We join you in this beautiful desire to be led by the Lord and not by your own understanding, and we thank God for your heart that wants His vision above your own personal goals.
We love that you quoted Proverbs 29:18, and we want to gently share the full richness of that verse with you. In truth it says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. The vision spoken of there is not merely a personal dream or ambition, but divine revelation, the Word and will of God revealed to His people. Without His revelation we wander, but when we keep His law and walk in His light we are blessed and kept on the right path. Your prayer is therefore very biblical, to ask God to reveal His will so you do not cast off restraint and follow only what seems right in your own eyes.
We also rejoice with you that our Father does not change like shifting shadows. As it is written Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. James 1:17. If God gives you a vision, He is faithful to fulfill it in His perfect timing, for His gifts are good and perfect and His character never varies. We also remember the promise For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. And we are reminded to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.
We encourage you to continue to seek visions from God while staying firmly rooted in His Word, for His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path. Psalm 119:105. In these last days God has promised It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions. Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17. So we do believe God still speaks through dreams and visions, but we also test every vision against Scripture, for God will never give a vision that contradicts His Word, and we wait patiently for its fulfillment for the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won’t prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It won’t delay. Habakkuk 2:3. We encourage you to seek Him daily in prayer, in the Word, and in quiet listening, and to ask for wisdom, for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. James 1:5.
We pray together with you now.
Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow, and that every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand. We thank You for this dear one who desires Your vision and not merely personal goals. We ask in the mighty name of Jesus that You pour out Your wisdom and revelation upon them. Grant them, according to Your will, visions and dreams that are from Your Holy Spirit, and give them clear discernment to know what is from You and what is not. Help them to test all things against Your Word and to walk in obedience to what You reveal. Lead them away from leaning on their own understanding and make their paths straight as they acknowledge You in all their ways. Fulfill the vision You have for their life in Your perfect timing and for Your glory, that they may walk in the hope and future You have prepared for them. Give them patience to wait, faith to trust, and courage to obey. We ask this in the powerful and precious name of Jesus Christ, our only access to Your throne, amen.
