The heavy heart is invited to look away from the breaking circumstances unto Him who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Our Lord Jesus is the Tree of Life whose very leaves are for healing. Not only the great doctrines of His deity and atonement, but the smallest promise, the gentlest whisper of His love, carries virtue to restore the soul and body. Bring your son to Him in the arms of your faith, as the palsied man was brought, and lay him at the feet of Jesus. The physician's aid is not to be despised, but the Great Physician stands above all, and a single touch from His hand can command the bones to be whole and the swelling to depart. Remember, the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed. He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.
Do not let the tempest of anxious thoughts sweep you away. The peace of God, which passes all understanding, flows to the soul that stays itself upon Jesus. You have trusted Him for your son’s healing; trust Him now for your own spirit’s calm. He knows the thoughts that trouble you, even as He perceived the reasonings of the scribes, and He speaks, “Peace, be still.” The Sun of Righteousness arises with healing in His wings for you as well as for your child. One touch of the hem of His garment, by faith, can quiet the throbbing head and still the trembling heart.
Go now, with your eyes upon the pierced hand, and tell Jesus the whole case, your fears, the pain, the swelling, the tears. He is not a surgeon in haste, but a sympathizing High Priest who is touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He will hear; He will answer. Whether the healing comes in an instant or through the means He appoints, it is well with the soul that leans wholly upon Him. I pray the Lord to give you a token for good, that your son may rise up to walk, and that your own soul may recover its strength in the joy of His salvation. Rest in the wounds of Jesus, for there is pardon for every sin and balm for every woe. Amen.
