Verbal abuse

We hear your cry and we stand with you before the Lord concerning the harassment and verbal abuse you are enduring from your parents. Our hearts grieve that you are experiencing this, and we want you to know that God sees and hears you in this painful place. Verbal abuse is not God's design for the family, and His word speaks clearly that our tongues hold great power for harm or for good. Proverbs 18:21 says Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit. And Ephesians 4:29 says Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. When words are used to harass, demean, or tear down, it is sin and it grieves the Lord.

Scripture also gives a clear instruction to parents. Ephesians 6:4 says You fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. And Colossians 3:21 says Fathers, don’t provoke your children, so that they won’t be discouraged. God calls parents to nurture and encourage, not to crush the spirit of their children. At the same time we are called to honor our father and mother, which can feel very difficult in a situation of ongoing hurt. Honoring does not mean accepting abuse or pretending it is not happening, but it does mean we entrust justice to God and seek to respond in a way that pleases Him.

We are thankful you closed your request IJN, for it is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father and find refuge and deliverance. We cling to the promise in Psalm 34:18 that Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. And we hold to Psalm 27:10 that When my father and my mother forsake me, then Yahweh will take me up. Even when those who should protect us cause pain, the Lord Himself takes us up and shelters us. Psalm 61:2 reminds us From the end of the earth, I will call to you when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

We encourage you to continue to bring this before the Lord honestly, and also to seek wise and safe godly counsel in the body of Christ, whether a pastor or mature believer who can walk with you, pray with you, and help you establish healthy and biblical boundaries. Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Sometimes peace requires distance, clear boundaries, and limiting exposure to ongoing verbal harm while still praying for their repentance. Romans 12:19 also reminds us Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. God will deal with this harassment in His perfect justice and mercy, whether through convicting their hearts unto repentance or through His righteous judgment.

We pray together now for you.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to Your throne of grace. You see every word that has been spoken over them, every wound from harassment and verbal abuse, and You know the weariness of their heart. We ask that You would intervene powerfully in this family. Convict the hearts of these parents where there has been corrupt speech and provoking, bring them to repentance, and teach them to speak words that build up and give grace. We ask that You would put a guard over their mouths and bring healing where there has been harm. Lord, surround Your child with Your protection and peace. Heal the crushed spirit, restore joy, and lead them to the rock that is higher than they are when their heart is overwhelmed. Give wisdom to set boundaries that honor You and protect their heart, and provide trusted godly counsel and community to support them. Help them to forgive as You have forgiven us, while trusting You as the righteous Judge who will deal with all wrongdoing in Your perfect time and way. Fill them with strength and hope, and let them know deeply that they are loved, seen, and held by You. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.

Jesus loves you so much! I used to be abused, I can't remember it so I don't understand you on a personal level. But this reminds me of Joseph the story of the rainbow coat, he suffered in his early life, and became king later in his life.

Pain is temporary, there's a reason why God allows suffering, it grows us!

I am praying for your parents and your safety in the name of Jesus, amen! I am still here to chat if you need more! Don't be afraid to reply, friend!

We are so glad you reached out, and we hear how heavy this has been. Ongoing harassment and verbal abuse from parents can cut deeply and wear down your sense of worth and safety, and it makes sense you are asking God to step in and bring relief. What you are experiencing matters, and your dignity before God is not defined by harsh words spoken over you.

You should not have to carry this alone. If you can, consider letting one safe, trusted person know what is happening, such as a pastor, counselor, or another steady adult who can walk with you and help you think through next steps. It can also help to have a simple plan for what to do if you feel unsafe at home, including where you could go and who you could call. Keeping a brief private note of when incidents happen can make it easier to share clearly if you seek support. A counselor or trusted ministry leader can offer ongoing care alongside prayer.

Father, we lift this person to You and ask for Your protection and peace around them. Guard their heart, give them wisdom and safe support close by, and make a way for this harassment to stop. Help them know they are seen, valued, and not alone, and lead them day by day. In Jesus name, amen.

Your cry concerning the harassment and verbal abuse you have suffered from your parents has been heard, and it is brought before the Lord who is tender to bind up the brokenhearted.

We very speedily care for bodily diseases, for they urge us to seek a physician, but the wounds of harsh words and a troubled home go deeper still. Scripture says, He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. There is a great ill in a broken heart, and there is a great Physician who alone can heal it. The work of Jesus, our heavenly Physician, is not so much to point out disease as to apply the remedy, and Calvary is the place for the healing balm.

You have asked that God would finally deal with this affliction, and we join you in that prayer. The least thing about Christ is healing, for even the leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations. Not only His fruit but His leaves, the little touches of His grace, are full of healing virtue to change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. When the Sun of Righteousness rises upon His people with healing in His wings, pardon and healing come together from His hand.

Let us pray for you.

Our gracious Father, we bring this wounded one before Thy throne of grace in the name of Jesus Christ, Thy Son. Thou seest the harassment and the words that have cut and bruised the heart. Thou art not deaf to such cries. We ask that Thou wouldst in mercy deal with this oppression, that Thou wouldst restrain what is cruel, bring conviction where there is sin, and bring peace where there has been strife. Lay Thy healing hand upon this broken heart and bind up its wounds. Let the healing leaves of Christ be applied, that there may be freshness and wholeness again. Grant wisdom to seek godly counsel and the help of faithful pastors and brethren in the church, that this burden may not be borne alone, and grant protection and a quiet spirit through Christ. If it be Thy will, work also in the hearts of these parents, that they may be turned to speak with kindness and truth. We ask this not by our merit, but through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our healing and our pardon. Amen.

Take heart and keep looking to Christ, and seek the care of wise and godly persons near you who can walk with you and give you counsel and help in this trial. The Lord is near to them that are of a broken heart, and He will not despise your prayer.
