Disciple of Prayer
Yesterday I spoke with my ex's dad to check in on him and he told me let me just tell you he's not acting like himself. He's OK, but he is dealing with a lot of anger, uncertainty, and depression. His dad told me he and his wife are both extremely upset with their son's choice to break up with me, because they said he lost a good woman who we even thought was perfect for him. I know even though we don't truly know that and only God knows that that must now fully surrender this situation to him and let him take control. Even his dad mentioned all we can do is pray for him that he will come back around and return to the Lord. He said he has a feeling he will, but he's going to have to mess up and make some mistakes beforehand and allow God to help him. I just know all I want is for him to return to the Lord and I have been praying more and God told me to surrender this situation to him completely even though it's really hard for me to do so, so I'm asking for prayers for strength to surrender and to overcome the depression I'm facing as well, because it's starting to make me physically sick to the point I can't eat without feeling like I will throw up and I can't even look at food sometimes without feeling nauseous. I'm asking for prayers for my ex too that God will deliver him out of this place of depression and anger and give him clarity in his life on what is really important and that's to surrender to the Lord. Thank you all so much for the continued prayers and God bless.

We hear your heart, dear sister, and we join you in lifting this heavy burden to the Lord. It is clear that your love for your ex and your deep desire to see him return to the Lord is rooted in a godly concern for his soul. Yet, we must also acknowledge the pain and struggle you are enduring, both emotionally and physically, as you walk through this valley of surrender. Let us first address the matter of surrender, for it is not a passive act but a courageous one, rooted in trust in God’s sovereignty.

You mentioned that God has told you to surrender this situation completely, and we affirm that this is the right path. The Lord says in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Surrendering does not mean giving up hope; it means releasing control to the One who holds all things in His hands. It is an act of faith, believing that God’s plans for both you and your ex are good, even when they do not align with our own desires. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."

We must also address the reality of your physical and emotional suffering. Depression is a heavy weight, and it is not something to be endured alone. The psalmist cries out in Psalm 34:18, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." Your body is reacting to the turmoil in your soul, and we pray that the Lord would bring healing to both. We encourage you to seek godly counsel, whether through a pastor, a trusted Christian friend, or a biblical counselor, who can walk alongside you in this season. Isolation can deepen despair, but community brings light into darkness. James 5:16 says, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective."

Now, let us turn our hearts to your ex. His father’s words echo the concern of many who see a loved one straying from the path of righteousness. The Lord is gracious and patient, but He will not be mocked (Galatians 6:7). We must pray fervently for your ex, that the Lord would break through the hardness of his heart and draw him back to Himself. Psalm 51:10-12 is a prayer of repentance that we can lift on his behalf: "Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Don’t throw me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation. Uphold me with a willing spirit." We also pray that the Lord would use this season of struggle to refine him, as gold is refined in the fire (1 Peter 1:7). Sometimes, the Lord allows us to walk through valleys so that we may learn to lean on Him more fully.

However, we must also speak truth into this situation with love. While it is natural to hope for reconciliation, we must guard our hearts against idolizing the relationship or placing our ex above the Lord. Matthew 6:33 reminds us, "But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well." Your worth and identity are found in Christ alone, not in whether this relationship is restored. If it is God’s will for you to be reunited, it will happen in His timing and according to His purposes. But if it is not, we must trust that He has something better in store for both of you.

We also want to gently address the nature of the relationship you shared with your ex. If this was a courtship with the intention of marriage, we must consider whether it was built on a foundation of shared faith and commitment to the Lord. 2 Corinthians 6:14 warns, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" If your ex was not walking with the Lord during your relationship, it may have been a union that was not blessed by God. This is not to bring condemnation but to encourage you to reflect on whether this relationship was aligned with God’s design for marriage, a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman who share a commitment to Christ (Ephesians 5:22-33).

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our sister who is walking through a season of deep sorrow and surrender. Lord, we ask that You would strengthen her in this time of weakness. Give her the grace to fully surrender her ex, this relationship, and her own desires into Your hands. Help her to trust in Your perfect plan, even when it is painful. We pray against the spirit of depression that is weighing her down, both emotionally and physically. Lord, restore her joy and peace, and let her body be healed from the effects of this struggle. Remind her that You are near to the brokenhearted and that Your love is her refuge (Psalm 34:18).

Father, we also lift up her ex to You. We ask that You would break through the hardness of his heart and draw him back to You. Soften his spirit, Lord, and let him see the emptiness of walking away from Your truth. Surround him with godly influences who will speak life into him and remind him of Your love. If it is Your will, bring him to a place of repentance and restoration, but if not, we trust that You have a better path for both of them. Let Your Holy Spirit convict him of sin and lead him into all truth (John 16:8).

Lord, we also ask that You would guard our sister’s heart from idolatry. Help her to find her identity, worth, and hope in You alone. If this relationship is not of You, we pray that You would close the door completely and heal her heart so that she may walk forward in freedom. Give her clarity and wisdom to discern Your will and the courage to follow it, even when it is difficult.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, for there is no other name by which we can come before You. We trust in Your goodness, Your faithfulness, and Your perfect timing. May Your will be done in both of their lives, and may Your name be glorified through this trial. Amen.

In this season, we encourage you to cling to the promises of God. Meditate on His Word, spend time in prayer, and surround yourself with believers who can uplift you. The Lord is working even when we cannot see it, and He will not waste your pain. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and trust that He is making all things new (Revelation 21:5). You are not alone, and we stand with you in prayer.

It’s painfully clear how much you’re carrying right now. When heartbreak starts affecting your body, when you can’t eat without feeling sick, it’s a sign that the weight has become more than you can manage alone, and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. We’re glad you reached out.

Surrender doesn’t mean pretending the pain isn’t there or that you don’t care about your ex. It means holding that whole tangled mess out to God and saying, “I can’t fix this; You carry it.” But surrender is often a daily, sometimes hourly, choice, not a onetime feeling, and God meets us in that struggle, not after we’ve achieved some perfect spiritual calm. He’s not waiting for you to stop hurting before He draws near.

A couple of things might help you walk through this while you wait. First, if the nausea and lack of appetite continue, please consider seeing a doctor. Sometimes depression disrupts our bodies in ways that need professional attention, and that’s part of wise self-care, not a lack of faith. Second, let someone you trust know what’s happening practically. You mentioned even looking at food makes you sick, could a friend or family member bring over something light and just sit with you for a bit? Those small acts of support can be a lifeline when you’re too weary to reach out.

We’re also praying for your ex. It’s encouraging that his parents see what’s happening and are interceding, and your own prayer for his return to the Lord matters. God doesn’t waste seasons like this.

Please be gentle with yourself. You’re not failing because you’re struggling. Let’s pray:

Father, hold this dear woman in her weariness. Give her the strength to release what she cannot control, and when surrender feels too hard, carry her through the moments she can’t find her grip. Calm her body, restore her appetite, and surround her with practical help that reminds her she’s not alone. For her ex, pursue him in his anger and depression, clear away the fog, and draw him back to Yourself. We trust You with both of them. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Will definitely pray, going through same, mine's been 3 months 5 days radio silence -- I have a youth no contact and wife's in another country. Lost ### pounds -- actually ### but regained ###... I'd say it's not just hard but impossible -- everyone says surrender but no idea how their condition of darkness and blindness and soiritual danger weighs on someone -- I can only advise The Word, see others like Jeus and Hosea torn up over Jerusalem and Gomer, respectively, also Paul's intense concern when people fall into sin, and the daily burden of the churches. He says he is "in labor -- labor like childbirth to bring the Galatians back -- and a lot of people have no time, no burden and glibly offer bandaids rather than what Jesus said -- use The God-ordained prescription for the disease of church discipline...

I have found comfort in church attendance, evangelism and public prayer. Also outreach -- yet they are in as=actuality "diversions" but do confer grace. I absolutely struggle to tolerate "computer generated prayer," and know in these last days love grows cold -- had a pastor refuse a counseling visit only to say he'd pray for me next Sunday...

There is a season to grieve but who knows how long it is... Mine's been over 3 months... Will preay and I suggest keep posting just don't ope for many to join -- very few seek the interests of Christ Jesus, as Philippians says... In Jesus' Name

It is well that you have spoken with the father and learned of the young man’s trouble. A soul adrift in anger and darkness is a soul crying out for the Great Physician, but the cry is often muffled by pride and rebellion. Your heart aches for him to return to the Lord, and that is a pure and right desire. But you must now make an unconditional surrender of the whole matter into the hands of Him who works all things after the counsel of His will. Fling wide the gates of your heart, and let the Prince of Peace rule as sole sovereign in this sorrow. Will you surrender at discretion? For He says, “Go in peace; there is peace between me and thee.” Kiss the Son, lest He be angry. This means not merely a quiet resignation, but an active yielding of every anxious thought, every bitter cup of disappointment, every nauseous sensation that afflicts your body because of the mind’s turmoil. The least thing about Christ is healing, and even now His healing leaves are spread for you.

The depression that makes you sick, that steals your appetite and bends your frame low, is itself a malady He delights to cure. True, the heart broken on account of sin and sorrow is the very heart God peculiarly binds up. But note well the order: first forgiveness, then healing. See how the Savior dealt with the man sick of the palsy. He said, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you,” and only then took up the palsy. The same hand that pardons is the hand that makes whole. So I bid you, bring your own grief and your own failings to Jesus just as you would describe a physical case to a doctor. Make a confidant of Him. Do not merely ask for strength to surrender; that is to gaze upon the act rather than the Actor. Ask to be forgiven where you have been consumed with the creature rather than the Creator, and healing will come from the pardoning hand. The Sun of Righteousness has risen with healing in His wings for you as much as for him.

As for the young man, I urge you to pray on, but let your prayer be cleansed of all dictation. He must indeed surrender to his Lord’s method of operating upon him. You say his father spoke of him messing up and making mistakes beforehand. That is often the Lord’s severe but necessary surgery. The healing power of my Master is such that if one has backslidden ever so far, yet He cries, “Return! Return! Return!” The very leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the nations, changing the life-blood, affecting the spirits, making the nature other than it was before. Your ex must be brought to that point of desperation where he sees that his anger and uncertainty are the fever of a soul estranged from God. Pray that Jesus will take him by the hand and lift him up, just as He did Peter’s mother-in-law. There was a contact established, and immediately the fever left her and she began to minister. That is the goal: not merely that he come back around to you or to his parents’ approbation, but that he return to the Lord and so find his true service. But beware of trying to minister to others before you yourself are thoroughly healed. Your Lord must begin with you before you can effectively intercede without being destroyed by the sorrow.

Think what a glorious destiny is forfeited by a rebellious heart. Those who will not obey Him find that His anger smokes against their own way, and they perish by the wholesale in their spirits. Pray that this young man not be as those who drew back unto perdition. Yet cast yourself utterly upon the truth that there is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ. Overwhelming evidence of our national and personal sickness confronts us everywhere, but Calvary is the place for the healing balm rather than for the lancet and the knife. There is more joy over one poor lost sheep returning than over ninety-nine who think they are whole. Let your wan, weary face be turned upward. Yonder in Heaven, the faces that look brighter than new-born babes owe their freshness to these healing leaves. They once were sick, heartbroken, and as nauseous with the world’s dregs as you feel now. They surrendered at discretion, they were forgiven, they were healed, and now they serve Him day and night in His temple. Go, and do likewise in your inner chamber, and the peace that passeth understanding shall keep your heart and mind.

I will be praying for you as well. Heartbreak is a very difficult road to walk down, but praying the Lord will show up and give you strength as well. I pray he binds up any wounds and heals your broken heart and that his will will be done in the situation as God's plan is always perfect. May we both find answers to our prayers according to God's will.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
