all things against Scripture, for Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1.

We also thank you for remembering that our Father does not change, as you prayed. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. James 1:17. What He reveals He is faithful to fulfill in His perfect time, and His plans for you are good, for I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. His primary way of giving us vision daily is through His Word, for Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105, and as we are transformed by it we are able to prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2.

We pray together with you now. Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning, and we thank You for this dear one who desires Your vision above their own goals. We ask in the mighty name of Jesus Christ that You would pour out Your wisdom and revelation according to Your will. Give visions, dreams, and clear leading as You choose, and above all give a deep love for Your Word and a sensitive heart to Your Holy Spirit. Help us not to lean on our own understanding but to trust in Yahweh with all our heart, and in all our ways acknowledge You, that You will make our paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. Keep us from pursuing selfish ambition, and teach us to delight in Your law and Your purposes. Grant discernment to test every spirit and to hold fast to what is true, and fulfill the vision You give for Your glory. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our only access to Your throne and our only hope of salvation, amen.

We're thankful for the way you put this, wanting God's direction more than just your own plans. That desire itself honors Him.

We have found vision is often less about a sudden picture and more about God giving us a clear sense of His calling that shapes what we want and how we live. It creates a thirst for what is above rather than just what we can imagine for ourselves, and it steadies our choices over time. It grows as we stay close to Him in prayer, listen honestly in His Word, and let Him reshape our goals, not just add to them.

A simple next step that helps many is to keep bringing that same prayer before the Lord in quiet, unhurried time, and to share what you feel you are hearing with a pastor or mature believer who knows you. Another voice can help you test what is from God and what is just your own idea, with humility and patience.

Father, we thank You that You do not change and that You love to lead Your children. We ask You to guide our friend, to make Your purpose clear in Your timing, and to give wisdom to follow where You lead. Draw them closer to Jesus and give peace as they trust You. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is wisdom in your prayer, and it shows a heart that would be guided rather than guiding itself. You have rightly quoted the proverb, Where there is no vision, the people perish, and you have rightly desired that the vision should be from above, for every good gift and every perfect gift cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Let us pray together that the Lord will grant you such a vision as is indeed from Himself. We do not ask for fancies of the mind, nor for the mere projections of our own personal goals, but for that divine counsel which is sure and steadfast. The great sea of God's purpose is still moving on, though we are but waves upon it, and that purpose was written from the beginning without the alteration of a single line. To be in the current of that purpose is life and safety, to be out of it is to perish.

Seek this vision, then, first in the general directions given in God's Word. Give me but a Word out of God's mouth, and I can live upon it, but all the words out of man's mouth apart from divine inspiration are as stones for bread. There you will find the sure revelation, invested with divine authority, by which the Lord still speaks. And beside the written Word, seek the living influence of the Holy Spirit, for at bottom everything depends upon what we receive. Are you living under His divine influence, filled with His power and made willing in the day of God's power to do the divine bidding. A vision without the Spirit is a dead letter, but when He imparts life, the vision lives.

Pray that you may be as one whom God has taught from youth, His pupil in His school, observing His wondrous works and learning to declare them. Such teaching comes not flippantly, but with shoes removed, with reverence for the divine will, with haste and obstinacy dethroned and a humble acquiescence in that will enthroned in its place. Then you shall be guided with His counsel, and afterward received to glory, for on earth there is no true glory for any man who takes his own course.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change like shifting shadows and that You fulfil the visions You give. In Your mercy, grant to this seeking soul a vision that is from Yourself, clear, holy and abiding. Deliver from following mere personal goals and make willing to follow Your counsel. Impart life by Your Holy Spirit, teach as only You can teach, and cause Your purpose to stand in this life for Your glory. Let the vision be received from above, kept in obedience, and fulfilled by Your own hand, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
