We have heard your prayer and we join with you in giving thanks to our heavenly Father for His blessings, for His mercies are new every morning and great is His faithfulness. You ask for traveling mercies to and from the hospital to see your son, and you bring silent needs for your family before the throne, and we count it a privilege to bring these petitions with you to the Lord Jesus Christ, through whom alone every mercy comes to us and bears the mark of the Redeemer's blood upon it.
You do well to ask for keeping upon the road, for the Scripture declares that He shall give His angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways. He who travels on the King's highway is under the King's protection. When we go in the appointed ways of duty and mercy, such as to visit the afflicted and to show love to our own household, we may expect that perpetual and personal protection which the Lord has promised to those who walk in His ways. We pray that the Lord will keep your going out and your coming in, that He will guard you from danger and uphold you by His providence on every journey to the hospital and on your return.
That hospital itself reminds us that Christ has His own hospital, where He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds. There never was a patient of His who was turned away as incurable, for He is able to save to the uttermost. We pray for your son, that the Great Physician would lay His healing hand upon him according to His wise and loving will, and that He would give comfort and strength to you as you watch and wait beside him. May you know the sure mercies of David, which are the sure mercies of Jesus, that in Him there is salvation and cleansing and help for all our helplessness, for your David lives and He lives to claim these mercies on your behalf.
For your family and those silent needs which you have not uttered with lips but which God knows, we are assured that our Father knows what things we have need of before we ask Him. Though we do not know the number of His mercies, we do know the rule of them, that they come through the everlasting covenant ordered in all things and sure. If the mercies of one day would surpass our computation, how much more the mercies of a lifetime spent as pensioners upon the loving kindness of the Most High. We pray that He would grant you saving knowledge and sustaining grace, and that in your household prayer may be diligently and spiritually maintained, for they that pray do well and they that read and pray do better.
Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we thank Thee for Thy innumerable mercies which we cannot count but which we daily receive. We ask Thee in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son to give traveling mercies to this dear one, to keep watch over the way to the hospital and home again by Thy angelic charge. Lay Thy hand of mercy upon the son who is in the hospital, give skill to those who care for him, and give peace to those who love him. Hear the silent needs of this family, each one known to Thee, and answer according to Thy covenant mercies in Christ Jesus. Keep this household in Thy fear and love, and cause every heart therein to incline its ear and come unto Thee that the soul may live. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our only hope and salvation. Amen.
