Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.


Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We join you in this desire to seek God's vision for your life rather than merely pursuing your own personal goals, and we thank God for your heart that wants to follow Him.

You quoted Proverbs 29:18, and we love your hunger for revelation. In the World English Bible that verse says, Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint, but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. This reminds us that true vision is not just a personal dream or ambition, but God's revealed will and His Word guiding us, keeping us from wandering aimlessly. We also rejoice with you in the truth you quoted that Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17. Our Father does not change, and what He promises He will fulfill.

We want to encourage you that God still speaks and leads His people. It is written, It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17. Yet we are also taught to test what we see and hear against Scripture, for the Word of God is our sure foundation. We are told, Don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God. 1 John 4:1 and All Scripture is God-breathed and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17. God will never give a vision that contradicts His written Word, and His primary way of giving us vision today is through Scripture illuminated by the Holy Spirit, confirming His will as we walk with Him. Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105.

We also hear your heart to not just follow your own personal goals. That is a godly surrender. We are called to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 and Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2. A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9. True vision from God will always draw us closer to Christ, conform us to His character, and align with His purposes, not merely our comfort or ambition.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow, and that every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand. We thank You for this dear one who longs to see with Your eyes and walk in Your vision rather than following personal goals alone. In Jesus' name we ask that You grant clarity and revelation according to Your will. Pour out Your Spirit and guide by Your Word, give wisdom generously to those who ask, for You give to all liberally and without reproach. James 1:5. Help our friend to delight in Your law and to hear Your voice through Scripture, through prayer, and through the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit. Guard against deception and give discernment to test every vision and impression against Your truth. Make Your path clear, lamp to their feet and light to their path, and fulfill the good work You have begun. We ask that You replace self-directed ambition with a heart fully surrendered to Your good, pleasing and perfect will, and that You would give peace and assurance that You who began a good work will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6. We ask all this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and only Savior, through whom we have access to Your throne. Amen.

We appreciate the way you put this, wanting God's vision instead of just following personal goals. That desire to be led by Him is a good place to be.

We have found it helps to think of vision less as a sudden picture and more as God shaping what we long for and where we are headed. When He gives vision it steadies us, gives us a taste for what matters to Him and helps us walk faithfully day by day, rather than chasing every new idea of our own.

A simple next step that has helped many is to keep a quiet, consistent space to seek Him. Bring your plans to Him honestly in prayer, stay rooted in His Word, and jot down what you sense He is highlighting, whether a burden, an opportunity to serve, or a next faithful step. Then bring those notes to a pastor or trusted mature believer who knows you and can pray with you and help you weigh what you are hearing. That shared wisdom keeps us from leaning only on ourselves.

Father, we thank You that You do not change and that You love to guide Your children. We ask You to gently lead our friend, quiet any pressure to strive, and make Your way clear in Your timing. Shape our friend's desires to Yours and give peace as they follow You step by step. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer reveals a heart that would be led by the Lord rather than by self, and for this we give thanks, for naturally we do not like being guided, but grace works in us a willingness to be guided by divine counsel.

You have quoted Proverbs 29:18, Where there is no vision, the people perish. That vision of which Solomon speaks is not a private dream or an inward impression, but the revealed Word of the Lord, the prophetic revelation without which men cast off restraint. Give me but a Word out of God's mouth, and I can live upon it, but all the words out of man's mouth, apart from Divine Inspiration, must be as unsatisfying food as if men tried to live on stones. What you need, and what we shall pray that God will give you, is not a new revelation, for the canon of Scripture is complete and Christ has been fully set forth as God's witness to His holiness and His love, but an opened eye to see the wonders already written.

Be guided first by the general directions given in God's Word. There you find great principles infused into every man who takes God for his Guide, to avoid everything that is evil and to bow with submission to the will of God. David tells us that he was God's pupil all his life, O God, thou hast taught me from my youth, and he was taught by being made to observe God's work, by object lessons put before him in providence and in Scripture, until he wondered at it and declared His wondrous works. So would we have you be God's pupil, learning to read His work in His Word, sometimes with your pen and sometimes with your voice making known what He has already revealed.

Remember also the comfort of divine sovereignty. There is no attribute more comforting to His children. The great divine sea of His purpose is still moving on, and no single sentence nor single line of that purpose has ever been altered. It is the miracle of miracles that the creature is free, absolutely free, and yet the divine purpose stands. You need not fear that if you miss some secret vision you will perish outside His plan. He who sends from above and draws His people out of many waters is able to effect His own purpose while still you act freely, choosing and willing under His gracious hand.

On earth there is no real glory for us unless we are guided by God's counsel. The promise is sure, Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. That counsel is found in Christ, in whom was no sin, and in whose bleeding hands and feet we read both God's hatred for sin and God's love for sinners, for herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Heavenly Father, Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, we thank Thee that Thou dost not change and that every good gift and every perfect gift cometh down from above. We ask not for new visions to add to Thy finished Word, but for the Spirit to go with the Word, for without Him it is so much wasted breath. Open our brother's eyes to behold wondrous things out of Thy law. Make him Thy pupil, teach him from his youth and through all his days, and make him faithful to declare Thy wondrous works. Guide him with Thy counsel, keep him from following his own personal goals, and establish his steps in the infallible purpose which Thou hast ordained in Christ Jesus. Cleanse him through the blood of Thy dear Son, and afterward receive him to glory. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is the way of salvation, we ask it. Amen.

Prayer Focus: God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for loving me, Jesus. God, I ask You in Jesus’ name please bless me with everything that I stand in need of and everything You want me to have. God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, the way You want me to know You. So that I will trust You with my life and anyway that You move in my life. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps and actions. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about.
