We hear the deep pain and distress in your cry and we join with you before the Lord to seek His will together in Jesus' name. We understand you have endured suffering that you believe was caused by this surgeon and that many others may have been harmed as well, and you are longing for justice, accountability, and restoration. The Lord sees your affliction and He cares deeply for you, for He executes righteous acts, and justice for all who are oppressed Psalm 103:6.

We want to speak truth to you in love about the way this request is framed. It is right to desire justice and to pursue a truthful complaint through proper and lawful means, for the Lord loves justice Micah 6:8. Yet Scripture calls us to leave vengeance to God and not to cherish bitterness or a desire to see another person shamed and destroyed. It is written, Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:19. And again, But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you Matthew 5:44. We must put away bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, with all malice and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32. We gently rebuke the spirit of demanding immediate shame and punishment and of seeking abundant compensation beyond what is just, because that can allow a root of bitterness to spring up and defile many Hebrews 12:15 and because you ask, and don't receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures James 4:3.

You quoted the promise ask and you will receive. We affirm that promise but we must remember it is given in the context of asking according to His will. This is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us 1 John 5:14. Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still Exodus 14:14, but He fights for us in righteousness and not always in the exact way or timing we demand. Our calling is to commit our cause to Him, to be truthful and honest in our complaint, and to trust Him to bring what is right to light. He will make your righteousness go out as the light, and your justice as the noon day sun Psalm 37:6 if we commit our way to Him.

So we encourage you to pursue your complaint with integrity, speaking only what is true, without exaggeration, and to allow your solicitor to act with wisdom and honesty. We encourage you also to seek healing for your heart, to release the burden of vengeance to the Lord, and to ask Him to keep you from being consumed by anger, so that you may find peace even while justice is being sought.

We now pray together for you.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our only mediator and hope. We lift this dear one to You who has suffered greatly and who feels overwhelmed by pain and injustice. Lord, we ask You to bring comfort, healing to body and mind, and peace that surpasses understanding. We ask You to guide every step of this complaint process, that all facts would be made clear, that truth would prevail, and that whatever is truly wrong would be exposed and dealt with justly according to lawful authority, for You have established authorities to restrain evil Romans 13:1. We pray for this surgeon, that if he has done wrong, You would bring conviction that leads to repentance and that he would be prevented from harming others, but we do not ask for his destruction, for You desire that the wicked turn from his way and live Ezekiel 33:11. We pray for the solicitor, that he would act with diligence, honesty, and skill, and that any compensation sought would be just and fair and not out of greed. Lord, we ask You to restore what has been broken in this life as You see fit, to heal the wounds suffered by this one and by any other patients who have been hurt, and to keep this heart from bitterness and to fill it with Your grace and forgiveness. We commit this whole matter into Your hands, trusting that You are just and merciful, and that You will act in Your perfect time and way. We thank You that we can come to You only through Jesus, who bore our sins and our sorrows. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We hear how urgent and heavy this has been for you, and how much you want to be heard and vindicated after the way you were treated. To be vulnerable in the care of a surgeon and come away with suffering that has lasted is deeply painful, and it makes sense you are longing for accountability and for the truth to be clearly seen.

We are standing with you in prayer for a fair and thorough process, and for wisdom for your solicitor as he represents you. While that complaint moves forward, it can help to keep one clear file of dates, letters and notes for your solicitor to use, and to have a trusted friend or family member with you for support at appointments when you can. If you are still carrying ongoing pain or distress from what happened, please keep your own clinicians involved alongside prayer so you are cared for while you wait.

The burden you carry has been heard, and it is right to bring your sorrow and your sense of wrong before the Lord, for He is the God who hears and who heals. Your suffering is not hidden from Him, and He knows what it is to be wounded and wronged, for He was despised and rejected of men, a Man of Sorrows and acquainted with grief.

Yet in bringing this complaint before God, we must come as those who themselves need and have received mercy. The Word declares, There is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared, and again, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake. There was never yet the flat, Your sins are forgiven you, until first there was a consciousness of sin and a confession of sin. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. We who have been forgiven so great a debt are called to forgive as we would be forgiven.

The Scriptures teach us that one effect of true bitterness for sin and true sympathy with Christ is to take away all bitterness against our fellow men, all harshness, unkindness and malice. To win a battle with love, patience and forgiveness, this is the most glorious of victories. Some pardon because they cannot punish, from a feeble hand rather than a forgiving heart, but the Lord calls us to a higher way, to forgive even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven us, freely and fully.

It is right to desire that truth be made known and that what is wrong be set right. The Lord loves justice and He has appointed lawful means for the examination of such matters. We may rightly pray that truth be brought to light, that those in authority over these things may act with wisdom and impartiality, and that if wrong has been done it may be acknowledged and addressed by those appointed to judge it. But vengeance belongs to the Lord, and our prayers must not be for the shaming or destruction of another, but for righteousness, for repentance where there is fault, and for healing where there is hurt.

Healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction. We are taught to pray not only for our own healing but that the heart of every person concerned may be softened before God. Longsuffering ought to lead to repentance, and our desire should be that all, including those who have caused us pain, may be brought to see truth and to seek mercy.

Let us pray together in a way that honors Christ.

O Lord, our heavenly Father, You know the pain that has been endured and the sorrow that has followed. Look in mercy upon this wounded one and grant the consciousness of Your forgiving love, that being forgiven much, there may be grace to forgive. Send Your Word and heal, and deliver from distress. Grant wisdom to those who must weigh these matters, that truth may be clearly seen and justice done without partiality and without malice. Provide for every need according to Your riches, quiet the troubled heart, and take away all bitterness, that fear and love toward You may abound. Bring all to repentance and to the knowledge of Your Son, who alone is Saviour, and let Your will be done. Restore unto Your child the peace that comes from knowing that sins are forgiven and that You will keep and sanctify and bless those who trust in You, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
