We hear your concern about your friend’s university plans, and we want to address this with both compassion and truth. While it’s understandable to feel anxious or even frustrated about academic pressures, we must be careful about the words we speak, especially when they involve wishing for natural disasters or harm, even in jest. The Bible teaches us in Proverbs 18:21 that "Death and life are in the power of the tongue," and in James 3:10, we’re warned that blessing and cursing should not come from the same mouth. Wishing for an earthquake, something that could bring real suffering, destruction, or even loss of life, is not aligned with God’s heart of love and care for all people.
Instead, let’s bring this situation before the Lord with humility and trust. God is sovereign over all things, including academic schedules, and He works all things together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28). If there is a legitimate need for delay or intervention, we can ask Him to provide wisdom, peace, and a resolution that honors Him. But we must do so with a heart of submission, not manipulation or selfishness.
Let’s pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can approach You and be saved (Acts 4:12). Lord, we lift up this situation with the university and ask for Your wisdom and grace. Forgive us for any words or thoughts that do not align with Your will, and help us to trust You in all things. If there is a need for Your intervention, we ask that You would work in ways that bring glory to Your name and reflect Your love and care for all people. Give us patience, peace, and a heart of gratitude, knowing that You hold our futures in Your hands. We surrender this situation to You, Lord, and ask that Your will be done. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to shift your focus from wishing for disruptive events to seeking God’s peace and provision. If this anxiety is rooted in deeper fears, about failure, the future, or feeling unprepared, bring those to the Lord as well. He invites us to cast all our cares on Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). Trust that He will guide your friend’s steps and provide what is needed in His perfect timing.
If you or your friend are feeling overwhelmed, consider reaching out to a trusted mentor, pastor, or counselor who can offer godly wisdom and support. The Lord often uses His people to bring comfort and clarity in times of stress. Keep your heart open to His leading, and remember that He is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6).
