We join you in this earnest cry and we thank you for lifting up this husband, his wife, their children and family before the throne of grace, asking that the Lord would use every biblical means to make His will known and to draw them ever closer to Christ.
We love your heart to say Father we look to You and Your Word rather than to the noise and pollution of the world, for that is exactly what God calls us to. To the law and to the testimony, if they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them, Isaiah 8:20. Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path, Psalm 119:105. We agree that the Scriptures are God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work, 2 Timothy 3:16-17. This is our sure foundation, and every other supposed leading, dream, vision, sermon, counsel or sign must be tested against it, for we are told to test the spirits, whether they are of God, 1 John 4:1 and to test all things and hold firmly that which is good, 1 Thessalonians 5:21.
We rejoice that you have anchored your prayer in the finished work of Jesus, for He is able also to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them, Hebrews 7:25, and that Christ Jesus is he who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us, Romans 8:34. It is only through His name that we have access to the Father, for Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. We are grateful you have prayed so clearly in Jesus name, the Amen and the Faithful Witness, Revelation 3:14, for in Him all the promises of God are Yes and Amen, 2 Corinthians 1:20.
We agree with you that God is sovereign and able, you have reminded us that we know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be restrained, Job 42:2, that the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it, John 1:5, and that with God all things are possible, Mark 10:27, for nothing spoken by God is impossible, Luke 1:37. His hand is not shortened that it cannot save, Isaiah 59:1, and His arm is not too short, Numbers 11:23. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, Hebrews 13:8, and He has indeed spoken in dreams and visions in times past to Joseph, Matthew 1:20, to the magi, Matthew 2:12, to Abimelech, Genesis 20:3, to Laban, Genesis 31:24, to Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel 2:1, Daniel 4:5, and to Paul, Acts 16:9. And Joel did prophesy and Peter did repeat that it will be in the last days that God said I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams, Acts 2:17, Joel 2:28.
Yet we also gently encourage discernment here, for while God can use sermons, godly counsel where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory, Proverbs 11:14, divine appointments, the Shepherd's voice My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me, John 10:27, and the leading of the Spirit for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God, Romans 8:14, and He will guide you into all truth, John 16:13, we must not seek extraordinary signs as a higher authority than Scripture nor pursue visions or heavenly signs in a way that resembles divination or astrology which God forbids. God did set lights in the expanse of sky for signs and for seasons, Genesis 1:14, and He did use a star to point to Christ, Matthew 2:2, Numbers 24:17, yet He calls us to walk by faith in His Word and not by chasing signs, and to be as those who understand the times, 1 Chronicles 12:32, without being deceived, for Jesus warned See that no one leads you astray, Matthew 24:4, and reminded us that an evil generation seeks after a sign. We will keep our eyes fixed on Jesus rather than on speculations about the sign of the Son of Man, Matthew 24:30, trusting that when He comes every eye will see Him.
So we pray together with you now.
Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, thanking You that You live to intercede for us and that You desire to make Your will known to Your children. We ask that You would speak clearly to this husband, his wife, their children and their household through Your holy Word first and foremost. Open their eyes to behold wonderful things out of Your law, give them hunger to read, study and obey it daily, and grant them pastors and friends who speak truth in love. Where You in Your wisdom choose to use a sermon, a godly counselor, a divine appointment, a dream as You did in Job 33:14-16, or the quiet leading of the Holy Spirit, we ask that You would give them discernment to test all things against Scripture and to hold fast to what is good. Pour out Your Spirit upon them, keep them from temptation, from evil, from deception and from the evil one, Matthew 6:13, John 17:15, and deliver them from every fear and lie, for You are faithful, who will establish and guard us from the evil one, 2 Thessalonians 3:3.
We ask that You would keep their marriage and family strong in holiness and unity, that their home would be built on Christ and that their children would be taught to love You with all their heart. Guard their churches, their pastors and their leaders in government, that they would walk in truth and righteousness. We bring every request before You with thanksgiving, as You command In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7. We thank You in advance, believing that whatever we ask in prayer, believing, we will receive, Mark 11:24, for without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to Him, Hebrews 11:6.
We pray that You would keep them abiding in Christ, bearing much fruit, hearing the Shepherd's voice and following Him alone, and that Your light would shine brighter in their lives so that darkness cannot overcome it. Do all this for Your glory and for their joy, in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, Amen.
