Faithful Servant
Please pray for me as I have been struggling with something: I really don't feel that I am attractive enough for anyone to want to like me (in terms of romance) or date me. There are many reasons why I'm probably struggling with this including certain things that have happened in my life. I especially have trouble believing that anyone outside of my ethnic community would genuinely like me, find me attractive or want to marry me. Again, this is likely due to things that I have experienced in my life including in terms of racism as a black woman. There is someone in my church (a man my age; I am a woman) who my mom recently started playfully saying she wished could be my husband because of how attentive he seems to faith in Christ. Strangely enough, I feel like yesterday during a church gathering this person kept ending up wherever I was. I don't think anything is going to come of it and everything's probably a coincidence but it all brought up the feelings about myself that I've mentioned. I was crying last night praying to God about it. My entire life I've felt convicted to wait on God for my spouse and now that I actually might be nearing getting married (to whoever God may have for me), it's like I can't fathom that anyone would genuinely want to marry me because I'm not pretty or skinny or looking the way I think I should. Please pray for me about this. Thank you.

We hear your heart, dear sister, and we want you to know that your worth is not defined by the world’s standards of beauty or the hurtful words or actions of others. The pain you carry from past experiences, including racism, is real, and we grieve with you over the ways the enemy has sought to distort your view of yourself. But we declare over you today that you are fearfully and wonderfully made by the Creator of the universe, who knit you together in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:14). Your value is not found in the fleeting opinions of man but in the unchanging love of God, who calls you His own.

We rebuke the lies of the enemy that have whispered you are not enough—lies that say you are not beautiful, not wanted, or not worthy of love. These are not from God. Scripture tells us that "the Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7). Your beauty is not measured by the world’s standards but by the reflection of Christ in you, and that is radiant. We also want to gently remind you that your identity is first and foremost in Christ. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Him, we urge you to do so, for it is only through Jesus that we find our true worth and purpose. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

We pray for healing over the wounds of racism and rejection that have left scars on your heart. Father, we ask that You would pour Your love into every broken place, reminding her that she is chosen, beloved, and precious in Your sight. We pray against the spirit of fear and insecurity that has tried to take root in her mind, and we declare that she is clothed in strength and dignity (Proverbs 31:25). Lord, we ask that You would open her eyes to see herself as You see her—a daughter of the King, worthy of love and honor.

Regarding the man in your church, we encourage you to guard your heart (Proverbs 4:23) and not to dismiss the possibility of God’s hand in this, but also not to place your hope in uncertain circumstances. Whether this man is part of God’s plan for you or not, we pray that you would trust the Lord’s timing and His perfect will for your life. If he is the one, we pray that God would confirm it in His way and in His time, and that you would both be drawn closer to Him through the process. If he is not, we pray that God would prepare your heart for the spouse He has for you, one who will cherish you as Christ cherishes the Church (Ephesians 5:25).

We also want to encourage you to seek godly community and counsel as you navigate these feelings. Surround yourself with believers who will speak truth into your life and remind you of your identity in Christ. Consider studying Scripture on your worth in Him—verses like Isaiah 62:3, which says, "You will also be a crown of beauty in the Lord’s hand, and a royal diadem in your God’s hand." You are not forgotten or overlooked by God. He sees you, He loves you, and He has a plan for your life that includes joy, purpose, and a future with hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

Father, we lift up this sister to You now. We ask that You would break every chain of insecurity, fear, and self-doubt that has held her captive. Fill her with Your peace and assurance, reminding her that she is enough because You are enough. We pray for her future spouse, that You would prepare his heart to love her as You do, and that their marriage would be a reflection of Your love and glory. Give her the strength to wait on You, trusting that Your plans for her are good. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the One who makes all things new. Amen.

Oh sister, we hear your heart's cry and we want to remind you of the truth that's been whispered to you since the beginning of time - you are fearfully and wonderfully made, just as you are. God doesn't make mistakes, and He has a purpose and a plan for you, even in this area of your life.

We know it's hard to see your worth when you've been hurt and rejected, but remember, God sees you. He knows your pain, your struggles, and He loves you deeply. You are His masterpiece, created in His image, and He delights in you.

We pray that God would fill your heart with His love, His peace, and His assurance. That He would remind you of your worth in Him, and help you to see yourself the way He sees you - beautiful, loved, and cherished. We pray that any lies or insecurities would be replaced with the truth of God's word, and that you would walk in confidence and freedom.

Regarding the man in your church, we encourage you to keep your heart open to God's leading, but also to be patient and trust His timing. Whether he's part of God's plan or not, we pray that God would use this situation to draw you closer to Him, and to prepare your heart for the spouse He has for you.

And remember, you're not alone in this. Surround yourself with godly friends who will speak truth into your life, and remind you of your identity in Christ. Trust in Him, and wait on Him. He sees you, He loves you, and He has a plan for your life that includes joy, purpose, and a future with hope.

I felt exactly the same for years and my self-confidence was always low because I was bullied. However, I am happy to say that I have been happily married to a truly wonderful man for 25 years. I felt that he had been sent by God, so never give up hope. Looks help, but having a good heart is better. May Jesus keep you safe!

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
