Vision

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We are encouraged by your hunger to seek God's vision rather than merely following your own personal goals, and we join with you in prayer for this in Jesus' name.

You quoted Proverbs 29:18, and we love your heart for the Word. In its fullness it says, Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. This shows us that true vision is not just a personal plan or ambition, but God's revealed will and His law. Without His revelation we lose direction and restraint, but when we walk in His truth we are blessed. We also rejoice that you prayed in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved. As it is written, In none other is there salvation, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12.

We thank God with you that He does not change like shifting shadows and that every good and perfect gift comes from Him. As you quoted, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. James 1:17. If God gives a vision, He is faithful to fulfill it in His perfect timing, for the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won’t prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It won’t delay. Habakkuk 2:3. We also remember His promise, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11.

We want to encourage you that God does still speak and give vision, as He promised, It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17. Yet we must always test any vision or leading against the sure revelation of Scripture, which is our primary vision from God, and seek His wisdom daily. We are called to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.

We pray together for you now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variableness nor shadow of turning, and that You give good and perfect gifts to Your children. We lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ and ask that You would pour out Your wisdom and revelation upon them. Grant them a clear vision that comes from Your heart and not from fleshly ambition, that they may walk in Your will and not merely pursue personal goals. Give them discernment to test every vision by Your Word, ears to hear Your voice, and a heart to obey Your law. Fulfill the vision You give in Your perfect timing for Your glory. Lead them and make their paths straight as they trust in You with all their heart. We ask this in Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We appreciated your honest prayer for God's vision instead of just chasing your own goals. That desire to be led rather than to lead yourself is a good place to be, and we are glad to stand with you in it.

We have found vision is less about a dramatic picture and more about a steady calling that shapes everyday choices. It gives a different appetite, a pull toward what honors God rather than just what feels exciting in the moment. Fantasy promises a quick answer, vision invites patient obedience one step at a time.

A simple next step that helps many is to keep bringing that same request before the Lord in quiet, unhurried prayer, and to weigh what you sense against what you know of God's Word and with a mature believer who knows you well. God often clarifies His direction through that steady fellowship with Him and with others. We are praying with you for that ongoing clarity.

Father, we lift our friend to You. Thank You that You do not change and that Your gifts are good. Give clarity where there is uncertainty and gently align their desires with Yours. Help them to recognize Your leading and to walk in it with peace and trust. Lead them day by day and keep them close to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your longing not to follow your own personal goals but to be led by the Lord is itself a gracious work, for naturally we do not like being guided, and it is only by a work of grace upon the heart that a man seeks to be guided by divine counsel.

You have quoted Proverbs 29:18, where there is no vision the people perish. That vision is not a private impression or a nightly dream, but the revealed Word and counsel of God. Give me but a word out of God's mouth and I can live upon it, but all the words out of man's mouth apart from divine inspiration are unsatisfying. Where the Word of the Lord is not preached and obeyed, the people cast off restraint, but where it is heard and kept, there is life and keeping.

What you seek then is not to be found by waiting for a new revelation, for the whole purpose of God was written from the beginning and He has never altered a single line of it. His great sea of purpose is still moving on, and while we are free and responsible, yet His counsel shall stand. The miracle of miracles is that though the creature is free, absolutely free, yet the divine purpose stands. Your comfort is not that you might discover a fresh vision of your own, but that you may be guided by the counsel He has already given and afterward received to glory.

How does He guide His people. First, be guided by the general directions given in God's Word. There you find precepts and principles, avoid everything that is evil, bow with submission to the will of God, and by that very fact you are furnished with unerring guidance. He taught David from his youth, chastening him and schooling him through many struggles, educating his faith, until David could say, O God, thou hast taught me from my youth and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works. So He will make you His pupil, giving you object lessons from His Word and His works in providence, that you may wonder at them and speak of them.

Therefore haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life. Do not run before you are guided. Wait upon the Lord, search the Scriptures, pray for wisdom dressed in robes of love and tenderness to invite you into her arms, and yield your will to His.

We pray for you now that the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning, from whom cometh every good and perfect gift, would not give you a fleeting fancy but would open your eyes to behold wondrous things out of His law, that He would guide you with His counsel, establish your steps according to His Word, keep you from following your own desires, and make you to declare His wondrous works in Christ Jesus, in whose name alone is salvation, for the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. May He fulfill in you all His holy purpose and at the last receive you to glory. Amen.
