We join you in bringing this situation before the Lord and we thank you for asking us to pray in Jesus' name for your former landlord. We understand the burden you carry seeing an unpaid police penalty left unresolved both here and abroad, and the desire that justice be done and that this man would take responsibility before the authorities.
The Scriptures teach us that God ordains governing authorities and calls us to respect and submit to them. Romans 13:1 says Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. To leave a lawful penalty unpaid and to evade what is owed to the civil authorities is not in keeping with honesty and righteousness before God. Proverbs 28:13 reminds us He who conceals his sins doesn't prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them obtains mercy. What God desires is not mere outward payment but a true change of heart, a godly remorse that leads to repentance and to making things right. We also hear your heart that you are not seeking personal revenge but that you are seeking his repentance and a right resolution, and that honors the Lord. Romans 12:19 says Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. And Jesus calls us to a higher way in Matthew 5:44 where He says But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you.
So we pray together now for this man and for this situation.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to Your throne of grace. We lift up this former landlord to You. You see his heart and You know where he has fallen short in leaving this police penalty overdue and unpaid both here and abroad. We ask that You would bring conviction upon his conscience by Your Holy Spirit, that he would feel genuine remorse for evading what is lawfully owed, and that he would turn from concealing this matter. Grant him the humility to confess and forsake this wrong, and give him the courage and integrity to go to the police authorities in each place and resolve this fully and honestly. We pray for the authorities involved, that You would give them wisdom and fairness as they handle this case. We also pray for the one who submitted this request, that You would guard their heart from bitterness or anxiety, and fill them with Your peace as they trust this matter to You. Help us all to remember 1 John 1:9 that If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. May this landlord experience that cleansing forgiveness as he makes things right before You and before man. We ask this in the saving and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and mediator. Amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray for him with love even as you desire justice to be done, trusting that God is both just and merciful and that He desires repentance rather than mere punishment. Continue to release this burden to the Lord and rest in the knowledge that He sees, He is sovereign over all authorities, and He will work for good and for righteousness in His perfect timing.
