Unanswered prayers

I hear the ache in your words. When you have turned from sin, cried out for mercy, and done everything you know to do, yet heaven seems silent, it can feel like being abandoned by the very One who made you. But take heart: that silence is not rejection. It is an invitation.

The God you are praying to is the God who hung the world on nothing, who raised Jesus from the dead, and whose power is not hindered by any scheme of man or spirit. If twelve people have looked at what you are selling and no one has paid, that is not a sign that some bewitching force has overcome God’s strength. Nothing is greater than His power. The delay is not a verdict on your worth or a proof that He has turned away. Often, we misinterpret God’s silence. We assume He does not see, does not care, or has forgotten us. Psalm 50 declares that He will not keep silence forever, but for a season He does hold His peace to accomplish something deeper in us.

You confessed your sins and sought His salvation. That very sorrow and turning is evidence that His Word is already working effectually in you, planting faith where there was only despair. The cross of Jesus Christ gives God a righteous basis to forgive every debt, including the ones that weigh on your conscience right now. Grace is greater than all your sin. You are not ignored; you are sealed with His ownership, kept by His power for an inheritance that can never spoil or fade. You are His treasure, not because you have performed perfectly, but because He loves you with an everlasting love.

The period of waiting you are in is where the patience of hope is forged. Your own devotional prayer asked God to grow your faith and trust in Him. That is exactly what He is answering, though it comes through the painful stretching of delay. We so often try to help God out, to force a solution with our own frantic plans, but He is calling you to stop rationalizing limitations onto Him. If He can put a new arm on a man, He can certainly move a heart to buy a phone or rent a house. The difficulty never lies with Him. So the real question is not whether God is able, but whether you will trust His timing and character even when the check is on the way but not yet in your hand.

Stop looking at your failures and start looking at His grace. When you replay the shame and the debt, you are disqualifying yourself from what He wants to do because you are staring at the problem rather than at the Provider. God is looking for someone whose desire is totally toward Him, someone He can use. This trial is keeping you usable, preventing you from slipping back into self-reliance. Walk worthy of the calling you have received. You are a child of the King, and that identity is not up for negotiation when a sale falls through.

Those who do not buy the house or the phone today are not your deliverance; God is. He will work in His own time, and you shall see His hand and glorify His name. Until then, meditate on His testimonies in the night hours, reminding yourself of every promise. He has never failed one word of all His good promises. Your season of shame will not last. He will come and not keep silence. Hold fast to that living hope.
