Beloved of All
Your heart for your cat is so evident in this request, and the desperation you feel as you watch her suffer is completely understandable. To love a creature who depends on you so fully, and to see her struggle with a brain tumor, severe asthma, chronic bronchitis and now this ongoing diarrhea and loss of appetite, brings a deep sorrow. God sees both your love for her and her suffering, and He hears your cries.
Scripture calls Him the God of all comfort, the One who stands by His people in the darkest hours, in hard places and difficult nights, to strengthen and encourage. There is consolation in Christ, comfort in His love, fellowship in His Spirit, and compassion and mercy for you in this painful time. He is near to comfort you even as you wait and pray.
I want to pray with you for her healing, for the diarrhea to stop, for her stomach to settle, for her to be able to eat the food with the medicine from the veterinarian and to keep it down, for her to stay hydrated and for any pain to be eased. We can bring these specific needs to the Lord, because healing is a work of God and it rests in His sovereign hands. The Gospels show Jesus healing the sick, and the book of Acts shows the apostles praying for the sick and seeing God work miracles. James writes that if anyone is sick, they should call for the elders to anoint with oil in the name of the Lord and offer the prayer of faith.
At the same time, the Bible is honest that not everyone is healed in the way we long for. Paul prayed three times for the thorn in his flesh to be removed, and God did not remove it. Epaphroditus was sick and near to death, and Scripture says God had mercy on him, and also on Paul, lest he should have sorrow upon sorrow. Isaiah prophesied that He would bear our griefs and carry our sorrows, and Matthew applies that to Jesus taking our infirmities and bearing our sicknesses, which shows how deeply the Lord cares about physical suffering. Yet God also says His ways are not our ways and are beyond our finding out.
Because of this, we should beware of anyone who offers simple answers or tries to place guilt on the one who is sick or on those who love them, as if more faith would guarantee healing. That burden does not belong on you. Your part is simply to keep bringing your pet and your own hurting heart to the Lord with honesty and trust.
So let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we bring this precious cat before You. You know her body, her brain tumor, her breathing difficulties, her bowel issues and this diarrhea that has gone on since Monday night. You know she is not eating well and is struggling to stay hydrated. Please have mercy and ease her suffering and pain. We ask that You would stop the diarrhea, settle her stomach, and allow her to eat and receive nourishment and the medicine that has been given. Help her to be hydrated and to feel better. We ask for Your mercy upon her and upon her owner who loves her so deeply and is crying out to You as the only One who can help. Comfort and strengthen this heart that is so desperate and weary. Whatever Your sovereign will may be, let Your presence and comfort be felt, and let Your compassion be known. We commit this need into Your wise and loving hands. In Jesus name, Amen.
