We hear the deep pain and righteous anger in your words, and we stand with you in seeking justice and truth before the Lord. The mistreatment you and others have endured at the hands of this surgeon is unacceptable, and we lift this matter to God with urgency, asking Him to act in His perfect justice and mercy.

First, we must acknowledge that vengeance belongs to the Lord (Romans 12:19, WEB): "Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, ‘Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.’" While your desire for accountability is justified, we must surrender the outcome to Him, trusting that He sees all and will act in His time and way. We pray for His mighty hand to intervene, not only for justice but also for the possibility of repentance and redemption.

We rebuke the spirit of injustice and cruelty that has operated through this surgeon. The Bible is clear that those who misuse their authority or harm others will be held accountable (James 3:1, WEB): "Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment." We pray that God would expose any wrongdoing, bring conviction to this man’s heart, and remove him from a position where he can continue to cause harm. May the Lord arrest his actions, humble him, and lead him to sincere repentance before it is too late.

At the same time, we must also examine our own hearts. While your anger is understandable, we are called to forgive, even as we seek justice (Ephesians 4:31-32, WEB): "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you." This does not mean excusing his behavior, but releasing the burden of bitterness to God so that it does not take root in your own life.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this situation to You. Lord, You see the pain and injustice that has been done, and we ask for Your mighty hand to intervene. Expose any wrongdoing, convict this surgeon of his actions, and bring him to his knees in repentance. If he is unfit to serve in his role, remove him from it, Lord, so that no more harm may come to others. We pray for justice, but we also pray for Your mercy to touch his heart, that he might turn from his ways and seek You.

Father, we ask for healing for all those who have been harmed by his actions. Comfort them, restore what has been broken, and give them peace. Help them to release any bitterness or desire for revenge into Your hands, trusting that You will make all things right. Guard their hearts from hardness, and fill them with Your love and grace.

Lord, we also pray for the systems and institutions that allowed this to happen. Expose any corruption, negligence, or failure to protect the vulnerable. Bring reform and accountability where it is needed, so that others may be spared from similar harm.

We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, the One who judges justly and offers redemption to all who repent. May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your name be glorified. Amen.

Your urgent cry has reached me, and I do not doubt that you have been sorely wounded. If this ### has truly harmed you and others, that is a grave matter, and I do not make light of it. But I cannot pray the prayer you have written, at least not in the spirit in which it is offered. You have asked the Lord to arrest, convict, punish, expose, expel, and sack this man, and to bring him to his knees before God. I hear in your words the anguish of one who has been wronged, but I also hear the voice of wounded pride and a desire for vengeance. That is not the spirit of Christ.

The Lord is just, and His justice is unimpeachable. If this ### has sinned against you and against others, his sin will find him out. But vengeance belongs to God, not to you. It is not yours to command the thunderbolts of heaven, nor to prescribe the exact way in which God should deal with him. You may bring your complaint before the Lord, lay the matter before Him, and ask Him to search out all hidden things. But you may not demand that He use His power to satisfy your own wrath.

Remember that judgments, apart from divine grace, may produce a kind of repentance, but such repentance is not better than the vomit of a dog. A man may be arrested, sacked, exposed, and brought to ruin, and yet his heart may remain as hard as ever. True repentance is the gift of God, not the work of punishment. What this man needs is not simply to be destroyed, but to be saved. If he has done evil, his soul is in far greater danger than his livelihood. I will pray that the Lord will bring him to true repentance, not merely to outward ruin, but to the foot of the cross, where alone his guilt can be washed away.

And I will pray for you, for the wound you carry is real. But let me ask you plainly: are you more grieved that this man has sinned against God and his patients, or that he has hurt you? If the Lord should bring him to repentance and forgive him, would you rejoice, or would you feel cheated of your revenge? Search your heart. The prayer you have sent me is more like the cry of Jonah under the withered gourd than the prayer of Stephen, who said, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.

If this man has broken the laws of the land or violated the trust of his calling, there are lawful means to bring the matter before those who have authority. I do not forbid you to seek justice through proper channels. But let your prayer be this: O Lord, thou knowest all things; bring every hidden deed to light; protect those who are in danger; forgive me my own trespasses as I am helped to forgive those who trespass against me; and if it be thy will, grant this man repentance unto life, for Jesus' sake. I will join you in that prayer, but not in the prayer for his destruction.

The violence of your prayer reveals a wound that is real and deep, and it is right to cry out to the Lord from that place of pain. Yet I must not let you continue in a prayer that asks for punishment rather than for repentance, for that prayer is not the prayer of the Gospel. You ask God to arrest and punish, to sack this surgeon, to bring him to his knees in full sincere repentance. But you ask for two things that cannot be joined in that way. You ask for his ruin and for his repentance. Repentance is not produced by ruin; it is produced by the goodness of God that leads him to repentance. If you truly desire his repentance, pray that God's kindness would break his heart, not that his career be destroyed.

Hear what the Apostle says: God is the righteous Judge, strong and patient. He bears with sinners because he is longsuffering, and thereby would lead them to repentance. If he exacted punishment at once, the whole human race before this would have been swept away, for there is not, there is not indeed, a single day pure from sin. Do you wish to see the surgeon cut off without remedy? Then consider the mercies you yourself have needed every day of your life. The same long-suffering that bears with you also bears with him, granting space for repentance.

Yet do not think that God overlooks wrong. He is just, and he repays according to desert. He does not overlook those who suffer wrongfully, but avenges them. But he does this after death, at the resurrection, because he is powerful and because he is patient. If he were to call us to account daily, none of us would arrive at our twentieth year. Leave the timing to the only Judge who cannot be corrupted.

See how the Apostle puts it: he who remains hard and impenitent treasures up for himself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God. It is not God who judges him, but the man himself who is the author of his own condemnation. So pray that this surgeon does not treasure up wrath, but that he repents. And do not think that mere tears are repentance. Esau sought the blessing with tears and found no place of repentance, because he did not repent as he ought. A true repentance changes the life, not just the outward posture. If you ask God to bring him to his knees, ask that his knees bow in true brokenness and lasting change, not in forced groaning.

Even in your own suffering, remember how Christ mingles mercy with justice. He teaches us, even while we suffer, to show forth great consideration. If you have been treated badly, you have the right to desire justice, but not to desire the maximum punishment. The surgeon may have injured you and many others, but the proper prayer of a follower of Christ is that the man be stopped from doing further harm, brought to true repentance, and restored to the fear of God, even if he must answer for his deeds.

And after prayer thus intense, there is need of much almsgiving. For this is the essential herb in the medicine of repentance. Give alms, and all things shall be clean, says the Scripture. While you wait for God's justice, let your own hands be busy with mercy, lest anger take root in you and poison your own soul. Pray for the surgeon's repentance, pray for your own healing, and commit the judgment to the only One whose justice is full and whose mercy is without end.

Your hurt and your cry have been heard, and it is understandable that you would feel deeply wounded and want wrongs to be made right. God sees how you have been treated and He cares about justice. He is a God of justice and righteousness and He wants what is right to prevail, even when justice seems far off and hard to find through human systems.

Scripture makes a clear distinction that helps us here. Justice is receiving what we deserve, mercy is not receiving what we deserve, and grace is receiving good we do not deserve. When we come to God for ourselves we do not cry for justice, we cry for mercy, as David did when he said have mercy upon me, O God. He did not claim he was good and deserved favor. He acknowledged his transgression openly. There is no forgiveness in justifying ourselves or hiding what is wrong. Forgiveness comes when we confess honestly before God, and He has made a righteous basis to forgive us because Jesus took our sin and its penalty upon Himself on the cross. Though sins are as scarlet, God can make them white as snow, and He abundantly pardons those who come to Him in true confession.

That same truth guides how we pray for others, even those who have harmed us. God has said very clearly, vengeance is mine, I will repay. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God, and no one sins against Him with impunity. There is a day of judgment coming and God will bring vengeance and retribution upon unrepentant sin. But that day of vengeance is in His heart for His appointed time. When Jesus came the first time He did not come to bring vengeance, He came to bring atonement and redemption. The vengeance is still future. God does not always bring justice swiftly, but He will judge truly.

Where we have to be careful is in wanting to take vengeance into our own hands or letting our prayers become a call for personal revenge. That is where we get into trouble and where a root of bitterness can spring up. Bitterness defiles not only our own heart but spreads to many around us. We are told to watch for it and to instead show kindness and forgiveness. Forgiveness is not a matter of counting how many times, it is a matter of the heart and spirit. God commands it and He will give the capacity for it if we are willing, but we must be willing. It is right to pray, Lord, keep my heart from devising vengeance, take away this bitterness, give me a spirit of forgiveness. I want what is right, but I entrust judgment to You.

So I encourage you to place this surgeon and this situation fully into God's hands. It is right to pray that truth would be made known and that any wrongdoing would be exposed and addressed through proper and lawful means, and that those responsible would be brought to honest acknowledgment of what they have done. Above all, pray that he would come to sincere repentance before God, because the greatest miracle is not a professional consequence but the forgiveness of sins and a changed heart. And pray also for your own healing. God brings healing in many ways, gradually and at times instantly, in body, mind and spirit, and He desires to keep you on a straight path and to heal the wounds and scars that have been left. The Lord went about doing good and healing, and He still brings joy, healing and encouragement to those who look to Him.

Let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this pain before You. You see what has happened and You know the truth of all that was done. We ask for Your mercy and grace in this life that has been hurt, bring healing to body and heart, and guard against any root of bitterness. Give a willing heart and a spirit of forgiveness, even while still seeking what is true and right. We entrust all judgment to You, for vengeance belongs to You. Bring to light what needs to be brought to light in Your way and through rightful authority, bring conviction that leads to honest confession and repentance, and grant Your abundant pardon where there is turning to You through Jesus. Keep this heart in Your peace and on Your straight path. Amen.
