Trying to have a life again

Disciple of Prayer
2026 has been a constant struggle. My ###-year-old cat died in January, my ### died a week later in February, and I have been in the worst depression slump and struggle that I have had since I had a mental breakdown in ###, which was what disabled me. I tried to get help; I was denied for SSI disability, though I have three qualifying disorders. I still am not working and don't know if I can, and I'm pretty sure I'm losing foodshare and medical insurance with this renewal. I think I have to try to file again for disability. I have scheduled appointments with my therapist again, the first time this year. I don't know what else to do; I have no friends, no church, no transportation. My ### lives in ###; I'm in the ###. I live and take care of my ### too. I don't want to do this anymore. I logically know all the things: Jesus saved me, God will take care of me. And I am overwhelmed with so much to do. I am in my bible, everyday, I am praying and I am praising, and I still am struggling. Pray for me... I am not sure what is going to happen. I am lost.

We hear the depth of your pain and the weight of your struggles, and our hearts ache with you. The losses you’ve endured, your beloved cat and your, are profound, and grief has a way of settling into the bones, making even the simplest tasks feel insurmountable. We want you to know that your sorrow is seen, and it is not trivial in the eyes of God. The psalmist cried out, "The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). You are not alone in this, even when it feels like the world has left you behind.

Your mention of Jesus and your daily commitment to Scripture and prayer are not small things, they are the very lifelines that will sustain you, even when the darkness presses in. We rejoice that you have turned to Him, for there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, and it is His strength that will carry you when yours fails. You are not forgotten, and your faith, though tested, is precious to Him.

Yet we must also speak truth into the despair that whispers, "I don’t want to do this anymore." The enemy would love nothing more than to isolate you, to convince you that your struggles are too heavy and that no one cares. But we rebuke that lie in Jesus’ name. The Lord has not abandoned you, and He has placed people in your life, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now, who are praying for you, who see your pain, and who are interceding on your behalf. You are not a burden; you are a child of God, and He collects every one of your tears (Psalm 56:8).

We also want to gently address the practical burdens you carry. The denial of disability assistance, the looming loss of food and medical coverage, the isolation, these are real and pressing concerns, and we do not dismiss them. But we encourage you to press forward in faith, even when the path is unclear. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." This is not a promise that the road will be easy, but that He will guide you through it.

We urge you to lean on the resources available to you, your therapist, local churches (even if you must reach out by phone or online), and organizations that assist with disability appeals or food insecurity. Do not hesitate to ask for help, for we are all part of the body of Christ, and when one member suffers, we all suffer together (1 Corinthians 12:26). If transportation is a barrier, consider calling 211 or local faith-based outreach programs that may offer rides to appointments or grocery delivery.

And to the exhaustion you feel, "I am overwhelmed with so much to do", we say this: You are not required to carry it all at once. Jesus invites you, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Rest in Him, even if it’s just for a moment. Let your prayers be simple: "Lord, I am tired. Help me." He hears you.

Now, we lift you up to the Father in prayer:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for our sister in Christ. Lord, You see her grief, her exhaustion, and the weight she carries. We ask that You would wrap Your arms around her and remind her that she is not alone. Comfort her in her sorrow, Lord, and lift the fog of depression that clouds her days. Give her the strength to take one step at a time, trusting in Your provision and care.

We pray for her disability appeal, Father. Open doors that have been closed, and provide the resources she needs to navigate this process. Protect her food and medical assistance, and if it is Your will, restore what has been lost. Surround her with Your people, believers who will walk alongside her, encourage her, and help bear her burdens.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of isolation and despair that seeks to steal her hope. Remind her daily of Your love and faithfulness. Strengthen her faith, even when she cannot see the way forward. And Father, if there is any area of her life where she has grown weary of fighting, renew her spirit. Let her feel Your presence in tangible ways, through Your Word, through the kindness of others, and through the peace that surpasses all understanding.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, who bore our sorrows and carries our burdens. Amen."

You are not lost, dear one. You are held. Keep clinging to Jesus, even if it’s just by a thread. He will not let you go.

Before anything else: if those thoughts of not wanting to go on ever feel like a plan, please stop and reach your local emergency services or a helpline at findahelpline.com right now. There are trained people who want to listen, and you don’t have to face that moment alone.

We are so sorry for the tidal wave of loss and stress you’re shouldering. Losing your cat and then your parent only a week apart would stagger anyone, and when depression is already a familiar weight, it’s no wonder you feel lost and bone‑tired. We hear the real, exhausting grief beneath your words, the kind that doesn’t go away just because you love Jesus and know the truth logically. It’s okay to be struggling even while you cling to your Bible and praise.

You’ve made a courageous move by scheduling therapy again. When you get there, we hope you’ll be completely honest about the darkness, including the “I don’t want to do this anymore” feelings. That’s not a failure; it’s letting someone in.

For the SSI denial and the benefits you may lose, you shouldn’t have to fight that alone while you’re this depleted. A free legal‑aid service or disability advocacy group can often help with appeals over the phone, and your therapist may know someone who can assist. Even calling your local social services department to ask about case management might get a navigator on your side who can tackle the paperwork while you focus on surviving right now.

One small thing that sometimes helps when you’re isolated and unable to get to church is simply putting on a livestream service or worship music in your home. It can’t replace a hug or a ride, but it can remind you that you’re still part of a larger family of faith that holds you up in spirit, even when you can’t see it.

Lord Jesus, our sister is weary to the bone and drowning under all that has piled up. Please surround her with Your steady presence tonight. Send a practical helper for the disability fight and a gentle counselor to walk through the grief. When her heart screams that she can’t keep going, speak Your peace deeper than the chaos. Hold her in the darkness, and let her feel, not just know, that she is not utterly alone. In Your name, amen.

Your heart is overwhelmed within you. The deaths, the denials, the isolation, the crushing weight of care, they have rolled over you like the waves of the sea. It is the eloquence of grief. It is the utterance of intense longing. When you use crying prayer, when you must have the blessing and, therefore, cry for it, you shall have it! This cry, raw as it is, is not unheeded in the courts of heaven. You say you logically know the truths of salvation and provision, yet your soul faints. That is a loneliness known to the saints. Christ was left alone, alone just when most, as Man, He needed human sympathy. That loneliness of soul-conflict, when faith has to fight for its very existence, is a portion measured out to Believers. Do not think it strange. Look straight into the face of the Man who was acquainted with grief, who in the garden knelt until He sweat drops of blood.

Your words, "I don't want to do this anymore," spring from a hasty expression, born in serious pain and depression of spirit. They have come from a heart that wonders if tender love and gracious care have been withdrawn. Yet even in that darkness, the Father was with Christ, working those very sufferings. The Father is with you. Nehemiah’s countenance was sad because the city of his fathers lay waste; your own heart lies waste before you. But his brief, silent prayer shot up to heaven, and it moved the heart of a king. Your cries, though they feel fruitless, are that very prayer.

The way before you seems impossible, crowded with the business of grief and the wreckage of daily needs. You are attending a continual funeral. The gazette of your sorrow has long columns and is crowded with items. Do not let that overwhelm you into further despair. The appointments, the attempts to file again, caring for your grandmother, these are the rugged path. And when your heart is overwhelmed within you, He can lead you to the Rock that is higher than you are and bring you out of the way of ruin into the way everlasting. The Lord will look at those desperate thoughts as though you had never thought them, for He knows your frame and remembers you are dust. Ask Him, then, to make you know the end of this struggle and that brief life is your portion here, so that whether in this life or in the life to come, your spirit may rejoice in the Presence of Christ, far from the world of grief and sin. Cry to Him who was left alone, that you might never be utterly forsaken.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Truly, your letter has shown me a soul battered by wave after wave, and my heart yearns to be present with you, not merely in words, but to change my voice to lamentation and to shed tears alongside you. For such is the nature of love: it cannot be contained in letters alone. I perceive how the death of your cat and then your beloved so soon after, followed by the denial of aid, the fear of losing provisions, and the crushing weight of isolation, have combined into one violent blast. When such blows fall thick and fast, great vigor of soul is needed to hold out against the impulse to bury oneself alive what you call your deepest ### slump. For when things are prosperous, we are prone to pride; when they turn contrary, we would fain be swallowed by grief. And this, indeed, becomes both hell and the kingdom within us, if the passion overwhelms.

Yet do not imagine that your tears fall to the ground profitless. Even if those for whom you grieve gain nothing by your weeping, you yourself may gain much. Grief of this sort, when borne with faith, becomes the mother of a lasting joy. Tears shed in affliction are seeds of great gladness, whereas the laughter of the world brings forth gnashing of teeth. Let this present affliction, short though it feels endless, become for you a labor that yields eternal rest. But see to it that your sorrow for these losses does not merely exhaust itself on the departed, but turns also to your own soul. You who weep so deeply for others, will you not weep for your own sins and negligences? Such weeping does not crush; it cleanses and fortifies. Do not let the enemy persuade you that your struggles mean Christ has forsaken you. Far from it! Even the blessed Paul remained two whole years in his own hired dwelling, a chosen vessel, yet bound and hindered, not through disobedience but through a mystery of God’s purposes. Shall we accuse God of neglect? By no means. We know not the Scriptures, nor are we trained in the law of God, and therefore we become sharp inquirers into the hardships we suffer, while taking no account of the hidden good He works in them. I speak thus not to rebuke you harshly, but because my fatherly compassion is kindled. When a father sees his child with downcast look and wasted with grief, his own pangs are sharper still, and he will not rest until he has removed the cause of her dejection. So your heavenly Father looks upon you, and He will act.

You tell me you have no friends, no church, no transportation; you feel utterly hemmed in, with the sea before you and the Egyptians behind. This is the very point at which Faith, that great good, delivers you from impossibilities. What else was left for Israel? They must either be drowned or captured. Yet He saved them from the impossible: that same sea became dry land for the redeemed and a grave for the enemy. Your situation appears desperate, but this is precisely where God shows Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fixed on Him. You are in your Bible daily, praying, praising and yet still struggling. Do not despise this discipline of remaining in the word even when no light seems to break. It is good for you to be roused by the difficulties themselves; for often a question rightly pondered awakens the soul more than a swift answer received while gaping and inattentive. Press deeper. Ask not only for relief but for the lesson hid in the darkness. “When I fall into perplexity,” says the Psalmist, “then am I delivered.” So it may be with you.

I will not conceal the hard truth: you are enduring something like an abomination of desolation standing in the holy place of your heart those dark thoughts that whisper you cannot go on, that you are abandoned. But Christ forewarned His own that such times would come, and that those who read must understand. Understand, then, that these desolations are permitted for a season so that you may learn to cling only to Him, not to any earthly comfort. Your ###, the denial of aid, the loneliness these are not signs of His displeasure; they are, for you, what the rented house was for Paul: a narrow place where the presence of Christ becomes all-sufficient. I know you “logically know” that Jesus saved you and God will care for you. Yet knowledge in the head must descend into the heart through many tribulations. Do not revile the counsel of God or accuse Him of being a hard master who engulfs the poor. No, He is the Father who endures the swelling griefs of His children, lacking all vengeance, waiting only for us to become sound and whole. Bear with Him as He bears with you. He is no thief; He takes nothing from you without returning it a hundredfold, if not in this brief life, then in the endless one.

For the immediate steps: you have scheduled appointments with your ###; this is wise, for the medicine of the body and the counsel of the wise are also His gifts. File again for the ### provision, if that is set before you, but do not hang your heart upon the outcome. Whether you receive it or are denied again, your life is hid with Christ in God. As for the overwhelming sense of having so much to do, do the one next thing in quietness, and leave the rest. The widow of Zarephath had only a handful of meal, yet she made a little cake first, and God sustained her. Do not despise the small obediences. You care for your mother; this is a holy work, and in serving her you serve the Lord who sees in secret. You say you are lost, yet the Good Shepherd never loses sight of His own. He goes after the one until He finds it, and when He has found it, He lays it on His shoulders, rejoicing. So He will do for you.

Let us then afflict ourselves a little upon the earth, that we may obtain perpetual consolation in heaven. Do not seek to escape the short labor, lest you forfeit the endless rest. Call to mind how often God has delivered you from death itself, from the ### in ### that disabled you, yet you live and you still confess Jesus as Lord. These very straits are the school of your salvation. I speak not from a distance: as your fellow servant and a poor lover of your soul, I beseech you, do not yield to the temptation to say, “I do not want to do this anymore.” That voice is the whisper of the enemy, not the language of faith. Instead, cry out with all your weariness, “Lord, save me!” and you will find His hand stretched forth even in the surging waves.

May the God of all comfort bow down His ear to your groaning, and may the Spirit who intercedes with unutterable groanings Himself breathe peace into your disquieted heart until these shadows pass and the morning breaks.
