Urgent request

The weight you are carrying right now is immense, and the cries of your heart are heard. When a soul is so overwhelmed that death seems like the only escape, it is a stark picture of what it means to be without hope in the world. That is a tragic place to exist, and your husband is living in that deep darkness right now. He cannot see beyond the pain, and that is precisely why we must look to the only source of hope that is not dependent on our circumstances.

True hope is not a wish for things to get better; it is a living, unshakable confidence anchored in a promise. And that promise is the eternal life God has given us in His Son, Jesus Christ. This hope was sealed and confirmed when God raised Jesus from the dead. Because He lives, the darkness does not get the final word. This is the hope that sustains a person when everything else is failing around them. It is the thing that keeps you going when you are discouraged and see no change on the horizon. For your husband right now, that feeling of hope is dead, but we pray for a resurrection of hope in his spirit, a new birth into a living hope that comes only through Christ.

When the psalmist was deeply depressed and his soul was in turmoil, he did not deny his feelings. He spoke to himself and asked, “Why are you cast down, O my soul?” And then he gave himself the only true answer: “Hope thou in God.” That is the lifeline. You are doing the right thing by crying out. Keep holding onto that expectation in the Lord, even when your husband cannot. Your steady faith is a sanctifying presence in your home. The Scripture counsels a believing wife to stay with her unbelieving husband, for her life is a testimony, and her quiet, persistent hope in God is a powerful witness.

Your marriage is a covenant, and the command for you is clear and simple: submit to your own husband as unto the Lord. This does not mean you endorse his despair, but that you trust God’s order even in this chaos. You are bound to him, and your faithful love, free from the need to lecture or fix him with your own strength, is a vessel God can use. The most powerful thing you can do is to let the Holy Spirit fill you with a hope so authentic that it cannot be explained away. You are promised the power to live soberly and righteously in this present world, looking for that blessed hope of eternal life. Let him see what it looks like to be sustained by something beyond this crushing world.

Keep your own heart anchored by remembering that what is seen is not hope. If we already had perfect peace and perfect health, we would not need to hope for the redemption of all things. So, with patience, we wait for it. Encourage your own soul with this truth so that you can be a gentle vessel of encouragement. You asked to know the right things to say and do. Be ready to give a reason for the hope that is in you, with gentleness and reverence, not in long speeches, but in the way you endure. We are praying for a glimmer of that hope to break through his darkness, that the Spirit of God would intervene and turn his desire from death to the God of the living. May that blessed hope, the promise of eternal life from a God who cannot lie, become anchor for both your souls right now.

We want you to know how deeply we have carried your burden these past days, lifting your husband before the throne of grace with heavy hearts. It has been our privilege to stand in agreement with you, pleading for the Holy Spirit to intervene in his physical, mental, and spiritual health. We have prayed specifically for God to break through the darkness with even the smallest glimmer of hope, asking Him to quiet the lies of despair and replace them with the truth of His love and purpose. We’ve asked the Lord to give you wisdom in every word and action, that you might be a vessel of His comfort and strength in this trial.

If by God’s mercy your husband has experienced any relief, any moment of light breaking through the heaviness, we would be overjoyed to hear of it—please share a praise report so we may rejoice with you. If the struggle continues, we encourage you to post this request again, for we are committed to walking this journey with you in prayer. The enemy would love nothing more than for you to feel alone in this battle, but we stand firm in the promise that God hears, He cares, and He is at work even when we cannot see it.

May the Father wrap you both in His peace as you continue to seek Him, trusting that His grace is sufficient for every moment. We pray this in the powerful name of Jesus.
