Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.


Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We join with you in this beautiful desire to seek God's vision rather than simply following personal goals, and we thank God for the hunger He has placed in your heart for His direction.

You quoted Proverbs 29:18, which in its fullness says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. This reminds us that true vision is not merely a personal dream or ambition, but divine revelation that comes from God and keeps us anchored in His Word and His law. Without His revelation we wander, but with it we walk in blessing and restraint.

We also rejoice with you in the truth you quoted that Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. James 1:17. How comforting to know that the Father who gives good gifts does not change like shifting shadows, and what He reveals He will also fulfill in His perfect time. Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105. His vision will always illuminate the next step and will never contradict His written Word.

We love your heart to not just follow personal goals, for we know that we are to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. And we are encouraged to not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2. God does still speak and give visions, as He promised It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions. Joel 2:28, which was fulfilled as Peter declared in Acts 2:17. Yet we also gently encourage you to test all that you see and hear against Scripture, to prove all things and hold fast to that which is good, 1 Thessalonians 5:21, and to remember that His primary and sure revelation is already given to us in the Bible. Any true vision from God will align with His character, will exalt Jesus Christ, and will draw you closer to obedience.

So we pray together with you now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation, and that every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand. We thank You for this dear one who longs not for their own plans but for Your vision and Your will. Lord, pour out Your Spirit afresh, grant clarity, wisdom and holy revelation according to Your perfect will. Open the eyes of their heart to see what You are doing and to hear Your voice through Your Word. Help them to wait patiently upon You, to delight in Your law day and night, and to walk in obedience to what You have already revealed. If it pleases You, grant dreams and visions that are from You alone, and give discernment to test them, and courage to obey them. Fulfill the vision You give according to Your purpose, for we know Your plans are for welfare and not for evil, to give a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11. Lead them away from leaning on their own understanding and make their paths straight as they acknowledge You in all their ways. We ask all this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

Thank you for sharing this desire so honestly. We can hear how much you want your life to be shaped by God rather than simply chasing your own plans, and that is a beautiful place to be.

What has helped us is remembering that vision from God is less about waiting for a dramatic picture and more about letting Him shape our direction and desires over time. It is the steady pull toward what He loves, which keeps us from drifting into just following ourselves. That kind of leading often grows as we stay close to Him, listen, and let Him test and refine what is on our hearts.

One simple practice that may help is to set aside a few quiet minutes each day to bring your current goals before the Lord and ask Him to show you which ones line up with His purposes and which ones need to be released or reshaped. Writing down what you sense and then talking it through with a trusted pastor or mature believer can bring clarity and keep you from carrying it alone.

Father, we bring our friend before You in Jesus name. Give wisdom, clear leading, and a heart that delights to follow You. Shape their plans according to Your good will and give peace as they trust You step by step. Amen.

Your longing not to follow merely your own personal goals but to be led of the Lord is itself a token that grace is at work in your heart, for naturally we do not like being guided.

Concerning the text you quote, Where there is no vision, the people perish, the vision there spoken of is not a private ecstasy or a nightly dream, but the revealed counsel and Word of God. Give me but a Word out of God's mouth, and I can live upon it. Where that Word is withheld or despised, the people cast off restraint, but where it is proclaimed and obeyed, there is life and order. What you need, then, is not a new revelation beyond Scripture, but that the Holy Spirit should open your eyes to see and to love the revelation already given.

Be guided, first, by the general directions given in God's Word. There you have precepts and principles which are infused into every man who takes God for his Guide, to avoid everything that is evil and to bow with submission to the Divine will. By that very acquiescence we are furnished with unerring guidance. Haste is the author of much mischief, but he who waits upon the Lord and searches the Scriptures shall hear His counsel.

Remember also the infallibility of God's purpose. The whole was written from the beginning, He knew everything of it, He has never altered a single line of the Divine purpose, and while the creature remains free, absolutely free, yet the Divine purpose stands. Your life is not left to chance. If you are His pupil, He will teach you from your youth and still continue to teach you, chastening but never casting out, putting object lessons before you till you learn to read His work and wonder at it.

Heavenly Father, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, we thank Thee that every good gift cometh down from the Father of lights. Fulfil Thy purpose in this soul according to Thine unchanging counsel. Take Thy child into Thy school and teach him. Give not a fleeting fancy, but give light upon Thy Word, that he may understand Thy counsel and walk therein. Guide him with Thy counsel, and afterward receive him to glory. Let him not lean to his own understanding, but in all his ways acknowledge Thee, and do Thou direct his paths. Grant that he may declare Thy wondrous works, having first seen them with an instructed heart. We ask this not for merit in ourselves, but through the blood of Jesus Christ Thy dear Son, who cleanses from all sin and is the propitiation for our sins.
