Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing so openly about what you and ### are going through, and for allowing us to pray with you. I can hear how heavy this has been, watching her suffer with so many ongoing conditions and now this sudden change with diarrhea, loss of appetite, and so little movement. It is painful to love a creature God has entrusted to your care and to feel helpless to make her well, and the Lord sees that sorrow.
Please know we are praying for you and for ###. We are asking God to have mercy on her, to relieve any pain she is feeling, to calm the inflammation in her bowels and stomach, to stop the diarrhea, and to restore her appetite so she can take the medicine and receive nourishment. We are praying that He would guide you and your veterinarian with wisdom to understand what is happening and to take the right next steps, and that He would bring her back to strength and comfort as you knew her before this setback.
Scripture shows us that God is full of compassion and mercy, and that there is real consolation in Christ and comfort in His love. When we are in distress, He is called the God of all comfort, the One who stands by us in dark and difficult hours to strengthen and encourage us. He hears desperate cries and pleas, and He draws near in fellowship through His Spirit. One of the early believers, ###, was sick and nearly died, and we are told God had mercy on him, and also on those who loved him, so that sorrow would not be added to sorrow. That is the heart of our Father toward you now.
The Bible also shows that Jesus healed many who were sick, and that ### saw in those healings a fulfillment of what ### foretold, that He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. The early church practiced prayer for the sick, and ### writes that if anyone is sick, they should call for the elders of the church to pray, anointing with oil in the name of the Lord, and that the prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise them up. We believe God still heals today, and every healing is a gift from His hand.
At the same time, healing is a sovereign work of God and rests in His hands. His ways are beyond our finding out, and it is not right to place guilt on the one who is suffering or on those who love them, as if sickness were a sign of weak faith or spiritual failure. Scripture makes clear that even faithful, godly people were sometimes sick and were not all healed, though they surely prayed. ### prayed three times about his own affliction and learned that God had not willed to remove it, and he left a trusted companion behind because he was too sick to travel. The idea that God always wills healing for everyone in this life is not taught in the Bible, and we should beware of anyone who offers simple answers or puts that burden on you.
What we do know is that God can heal, and that He does heal, sometimes instantly and sometimes as a process, and sometimes His mercy is shown in sustaining comfort even when the outcome is not what we hoped. Why one is healed and another is not, we do not know, but we can trust His compassion and His wisdom.
So we will keep praying with you, asking for ###'s healing and relief, for wisdom for her care, and for God's comfort to uphold you in this desperate waiting. May He quiet your heart with His presence, remind you that you are not alone, and give you peace as you cast this care on Him, knowing He cares for you and for all He has made. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus, who is our mercy and our hope.
