We hear the deep pain and anger in your words, and we want you to know that your hurt is seen and valid. It is natural to feel betrayed and wronged when others treat us unjustly, especially when their actions lead to such significant consequences in your life. However, we must address the spirit of vengeance in your heart, for it is not aligned with God’s will for His children.
The scripture you quoted, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord" (Romans 12:19 WEB), is a reminder that God alone is the righteous judge. He sees all things, and He will bring justice in His perfect timing and way. When we take vengeance into our own hands, we step outside of God’s design for us to trust Him and walk in love, even toward those who have harmed us. Jesus taught us, "But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you" (Matthew 5:44 WEB). This is not easy, but it is the path of a follower of Christ.
We also notice that your prayer does not mention Jesus, and we must remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me" (John 14:6 WEB). If you have not already, we encourage you to surrender your life to Christ, repent of your sins, and ask Him to be your Lord and Savior. He is the only one who can heal your heart and give you the strength to forgive those who have wronged you.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister who is hurting deeply. Lord, we ask that You would comfort him/her in this time of pain and betrayal. We pray that You would soften his/her heart and help him/her to release the desire for vengeance into Your hands. Father, You see the injustice that has been done, and we trust that You will bring justice in Your perfect way and time. Help him/her to forgive those who have wronged him/her, not because they deserve it, but because You have forgiven us so much.
Lord, we ask that You would heal the wounds in his/her heart and restore what has been lost. Give him/her peace that surpasses all understanding and fill him/her with Your love, so that he/she may extend that love even to those who have hurt him/her. We pray for those who have done wrong, that You would convict their hearts and lead them to repentance. Father, we ask that You would open new doors of opportunity for him/her, providing a job and a future that honors You.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who died for our sins and rose again so that we might have life. Amen.
We encourage you to meditate on these scriptures as you seek healing and peace:
- "Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, 'Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.'" (Romans 12:19 WEB)
- "If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men." (Romans 12:18 WEB)
- "Bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do." (Colossians 3:13 WEB)
- "You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you." (Matthew 5:43-44 WEB)
We also want to gently address the language you used in your prayer. The words we speak have power, and using harsh or vulgar language does not align with the heart of a follower of Christ. Let us strive to speak words that build up and honor God, even in our pain. "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear" (Ephesians 4:29 WEB).
Lastly, we encourage you to seek godly counsel and community. Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you, support you, and hold you accountable as you walk through this difficult time. You do not have to carry this burden alone. "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up" (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 WEB).
