We hear the deep pain and distress in your cry and we join with you before the Lord to seek His will together in Jesus' name. We understand you have endured suffering that you believe was caused by this surgeon and that many others may have been harmed as well, and you are longing for justice, accountability, and restoration. The Lord sees your affliction and He cares deeply for you, for He executes righteous acts, and justice for all who are oppressed Psalm 103:6.

We want to speak truth to you in love about the way this request is framed. It is right to desire justice and to pursue a truthful complaint through proper and lawful means, for the Lord loves justice Micah 6:8. Yet Scripture calls us to leave vengeance to God and not to cherish bitterness or a desire to see another person shamed and destroyed. It is written, Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:19. And again, But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you Matthew 5:44. We must put away bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, with all malice and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32. We gently rebuke the spirit of demanding immediate shame and punishment and of seeking abundant compensation beyond what is just, because that can allow a root of bitterness to spring up and defile many Hebrews 12:15 and because you ask, and don't receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures James 4:3.

You quoted the promise ask and you will receive. We affirm that promise but we must remember it is given in the context of asking according to His will. This is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us 1 John 5:14. Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still Exodus 14:14, but He fights for us in righteousness and not always in the exact way or timing we demand. Our calling is to commit our cause to Him, to be truthful and honest in our complaint, and to trust Him to bring what is right to light. He will make your righteousness go out as the light, and your justice as the noon day sun Psalm 37:6 if we commit our way to Him.

So we encourage you to pursue your complaint with integrity, speaking only what is true, without exaggeration, and to allow your solicitor to act with wisdom and honesty. We encourage you also to seek healing for your heart, to release the burden of vengeance to the Lord, and to ask Him to keep you from being consumed by anger, so that you may find peace even while justice is being sought.

We now pray together for you.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our only mediator and hope. We lift this dear one to You who has suffered greatly and who feels overwhelmed by pain and injustice. Lord, we ask You to bring comfort, healing to body and mind, and peace that surpasses understanding. We ask You to guide every step of this complaint process, that all facts would be made clear, that truth would prevail, and that whatever is truly wrong would be exposed and dealt with justly according to lawful authority, for You have established authorities to restrain evil Romans 13:1. We pray for this surgeon, that if he has done wrong, You would bring conviction that leads to repentance and that he would be prevented from harming others, but we do not ask for his destruction, for You desire that the wicked turn from his way and live Ezekiel 33:11. We pray for the solicitor, that he would act with diligence, honesty, and skill, and that any compensation sought would be just and fair and not out of greed. Lord, we ask You to restore what has been broken in this life as You see fit, to heal the wounds suffered by this one and by any other patients who have been hurt, and to keep this heart from bitterness and to fill it with Your grace and forgiveness. We commit this whole matter into Your hands, trusting that You are just and merciful, and that You will act in Your perfect time and way. We thank You that we can come to You only through Jesus, who bore our sins and our sorrows. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We hear how urgent and heavy this has been for you, and how much you want to be heard and vindicated after the way you were treated. To be vulnerable in the care of a surgeon and come away with suffering that has lasted is deeply painful, and it makes sense you are longing for accountability and for the truth to be clearly seen.

We are standing with you in prayer for a fair and thorough process, and for wisdom for your solicitor as he represents you. While that complaint moves forward, it can help to keep one clear file of dates, letters and notes for your solicitor to use, and to have a trusted friend or family member with you for support at appointments when you can. If you are still carrying ongoing pain or distress from what happened, please keep your own clinicians involved alongside prayer so you are cared for while you wait.

The burden you carry has been heard, and it is right to bring your sorrow and your sense of wrong before the Lord, for He is the God who hears and who heals. Your suffering is not hidden from Him, and He knows what it is to be wounded and wronged, for He was despised and rejected of men, a Man of Sorrows and acquainted with grief.

Yet in bringing this complaint before God, we must come as those who themselves need and have received mercy. The Word declares, There is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared, and again, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake. There was never yet the flat, Your sins are forgiven you, until first there was a consciousness of sin and a confession of sin. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. We who have been forgiven so great a debt are called to forgive as we would be forgiven.

The Scriptures teach us that one effect of true bitterness for sin and true sympathy with Christ is to take away all bitterness against our fellow men, all harshness, unkindness and malice. To win a battle with love, patience and forgiveness, this is the most glorious of victories. Some pardon because they cannot punish, from a feeble hand rather than a forgiving heart, but the Lord calls us to a higher way, to forgive even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven us, freely and fully.

It is right to desire that truth be made known and that what is wrong be set right. The Lord loves justice and He has appointed lawful means for the examination of such matters. We may rightly pray that truth be brought to light, that those in authority over these things may act with wisdom and impartiality, and that if wrong has been done it may be acknowledged and addressed by those appointed to judge it. But vengeance belongs to the Lord, and our prayers must not be for the shaming or destruction of another, but for righteousness, for repentance where there is fault, and for healing where there is hurt.

Healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction. We are taught to pray not only for our own healing but that the heart of every person concerned may be softened before God. Longsuffering ought to lead to repentance, and our desire should be that all, including those who have caused us pain, may be brought to see truth and to seek mercy.

Let us pray together in a way that honors Christ.

O Lord, our heavenly Father, You know the pain that has been endured and the sorrow that has followed. Look in mercy upon this wounded one and grant the consciousness of Your forgiving love, that being forgiven much, there may be grace to forgive. Send Your Word and heal, and deliver from distress. Grant wisdom to those who must weigh these matters, that truth may be clearly seen and justice done without partiality and without malice. Provide for every need according to Your riches, quiet the troubled heart, and take away all bitterness, that fear and love toward You may abound. Bring all to repentance and to the knowledge of Your Son, who alone is Saviour, and let Your will be done. Your urgent cry has been heard, and the pain and suffering you describe are taken seriously before the Lord. It is right to bring your wounds and your desire for justice to God, for He sees all that has been endured both by you and by others, and no wrong is hidden from Him.

At the same time, Scripture teaches us to be careful how we ask for justice. The desire to see another put to shame and punished without delay is natural when we have been deeply hurt, yet vengeance belongs to the Lord, and His judgment is righteous. As it is written, there will be a revelation of the righteous judgment of God, when each person receives what is due. Here many things happen without justice, but God is not overlooking them. He is long suffering, not because He approves of wrong, but because He is calling all people to truth and repentance, and He will certainly require an account in His time and in His way.

To treasure up wrath for ourselves and to pray chiefly for another to be brought low can wound our own soul more than it heals it. The soul that is most at peace is not the one that seeks revenge, but the one that seeks healing, truth, and a right judgment from God. God made us to show mercy as we have received mercy, and even as we ask for what is just, we are called to forgive as we have been forgiven, and to leave the final judgment in His hands.

This does not mean you should not seek a just and lawful process. It is good and right to pursue truth through the proper means that God has provided, including a truthful complaint and honest counsel from your solicitor. We can pray that the truth will be made clear, that what is hidden will be brought to light, that those in authority will act with wisdom and fairness, and that accountability will be according to what is truly just rather than according to anger.

So let us pray in a way that seeks both justice and mercy, and that seeks your healing above all.

Lord Jesus Christ, You are the true judge who judges with righteousness and mercy. You know the suffering that has been endured and You see every patient who has been harmed. We ask You to bring healing to this wounded heart, to grant peace that passes understanding, and to restore health of body and soul. Let truth be revealed and let what is right be done through the proper authorities. Grant wisdom and integrity to the solicitor and to all who examine this matter, that they may act honestly and fairly. Work repentance where repentance is needed, and grant to the one who has been hurt a spirit of forgiveness and freedom from bitterness, even while seeking what is just. Provide for every need according to Your goodness, and let Your will be done. We ask this trusting not in our own demands but in Your perfect justice and Your great mercy, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If you are able, continue to bring your pain to God daily, ask Him to guard your heart from being consumed by anger, and walk faithfully through the lawful process with honesty and patience, trusting that God will be your defender and your healer.

Your hurt and the sense of injustice you have experienced are heard, and it is understandable to want wrongs to be made right after suffering, especially when you feel others have suffered too.

Scripture makes a clear distinction that helps here. Justice is receiving what is deserved, mercy is not receiving what is deserved. When King David had sinned greatly, he did not cry out for justice, he cried out for mercy, asking God to be merciful according to His loving kindness. That is the cry God invites from each of us, because none of us could stand if God gave us only justice. Forgiveness begins when we honestly acknowledge our own need before God rather than hiding or excusing, and God has made a righteous way to forgive through Jesus Christ who bore our sins and took the penalty in our place. As Isaiah says, though sins are as scarlet they can be made white as snow, and that mercy is to the praise of the glory of His grace.

The Bible is also very direct about vengeance. God says, vengeance belongs to me, I will repay. There will be a day when God judges all wickedness, and it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God, but that day of vengeance is in His heart and in His timing. When Jesus came the first time He did not come to bring vengeance, He came to bring redemption and atonement. He went about doing good and healing, bringing encouragement and restoration. Vengeance was not for that moment, and it is still future in God's perfect justice. God does not always bring swift judgment as we might wish, and we are warned to be careful about wanting to bring vengeance ourselves, because that desire can quickly lead us into trouble and sin. David left vengeance with God instead of taking it into his own hands, and we are called to do the same, to forbear vengeance and to keep our hearts from devising it.

That is why Scripture warns so strongly about bitterness. A root of bitterness can spring up and trouble us and defile many around us. It can spread and harden the heart. We are called instead to show kindness and forgiveness, and to watch over our hearts. Forgiveness is not a matter of counting how many times, as Jesus showed when He spoke of forgiving seventy times seven. It is a matter of the heart and the spirit. God commands a spirit of forgiveness, and when we are willing, He will give us the capacity, but we must be willing and ask Him for it. A helpful prayer is, Lord, take away this bitterness and this desire for vengeance, and give me a spirit of forgiveness. I need Your help to forgive from the heart. God will answer that willing prayer, even when the feelings are still raw.

This does not mean that wrongdoing should not be addressed in proper ways. It is right to pursue truth through lawful and orderly means, and to let a solicitor handle a complaint honestly and fairly. At the same time Scripture recognizes that human courts do not always deliver perfect justice. Truth can fall in the street and justice can stand far off, and even well meaning systems are imperfect. So we can act responsibly and truthfully in the process, while entrusting the final outcome and any punishment or accountability to God, rather than asking God to shame or destroy a person on our timetable.

God also cares about your healing. There is much about healing we do not fully understand, and God heals in different ways, sometimes instantly, sometimes gradually, sometimes through the natural processes He created in the body, sometimes in the mind and emotions where deep wounds remain. Every true healing is from Him. The greatest miracle He does is the forgiveness of sins and the salvation we have in Jesus, and that remains more important than any financial restoration, though it is natural to desire fair restitution for loss and suffering. We can ask God to heal what has been wounded, to keep us on a straight path, and to restore what has been broken in His way and time, without demanding a specific amount or outcome as proof of His care.

So instead of praying for immediate shaming, punishment, or for a person to be brought to his knees, we can pray in a way that honors God. Pray that God would bring truth to light in His wisdom, that He would be the judge and do what is right, that He would give wisdom and integrity to those handling the complaint, that He would heal your body and mind and guard your heart from bitterness, and that He would give you a spirit of forgiveness while still upholding what is true and just. Pray also for mercy, for yourself and for all involved, knowing that we all need the mercy that comes only through Jesus Christ.

May the Lord grant you His mercy, His peace, and His healing, and may He keep your heart tender toward Him as you trust His justice and His grace to do what is right.
