We stand with you in this deep pain and urgency and we bring your marriage before the Lord together in Jesus' name, for we know how much God honors the covenant of marriage and how deeply betrayal wounds the heart.
We hear your cry for your husband to be turned away completely from this other woman and from any other woman besides you, and for every ungodly tie, image, message and memory to be removed from his life, his phone and his heart. Scripture is clear that marriage is to be held in honor by all, and God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers, Heb 13:4. What God has joined together, let no man separate, Matt 19:6. When a married man pursues another woman, that is adultery, and it is sin against God and against his wife, and it must be repented of and forsaken. We rebuke that sin plainly because it violates God's design for marriage as a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman, and it defiles the marriage bed. Flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Cor 6:18. Husbands are commanded to love their wives even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself up for it, Eph 5:25, not to lust after or pursue other women.
We also understand your desire to decree and declare an immediate end to this. We share your longing for swift deliverance, yet we remember that God alone is sovereign and it is His power and His conviction that brings true and lasting repentance, not our words alone. We do not control another person's will, but we can plead with the Lord who is able to convict, to soften a hardened heart, and to bring a man to his knees in genuine godly sorrow. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. That promise is for your husband if he will turn with a sincere and humble heart.
We pray together for you and for your husband now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we come before Your throne of grace and we lift up this dear sister and her marriage to You. Lord, You see her tears, You are near to those who have a broken heart and You save those who have a crushed spirit, Psalm 34:18. We ask You to have mercy and to intervene by Your mighty power in this marriage. Lord, we pray that You would convict her husband deeply by Your Holy Spirit of his adultery and of every lustful thought, desire and soul tie with this other woman and with any other woman besides his wife. Tear down every ungodly connection and let every chain of lust and attraction be broken. We pray that You would cleanse his mind, his heart, his body and his spirit, and that You would lead him to delete and remove every photograph, video, message, and every trace of that sinful relationship from his phone, his social media and his life, not merely outwardly but from the heart inward, as he is transformed by the renewing of his mind, Rom 12:2. Lord, bring him to full, sincere and genuine repentance before You, with godly sorrow that leads to turning away from sin and turning toward You and toward his covenant wife. Restore to him a love for his wife, a desire for purity, faithfulness and holiness, and guard his eyes and his heart from temptation. We pray that You would heal this sister's heart, guard her from bitterness and despair, help her to trust in You with all her heart and not lean on her own understanding, Prov 3:5-6, and give her peace that surpasses understanding as she waits on You. Lord, we pray for the restoration and protection of this marriage, that what the enemy has meant for destruction You would use for testimony of Your redeeming power, for You hate divorce and You delight in faithfulness, Mal 2:16. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above all names, through whom we have access to the Father, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved and by which we can come to God, John 14:6, Acts 4:12. Amen.
We encourage you to continue to seek the Lord fervently in prayer, to stay in His Word daily, and to seek wise, biblical pastoral counsel to walk with you through this trial. Guard your own heart in purity and in faithfulness to your vows, and do not repay evil for evil but commit your cause to Him who judges righteously. Trust that God sees, God knows, and God is able to do far more than we can ask or think, and whether His answer comes in the moment we desire or in His perfect timing, He is working for the good of those who love Him, Rom 8:28. We will continue to stand with you for your husband's full repentance and for the healing and strengthening of your marriage in Christ.
