We hear the burden you carry for your middle daughter and we join with you in bringing her before the Lord together with you, your youngest daughter, and yourself.
We are deeply concerned for your middle daughter in this season of struggling with anger as she tries to quit alcohol. The Word tells us Ephesians 5:18 Dont be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. Drunkenness is not Gods will for His children and it opens the door to many other harms, and we praise God that she is seeking to turn away from it. We pray for her deliverance and for strength to walk in sobriety, for the Holy Spirit to fill her and produce in her the fruit of self control. As it is written Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. We also understand that anger in withdrawal and healing is real, yet Scripture calls us Ephesians 4:26 Be angry, and dont sin. Dont let the sun go down on your wrath and Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. We encourage her to bring that anger honestly to Jesus, to seek godly counsel and support from mature believers and, if needed, trusted help for addiction, and to let the Lord heal the root of that pain day by day.
We must also speak lovingly and firmly about her fiance. You shared that he got her involved with alcohol and has abused her mentally and emotionally. That is not the love Christ models for marriage. Husbands are called to love their wives as Christ loved the church and to nourish and cherish them, not to harm or degrade them. A courtship should be a time of preparing for a lifelong marriage between a man and a woman that honors God, and it should be marked by purity, respect, sobriety and selfless love. If there is sexual immorality outside of marriage, Scripture calls it fornication and calls us to flee from it, for our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit as written in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20. If this man is not a committed believer walking in repentance, we urge you to counsel your daughter not to be unequally yoked as written in 2 Corinthians 6:14. Abuse in any form is sin and should be rebuked. We encourage her to seek wise pastoral counsel and safe, accountable community before moving forward toward marriage, and to require clear evidence of repentance, sobriety, and transformed character over time. Marriage should not be entered into out of fear or pressure, but only where both are seeking to honor Christ and where there is safety and godliness.
We also hear her fear that she will not have a family now because of her age. We understand that longing and the anxiety that comes with waiting. We want to remind her that her worth and future are not defined by age or by this painful relationship, but by the Lord who loves her. As it is written Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. And Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and dont lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. God is able to provide a godly marriage and family in His perfect timing if it is His will, and even when the path looks different than expected, He is near to the brokenhearted as written in Psalm 34:18 Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.
We also join you in praying for protection as you all drive often. We ask the Lord to be your keeper on every road. As it is written Psalm 121:7-8 Yahweh will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forevermore. And Isaiah 41:10 Dont you be afraid, for I am with you. Dont be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
We now pray together.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You, for it is only through Him that we have access to Your throne of grace. We lift up this middle daughter to You. Lord, deliver her from the bondage of alcohol, cleanse her, strengthen her in her mind and body as she walks away from it, and fill her with Your Holy Spirit. Heal her from the wounds of mental and emotional abuse, calm her anger and give her Your peace and self control. Surround her with godly people who will speak truth in love, protect her from further harm, and give her wisdom about her fiance and about marriage. If this relationship is not of You, give her courage to step away and wait for a godly spouse who will love her as Christ loves the church. If there is repentance and true change needed, let it be genuine and proven. Restore her hope for the future and for family, and help her to trust Your timing and Your goodness. We also lift up the youngest daughter and this dear parent who has brought this request. Keep them all safe in their going out and coming in, keep their cars safe and keep them from harm on the roads, place Your angels around them and be their refuge. Draw each of them closer to Jesus, assure them of Your love, and let them know that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and Protector, Amen.
