Vision

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We join with you in this beautiful desire to seek God's vision for your life rather than simply following your own personal goals, and we thank you for praying in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.

We love your heart to not lean on your own understanding. It is written, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. And we rejoice that you recognize that Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. James 1:17. Our Father indeed does not change like shifting shadows, and He is faithful to fulfill what He has promised.

We want to encourage you in what true biblical vision means. The verse you quoted, Proverbs 29:18, is often quoted as Where there is no vision, the people perish, but in the World English Bible it reads, Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. This shows us that vision is not merely personal ambition or even a mystical experience, but divine revelation, the clear word and direction of God that keeps us from wandering and anchors us in His law and His will. God's vision for us is first revealed through His Word, which is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path. Psalm 119:105.

We do believe God still speaks and leads, and we cling to His promise, It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17. Yet we also know we are not to chase visions themselves, but to seek the Giver of the vision. We are to test what we see and hear, for it is written, Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1. Any true vision from God will never contradict Scripture, will exalt Jesus Christ, and will draw us closer to holiness and obedience.

So we pray together for you now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for this dear one who humbly asks for Your vision and not their own. We ask in Jesus' name that You pour out Your wisdom and revelation upon them. Grant them a heart that hears Your voice clearly through Your Word and by Your Holy Spirit. Give them not just a fleeting image, but a deep and abiding understanding of Your will. Where they have personal goals, we ask that You align them with Your thoughts, for You have said, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. Lead them away from self direction and into Your perfect plan. If it is Your will to give visions and dreams, we ask that You do so with clarity, and give them discernment to test and confirm what is from You. Above all, let Your Word be their vision and their guide. Make their path straight as they acknowledge You in all their ways. We ask that You fulfill what You have spoken over their life in Your perfect timing, for You are faithful. In Jesus' mighty and powerful name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to dwell daily in the Word, to pray and fast, and to seek godly counsel as God reveals His direction step by step. Do not despise the quiet leading of the Spirit or the clear light of Scripture while waiting for a dramatic vision. God often reveals His vision progressively as we walk in obedience. We stand with you, believing God will make His will known to you and give you the grace to follow it with joy.

We appreciate you sharing this longing with us. Wanting God to shape your direction instead of just chasing your own goals is a humble and good place to be, and we are glad to stand with you in it.

We have found it helps to think of vision less as a sudden dramatic picture and more as a growing clarity about how God is calling you to live and serve right now. That kind of clarity often grows slowly as you walk faithfully in the ordinary things in front of you, and it keeps your heart turned toward what matters most rather than getting pulled back into self made plans.

One simple practice that helps many is to keep a short quiet space each day to be still before the Lord, jot down what you sense He is pressing on your heart, and then bring those thoughts to someone wise who knows you and your life for honest feedback. That companionship can help you sort what is lasting from what is just passing enthusiasm.

Father, we bring our friend before You and thank You that You do not change and You are faithful to lead. Give a quiet confidence and a willingness to follow where You lead, day by day, and make the next step clear in Your timing. Draw them closer to You as they seek You. In Jesus name, amen.

There is a gracious and humble desire in your prayer that you might not follow your own personal goals but be led of the Lord, and this very desire is itself a token of a work of grace upon the heart, for naturally we do not like being guided. The heart of man by nature loves its own way, but grace dethrones obstinacy and gives us in its place acquiescence in the divine will, and bowing with submission to the will of God, by that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance.

You have quoted that solemn word, Where there is no vision, the people perish. That vision of which the wise man speaks is not a fleeting picture of the fancy, nor a private revelation to gratify curiosity, but the revealed mind and will of God, the sure word of prophecy, the Law of the Book. Where that is withheld or despised, the people are left to wander. Where it is loved and obeyed, there is life and preservation. It is well to remember that we walk here by faith and not by sight, and dim enough is the vision here, but we shall see Him as He is hereafter. Now the Lord guides His people not by flattering their haste, for haste too is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life, but by wisdom dressed in robes of love and tenderness, inviting us to run into her arms.

The next way of guidance is that there are great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide. Among the rest there are principles like this, avoid everything that is evil. The Lord does not lead His children contrary to His own holy Word. Therefore we are to be attentive to that mind of Christ which is often expressed by the Holy Spirit in divine monitions in our minds, that the Law of the Book may be with us and the Law of the Spirit within us. We need the divine presence, and we are now bid to pause awhile and to seek it prayerfully, that in its matchless power we may go forward successfully. It is not wise to run before the cloud moves, nor to demand of God a sign after our own choosing. I recall a simple but sound answer once given to one who pressed for immediate action upon a pretended revelation, So I will when I get a revelation that I am to do so, but you see the revelation, whatever it is worth, has only come to you and I shall not act till I have one to the same effect. Let us wait upon the Lord, search the Scriptures, and pray for a submissive will more than for a striking vision.

You have thanked God rightly that He does not change like shifting shadows, and that every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the Father of lights with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning. What He purposes He fulfils, and the great divine sea of His purpose is still moving on though we are but waves upon it. He will fulfil the vision which He Himself gives.

Let us pray together for you.

Heavenly Father, we bless Thee that Thou art the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, and that Thou dost fulfil what Thou hast promised. We ask for this Thy child that Thou wouldst grant not haste nor self will, but a heart bowed in submission to Thy will, that by that very submission there may be unerring guidance. Grant the true vision which is Thy revealed Word made plain to the soul by Thy Spirit, that the Law of the Book and the Law of the Spirit within may keep from all evil and lead in the way everlasting. Give not merely personal goals, but Thy own good and perfect gifts from above, and let Thy divine presence go with Thy servant, dissolving difficulties and making the path plain. Keep from following the imaginations of the heart, and cause to hear Thy voice saying, This is the way, walk ye in it. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom alone is salvation, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your desire to be led by God rather than by your own personal goals is right and pleasing to Him, and it is good that you want to submit your plans to Him.

Proverbs 29:18 is often misunderstood. The word translated as vision there does not mean a personal dream or a picture about your future. It means the prophetic revelation of God's word. Where that revelation is absent or neglected, people cast off restraint. The answer to that need is not to seek new visions, but to hold fast to what God has already revealed in Scripture and to obey it.

In Scripture God gave visions and sensible signs for particular reasons and to particular people. One man who was full of faith did not need a vision at first, while others who were dull or who needed to be convinced were given striking signs. The sound of wind and the tongues of fire were not for the apostles themselves but for those present who needed to be convinced, and the dove appeared to point out the Son of God to those who were watching. For those who believe, faith and the sure word of God are sufficient. Signs are for those who do not believe, not the ordinary way God guides those who already trust Him.

For that reason the safest and most biblical way to seek God's will is not to ask for visions, but to ask for wisdom and understanding of His written word. God leads His people today through Scripture made clear by the Holy Spirit, through prayer, through wise counsel, and through His providence. Any impression, dream, or sense of direction should always be tested against Scripture, which does not change and which comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation.

Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows and that every good and perfect gift comes from you. Thank you that you have spoken fully in your Son and in your holy word, and that you give wisdom generously to those who ask. We ask in Jesus name that you give them a deep love for your word, clarity to understand it, and grace to obey it. Keep their mind from confusion and from imaginary phantoms, and keep the eye of their understanding clear and healthy through faith in Jesus Christ, through whom alone is salvation. Turn them from their own plans and establish them in your good will, and help them to walk in faithful obedience day by day. In Jesus mighty and powerful name, amen.
